This is a transcript of the Pokémon the Series: XYZ episode: "The Legend of X, Y, and Z!".
- [The scene is set in the past.]
- Narrator
A long, long time ago, a time recalled the Kalos legend...
- [On the cliff, Aila is alongside Jan, who is with a Talonflame and a Gogoat, holding a bow.]
- Aila
No, wait... Jan, please, don't go!
- Jan
Aila, I promise you, I will defeat Yveltal. Have faith, and wait for me. Talonflame, go!
- [Talonflame flies away. Jan redirects Gogoat away from the cliff.]
- Jan
Please.
- [Jan takes off.]
- Aila
Jan, no!
- Narrator
And so, a young man embarked on a journey, leaving his beloved behind. His Target: The Destruction Pokémon Yveltal.
- Yveltal
(Roars)
- [The opening theme and title card plays.]
- [In the present, Sycamore walks along the forest. He checks his tablet.]
- Professor Sycamore
Hmm.
- [He taps it. A photo of Aila's statue appears on his screen.]
- Professor Sycamore
The Maiden Statue.
- [Alexa looks around the ruins, she then presses on her tablet. Sycamore arrives.]
- Helioptile
Heli?
- Professor Sycamore
Hey! Alexa!
- [She turns around.]
- Alexa
Hmm? Hi, Professor Sycamore! (They handshake each other) Are you here to investigate the ruins, too?
- Professor Sycamore
Well, it is the biggest find of the century. The ruins that confirm the truth of a Kalos legend. Who knew they would be found at such a high altitude?
- Alexa
Right! It's amazing they were never discovered until now.
- Professor Sycamore
So, where is the Maiden Statue?
- Alexa
Come. I'll show you.
- [The two walk under a lit tunnel while reading their tablets.]
- Alexa
You see, it was accidentally discovered on a satellite image. A temple-like structure, overgrown by nature. Because the location is fairly treacherous, it took quite some time to get a research team up here.
- Professor Sycamore
Why did you accompany the research team, Alexa?
- Alexa
Because of this. Through the discovery of various artifacts, we knew there was an ancient nation that flourished here, which ultimately became the foundation of civilization in Kalos.
- Helioptile
Heli!
- Alexa
I wanted to report on the lives of the people and Pokemon living at that time.
- [They reach the end of the tunnel.]
- Professor Sycamore
Whoa!
- [At the end of the tunnel is the Maiden Statue, surrounded by stones with the letters X, Y and Z carved into them. The camera pans up to the statue of Aila.]
- Professor Sycamore
That's it. The statue of Aila, the stone-eyed maiden, as described in Kalos legend.
- Alexa
It's as though someone took a moment of her life and carved it into stone.
- Professor Sycamore
Exactly as the legend describes.
- [Sycamore presses a button. Three screens project in-front of them with the letters X, Y and Z, each with information.]
- Alexa
Ancient historical records?
- Professor Sycamore
That's right. And we've come to know this particular segment as the chapter of the stone-eyed maiden. her hair, her necklace... Yes, everything written here within these records perfectly matches the statue.
- Alexa
(Gasps)
- Professor Sycamore
For the longest time, people have debated whether what's written here actually took place, or if it was simply fabricated by someone during ancient times. Now we have the statue, so we may finally get the answer.
- Alexa
Are you saying this statue wasn't a figment of someone's imagination? Don't you think that it's entirely possible that someone created it based on these records?
- Professor Sycamore
That can't be ruled out. However... (Looks at the statue in detail) ..her expression... I don't think that this is any ordinary statue. I believe the stone-eyed maiden actually existed. And the one who turned her into stone is none other then Yveltal, the Destruction Pokemon.
- [Sycamore presses the "Y" on his tablet.]
- Alexa
Yveltal?
- Professor Sycamore
Based on all the research conducted up until now, it is believed that this symbol resembling a Y is a reference to Yveltal. In all the drawings we have of it, those drawings and the symbol look very much the same to me. The story begins when two people from different social classes - a young poor man named Jam, and Aila, the village chief's daughter - meet and fall in love. At the time, the city's oracle, Olympica, made a prediction.
- Olympica
Yes.
- [Olympica is operating the crystal ball in-front of a group of people and Pokemon.]
