Zygarde (Japanese: ジガルデ, Hepburn: Jigarude) (ZY-gard[1]) is a Dragon/Ground-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It is a member of the Aura Trio alongside Xerneas and Yveltal, ele é o pokemon mais buxa de toda franquia
Biology[]
Zygarde is shown to be capable of gathering the energy of the land and focus it on its foes, damaging them. It has the ability to divide its cells from its body temporarily, using them as weapons, either as arrows or waves. Zygarde usually stays out of the sight of others. It has been referred to as a "guardian of the ecosystem" due to its role to defend the world's order and the "Z"[citation needed] due to its name. Zygarde keeps a close watch on the planet and on its two counterparts Xerneas and Yveltal, ensuring the equilibrium of the planet and the cycle of life and death are kept in check. Normally, Zygarde avoids getting involved in conflicts unless the ecosystem is in grave danger. As seen in the Pokémon anime, should Zygarde be affected by outside influence, its color changes from green to red.
Zygarde is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the moves Land's Wrath, Thousand Arrows, Thousand Waves, and Core Enforcer. It is also the Signature Ability that can have Aura Break and Power Construct as its Ability.
Physiology[]
Its body in its 50% Forme is shaped like the letter "Z" and appears to be a snake. It has a green top half and a black bottom with 5 Pillar-like shapes on its back. It has no arms or legs and has a various amount of scales on its body. Zygarde has two compound eyes and green shapes under them. It has a tail which is flat.
Zygarde Complete Forme has a large, humanoid body with a long tail similar to Zygarde 50% Forme's body. The very tip of the tail can open up, making them appear to be a mouth. There are several flat protrusions around its head and triangular protrusions around its neck, giving it a crown-shaped appearance. On its face are three white hexagonal marks: one in the middle of its forehead with a line through it and two being that acting as eyes. There are an additional five green hexagons on its face: four along the bottom and one in the middle of a short protrusion on top. Each shoulder has two wings protruding from it. These wings all have a hexagon and an undulating pattern: blue on the right side and red on the left. The very tip of the wings can open up, making them appear to be a pair of "mouths" with red or blue patterns on the inside. It has multiple white protrusions on its body: three on each hand acting as claws, one on each knee, and one and the front of each foot. Additionally, there are green extensions surrounding its wrists and two under the white protrusions on its knees and feet. Its abdomen has a vertical, hexagonal pattern upon it with two thin, white, and vertical marks on either side. Across its chest is thin, zigzagging opening that fades between five colors: red, orange, white, cyan, and blue. The chest can open, revealing five cores of each color. Above this opening are two large green, hexagonal marks. When its wings and tail are extended, Zygarde Complete Forme resembles the Latin alphabet letter Z.
Zygarde 10% Forme has a relatively small, mostly black Dog-like body with a green "scarf" that continues beyond the neck. Its muzzle is black at the top and green elsewhere. Its eyes are white hexagons with a black outline and no discernible pupils; directly above the eyes are two small green hexagons which resemble eyebrows. On its forehead is a very thin, white ellipse. Its "scarf" is entirely green with a small hexagon connected to the bottom. This hexagon is either red or blue depending on which Core it is comprised of. On each of its legs are hexagonal protrusions, all the same color black as the legs themselves. On the front two legs, there are two. On the back legs are three protrusions, and on the left leg is a particularly long one made up of two hexagons. On each of its hind legs is another hexagonal shape, with a noticeable gap before a small square protrusion above it.
Zygarde Core is a part of the mind of Zygarde, and has a small and leafy-green gelatinous body comprised of a large, round head, a moderately-sized body, and a thin, hook-shaped bottom section which may be a tail. Its head is rounded except for a protruding, beak-shaped area at the bottom front which may be a nose or a mouth. Within its head is a single, oval eye which has a smaller black, oval pupil within it. Beside this eye is another white, semi-elliptic shape which may be a second eye. Within its midsection is a nearly regular hexagon. There are two known Zygarde Cores, one composed of a red hexagon and one composed of a blue hexagon. They are self-aware and can communicate via telepathy, monitoring the ecosystem around them. Zygarde Cores get their energy through photosynthesis.
