The Z-Ring is an all new item introduced in Generation VII. Alongside a Z-Crystal, it can trigger a Z-Move.

Appearance
The Z-Ring is technically a white Mega Ring but instead of holding a Key Stone, it holds a Z-Crystal.
History
In the game the Z-Ring is first seen in its raw form as a Sparkling Stone. Then, given to the player character by Hala when he's done refining it after the player character has defeated Hau.
Anime
Kiawe received his Z-Ring prior to the series when he passed his Grand Trail on Akala Island as it once belonged to his Grandfather and still has it.
Ash received his Z-Ring from Tapu Koko and had it for a while before it was changed to a Z-Power Ring.
Hala the Island Kahuna of Melemele Island had his Z-Ring prior to the series.
Gladion obtained his Z-Ring prior to the series but had since changed into a Z-Power Ring.
Oluolu has a Z-Ring that he obtained prior to the series and usually uses it to perform a signature Z-Move.
Olivia the Island Kahuna of Akala Island had her Z-Ring prior to the series.
Lana found her Z-Ring as a sparking stone as Oliva made it into a Z-Ring for her and usually has it with her.
Ida had her Z-Ring prior to the series and usually use it with her partner Pokémon.
Professor Kukui obtained a Z-Ring prior to the series and usually used it when he was his elder ego the Masked Royal. After been exposed, Professor Kukui used it as himself.
Ilima usually use his Z-Ring to perform a signature Z-Move with his partner Pokémon.
Nanu the Island Kahuna of Ula'ula Island had his Z-Ring prior to the series.
Pikala usually use her Z-Ring to perform a signature Z-Move with her partner Pokémon.
Dia has a Z-Ring that he would usually use whenever he needed to.
Hapu the Island Kahuna of Poni Island obtained her Z-Ring from her Grandfather.
Lillie obtained her Z-Ring from her long lost father room as she is hanging on to it until he was found as it belong to him.
Sophocles received his Z-Ring from Hapu and usually has it with him.
Mallow obtained her Z-Ring from Oranguru but it was worn out until Oliva repaired it for her and usually keeps it with her.
Hau received his Z-Ring when he won his Grand Trail against Hala.