- Olympica
I see it. Yveltal will descend upon this land. Absorbing the life force of all living things, Yveltal's life will come to an end, and then it will turn into a cocoon once more. It is, however, impossible for any of us to escape this fate.
- Professor Sycamore
When Aila's father learned of this prophecy, he ordered Jan to defeat Yveltal in order to protect the city. He promised his daughter's hand in marriage if Jan successfully defeated Yveltal.
- [In the sunset, Jan and Aila are on the cliff.]
- Aila
You don't have to listen to my father and his promise. Yveltal is extremely dangerous, you can't defeat it! No-one can defeat it. Don't even try! Jan, please, don't go, I'm begging you!
- Jan
Aila, I promise you, I will defeat Yveltal. Have faith, and wait for me.
- [Jan departs with his two Pokemon. He suddenly hears Yveltal's roar.]
- Jan
Huh?
- [Yveltal appears in-front of Aila, causing her to scream.]
- Jan
It's Yveltal!
- [Jan and Gogoat u-turn and head back.]
- Jan
Aila!
- Aila
Jan, stay away!
- [Jan fires arrows at the target, to no effect.]
- Jan
(Groans) Talonflame!
- [Talonflame cloaks itself in fire and goes for Yveltal, but it hits back with Oblivion Wing, singing the bird and knocking it down. It attacks the ruins.]
- Jan
Why you...
- [Jan prepares another arrow as Yveltal roars again. Aila runs to try and save him.]
- Aila
(Dreading) Jan!
- [Aila runs into Oblivion Wing aimed at Jam. The frame freezes. Soon, Aila screams and is turned to stone. Jan falls down the cliff. Yveltal screeches as it flies into the sunset. Cut to Jan, laid on the ground, struggling. Cut to the present.]
- Alexa
What happened to Yveltal after that?
- Professor Sycamore
Like the prediction said,- it changed its shape into a cocoon. It absorbed all life forces around it, and the land became barren, so it could enter its long slumber.
- [-Yveltal turns into a cocoon, glowing a red light with a dark void-like aura. A wave of purple energy extends across the forests, being sucked in to the cocoon. The cocoon submerges underwater. In the next scene, the world is gray and misty. Jan climbs up onto the cliff, looking at Gogoat, and the Aila statue, gasping.]
- Alexa
Aila leaped between Yveltal and Jan, then?
- [Jan feels Aila's statue.]
- Jan
(Tearfully) Aila... (Sobs; in anguish) Nooo!
- [Cut to present.]
- Alexa
Do we know where Yveltal is now?
- Professor Sycamore
One theory states it awakens every thousand years, but it's uncertain if Yveltal's now a cocoon, or awake and active.
- [Back to the past, Jan is down to his knees. Olympica appears with her two Meowstic.]
- Olympica
The precious few people and Pokemon who survived have left this land. I'm leaving this land, too.
- Jan
How could this have taken place?
- Olympica
There's only one chance of rescuing the girl.
- [Jan reacts in hope.]
- Olympica
Perhaps Xerneas is able to bring her back.
- Jan
Xerneas?
- Olympica
Yveltal's equal. The Life Pokemon. When Xerneas transforms into a large tree, it shares its power with the land. And that sharing can bring even the most barren of lands back to life.
- Jan
So, do you know where Xerneas is?
- Olympica
Find a forest that glimmers like a rainbow. Wherever Xerneas is, that forest flourishes.
- [Cut to present. Sycamore presses X on his tablet.]
- Alexa
So, the symbol X... It's a reference to Xerneas, isn't it?
- Professor Sycamore
Yes, that's right.- Jan visited many lush forests. But because Xerneas is constantly on the move, sadly, Jan wasn't ever able to find it. And time passed mercilessly...
- [-Back to the past, sunshine beats down on the forest as Jan travels with his Gogoat. At night-time, the Gogoat trots, exhausted, and comes to a halt. Jan pulls Gogoat's horns in encouragement.]
- Jan
What?
- Gogoat
(Weakly) Gogoat...
- [Jan pats Gogoat.]
- Jan
We can't stop. We need to find where Xerneas is.
- [Gogoat carries on. A mist appears around the background, causing Jan to cover his mouth with his gown. Up ahead is a troubled Scatterbug.]
- Scatterbug
Sca-aa...
- Jan
Huh?
- [Jan notices and hops off his Gogoat. He picks the Pokemon up.]