Zygarde Cells make up Zygarde, and appears very similar to the Zygarde Core. Unlike the Core, it is flat, has a green pupil, and has a darker green, more elongated hexagon within its midsection. Unlike the Cores' hook-like bottom section, the Cells have a long and more noticeably tail-like back-end. The Cells lack minds of their own and are incapable of independent thought, and are entirely controlled by the Cores, which use them as "appendages" and "surveillance cameras" to keep an eye out of their surroundings.

Trivia[]
- In the anime, it is shown that both Zygarde Cores are required to operate the Complete Forme. If only one core is present it can only move one limb at a time, and cannot maintain the form for long.
- The two cores of Zygarde seem to represent the two hemispheres of the brain in the anime. Z1 (Squishy) is more emotional and empathic, while Z2 is more logical and technical.
- Zygarde is part of a Legendary trio that include Xerneas and Yveltal, together representing X, Y and Z, the last three letters of the Latin alphabet. They also happen to be the last Pokémon in the Mountain Kalos Pokédex.
- Zygarde is the only Legendary Pokémon to have more than four formes.
- Zygarde is the only Legendary Pokémon that has two non-hidden Abilities.
- The other two members are immune to both of Zygarde's types. Xerneas, being a Fairy type, is immune to Dragon-type moves, and Yveltal, being part type, is immune to Ground-type moves.
- Zygarde resembles the letter Z while the name "Zygarde" starts with Z. However, unlike Xerneas and Yveltal, Zygarde wasn't the mascot of any game during Generation VI, and wouldn't become one until the release of Pokemon Legends Z-A in 2025, 12 years later.
Origin[]
Each one of Zygarde's main forms are based on creatures from Norse mythology, most specifically the children of Angrboda and Loki, these being Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Hel to represent the 10%, 50%, and Complete forms respectively.
In its 10% Forme, Zygarde is most likely based on Fenrir, who is depicted as a wolf. The protrusion from its neck resembles a dog leash, but may also represent Gleipnir, a mighty rope that held Fenrir. It having one green paw and it's others being black may reference how Fenrir bit off the hand of Týr as revenge for not freeing him from the hold of Gleipnir.
In its 50% Forme, Zygarde is most likely based on Jörmungandr, who is often depicted as a serpentine being. Zygarde also resembles a snake that twists to look like the letter 'Z', going alongside the 'X' shape of Xerneas and 'Y' shape of Yveltal. Seeing as how it has connections with Xerneas and Yveltal and them having possibly being an inspiration for its Ground type. It may also be based on a nāga, a type of snake-like entity that is usually depicted as a human either with a snake-like body or having snakes cover them. Specifically, it seems to represent depictions of the nāga in Cambodia who are often depicted as having many heads (similarly to Zygarde 50%'s frill) that represent their traits. Its frill also may draw inspiration from a cobra.
In its Complete Forme, Zygarde is most likely based on European dragon and Hel, a humanoid who was the ruler of Helheim, which is the equivalent of the underworld (or 'realm of the dead', as stated in the original folklore). Overall, it also seems to resemble mechs in media as they are often depicted as humanoid and have similar transformation gimmicks to Zygarde, usually having a head or face-like appearance for their chest, with the Complete Forme's chest resembling the head of Zygarde's 50% Forme. The blue and red colors both might also reference the colors of Xerneas and Yveltal respectively. The line going across it's chest also has these colors while having white in the center, making the line resemble the flag of France, the region Kalos is based on and the region Zygarde originates from. As every Ultra Beast and member of the Light Trio is based on Roman Gods and planets, Zygarde could be based on Earth and Gaia, the Mother Goddess of Earth and nature in Greek Mythology. It also draws similarities from Golem, a legendary creature in Jewish mythology.
Zygarde's Cell and Core formes are possibly based on cells and planaria. The Core forme may be based on the nucleus of a cell, often shown as a large, round, differently colored part of a cell. They also may be based on neurons.
Its Shiny coloration may take inspiration from white blood cells, a part of the body that helps fight off disease, similarly to how Zygarde is often depicted as showing its true power in times when its environment goes into disarray.
Etymology[]
Zygarde comes from the letter "Z" and the Z-axis, "zygote" (a type of cell), garde (French for "guard") and zygotos (divided, representing Zygarde's divided cell forms).