- Scatterbug
(Weakly) Sca, Sca, Sca, Sca, Sca...
- Jan
He notices all the dead trees in-front of him.
- Jan
The forest, it's lifeless. (Sighs) Is it Yveltal? (A man appears) Oh!
- Old Man
It's terrible, isn't it?
- Jan
Can you tell me what happened?
- Old Man
His people came, and then he took Xerneas away!
- Jan
Xerneas?
- [The segment "Who's that Pokemon?" plays.]
- [Cut to present...]
- Professor Sycamore
The one who took Xerneas away turned out to be the ruler of a small kingdom. His goal? He tried to monopolize the Life Pokemon's power for his own selfish purposes.
- Alexa
So because Xerneas was taken away, the forest turned barren and brown?
- Professor Sycamore
Yes, and all due to one man's selfish actions.
- [Jan and Gogoat ride towards the temple. Veofum is talking to a dead tree who he assumes is Xerneas.]
- Veofum
What is going on?! I brought Xerneas to my garden, yet nothing is flourishing! so, does that mean bestowing eternal life is nothing more than a worthless illusion, Xerneas?
- [The tree doesn't move.]
- Veofum
Set it on fire.
- Deputy
Are you sure of that?
- Veofum
Do it! It is of no worth to me. And if it brings me no benefit... Burn it!
- Deputy
Let's go!
- [The soldiers set the tree on fire. Jan and Gogoat, run past the soldiers in order to save the tree.]
- Jan
Stop iiit!
- Veofum
Huh?
- [Jan gets blocked by spears, and is knocked to the ground, with the soldiers grounding him.]
- Deputy
(To Jan) You have no right to be here.
- Jan
(Struggling while being held be soldiers) Put out that fire.
- Veofum
Silence!
- Jan
No, release Xerneas and extinguish the fire at once!
- Veofum
Xerneas belongs to me. I will do whatever I want with it.
- Jan
Don't you feel anything seeing it burning? Making Xerneas suffer will bring misfortune and pain.
- Veofum
Such utter nonsense. (To the soldiers) Get rid of this man at once!
- Deputy
Sir.
- [Thunder is heard, with a blue light being emitted.]
- Deputy
Huh?
- [A massive lightning bolt is ejected from the sky and disappears. Zygarde cells appear from the temple wall, causing the soldiers to get distracted.]
- Veofum
Stop! There's nothing to worry about! You must remain calm!
- [The cells emit a green glow and are sucked in to a massive green cell which grows bigger. Veofum and the Deputy gasp.]
- Veofum
What in the world is that thing?!
- [Back to the present, Sycamore presses "Z" on his tablet; the letter lights up on the projector.]
- Alexa
So, at that moment, Zygarde appeared?
- Professor Sycamore
Yes. This symbol resembling a Z is a reference to Zygarde.
- [Back in the past, Zygarde roars. The soldiers evacuate while Jan, who has his arms chained up behind his back, also runs away. Zygarde unleashes a powerful shockwave.]
- Professor Sycamore
Zygarde, the Order Pokemon. Zygarde watches over Kalos' ecological system and unleashes its fury on those who try to destroy that system.
- [The temple's ground breaks, causing soldiers to scream. The giant tree resembling Xerneas regrows through the ground. The temple's tower cracks and crumbles down, crashing to the ground with a thud. Zygarde roars again. Back to the present...]
- Alexa
It's like the human immune system. How it tries to heal irregularities in the body and bring it back into balance.
- Professor Sycamore
You're right. Zygarde is also known throughout the land as the watcher of Kalos. It eradicates harmful situations.
- [Cut to the past. The green Zygarde cells are extracted from the main Pokemon. Jan is down on the ground. Gogoat checks on him.]
- Gogoat
Goat...
- [Jan stirs, and looks at the tree, which glows blue and transforms into Xerneas.]
- Jan
Xerneas!
- [Jan gets up.]
- Jan
I'm begging you to assist me. Come to my aid with your great power!
- [Xerneas turns around and runs away.]
- Jan
W-Wait, (Calls) Xerneas!
- [Jan looks at the statue or Aila again. He dreams of a bright world, with living Pokemon enjoying the surroundings. The dream ends. He hugs the statue.]
- Professor Sycamore
At that moment, Jan came to a realization. He know that the land destroyed by Yveltal would someday become even more lush, and alive.
- [In the snow, Jan carries Aila's statue through the tunnel towards a area of land.]
- Professor Sycamore
So he made the decision to protect the land, alongside Aila.
- [He pins the statue down. He then scatters seeds across the land; and carves the letter Y into stone, along with some messages.]
- Professor Sycamore
It's said Jan recorded everything that he saw and experienced.
- Alexa
And that's what has been passed down to us.
- Professor Sycamore
After a very long time, the land became plagued by a devastating drought. And once again, it became savagely barren and devoid of life.
- [In the day-time, Jan strokes Gogoat.]
- Gogoat
Goat...
- Jan
Dear Gogoat... (Sees something above) Huh?
- [A blue light emits. Xerneas appears looking down at him.]
- Jan
(Shocked) Oh. Xerneas, you have come!
- [Xerneas radiates light pulses. The pulses create life in the ground, growing trees full of leaves. Jan feels the ground, which sprouts.]
- Jan
Oh!
- [Tears falls down Jan's eyes. His area of land now has grass and water around it, with Aila's statue remaining as is. Jan looks at the Aila statue.]
- Jan
Aila...
- [Xerneas, seeing their work being done, trots off. Back to the present...]
- Professor Sycamore
Unfortunately, according to legend, Aila never returned to her original state. I believe both Xerneas and Yveltal are incarnations of nature that take care of the land. That is their task and their purpose. And when the natural order is undone, Zygarde appears in order to balance it. These three powerful Pokemon preside over the never-ending cycle of life. And perhaps, there is a distinct possibility that Zygarde Cells could be watching over us right now.
- Alexa
(Looks around in panic) Argh?!
- Professor Sycamore
Zygarde Cells are not normally seen. However, they are everywhere in the Kalos region.
- [Zygarde Cells appear and disappear in various parts of the land.]
- Professor Sycamore
That was clearly proven during the incident involving Team Flare.
- [Sycamore turns the screen off.]
- Alexa
Do you have any idea what happened to Jan after that?
- Professor Sycamore
Honestly, no. The legend doesn't mention anything having to do with Jan's fate.
- Alexa
(Looking at the Aila statue) That means only she knows.
- Professor Sycamore
There is another possibility. Perhaps Zygarde was watching, too. Can you please show me the rest of the ruins?
- Alexa
Yeah, sure! I'll introduce you to the research team.
- Professor Sycamore
Thanks very much.
- [The team head back.]
- Professor Sycamore
I'm so glad I came here.
- [Back to the past, a very old Jan is lying on the mound of the Maiden Statue with Gogoat. A girl representing Bonnie, with her Dedenne, walks forward and meets him.]
- Girl
Huh?
- [Jan opens his eyes.]
- Girl
(Shocked) Oh, dear me!
- Jan
Can I help you?
- [The girl blinks a few times.]
- Girl
Hello! Do you always take a nap right here, sir?
- Jan
Young lady, I was just having a conversation with this woman.
- Girl
A conversation?
- Jan
Yes. I was telling her that thanks to a Pokemon named Xerneas, the season when flowers bloom is upon us once again.
- Girl
You mean the Legendary Pokemon?
- Jan
A long, long time ago, this old man actually met Xerneas.
- Dedenne
Denne?!
- Girl
(Laughs) You're kidding, right?
- Jan
Oh, no, I speak the truth. I met Yveltal, too, and I also met a third. A green-colored Pokemon-, shaped something like this.
- [-He draws a Z with his finger on Gogoat's back.]
- Girl
Wow, amazing!
- Jan
The forest stays lush and beautiful, thanks to the caring and watchful eyes of all three of them.
- Girl
Won't you come back to my house and tell me more stories?
- [Jan is stroking his Gogoat.]
- Jan
I don't want to leave this place.
- Girl
Do you want to stay because of her?
- Jan
Yes. And here, I will always remain.
- [Gogoat closes its eyes.]
- Jan
Now, I must return to my nap. Thank you for the conversation, young lady. It was most enjoyable.
- [Jan closes his eyes.]
- Narrator
Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde - those three will continue to watch over Kalos and its history, along with the statue of the stone-eyed maiden.
- [A small group of Zygarde Cells roam around the stone with the "Z" letter. The caption "TO BE CONTINUED..." appears at the bottom of the screen. The credits appear.]
