This is a transcript of the Pokémon the Series: XYZ episode: "Kalos League Passion with a Certain Flare!".

Narrator

The fierce Kalos League semi-final battle in Lumiose City between Ash and Sawyer has ended in victory for our hero. Next up is the final match where Ash will face Alain. Now, on the eve of their bout, one can only imagine what these two formidable trainers have on their minds.

[Cut to the Pokémon Center, where Ash's Pokémon have been healed by Nurse Joy.]

Nurse Joy

Your Pokémon have recovered, and they're feeling just fine.

Ash Ketchum

Thanks, Nurse Joy.

[Wigglytuff returns Ash's Pikachu.]

Ash's Pikachu

(Happy) Pika, Pi!

Ash Ketchum

Looking good, buddy!

Ash's Pikachu

(Happy) Pika!

Nurse Joy

Good luck. (Double strong arm pose) Be great in the finals.

Ash Ketchum

(Strong arm pose) I'll do my best, and thanks!

Meyer

(Off-screen) Hey!

Ash Ketchum

Huh?

Meyer

Hi, there, Ash.

Clembot

Hi, Ash.

Ash Ketchum

Wow, it's Meyer. Clembot too.

Ash's Pikachu

(Welcoming) Pika!

[Outside in the park, Bonnie, Serena, Clement and Sawyer (with Sceptile) are sat down, the former pointing to something in the distance, and the latter taking notes on his notebook.]

Sawyer

Yeah, I see. I'll note this experience.

Ash Ketchum

(Off-screen) Hey, guys!

Bonnie and Clemont

Huh?!

[Bonnie and Clemont turn around. Meyer, Clembot, Ash and Pikachu arrive. Ash waves.]

Bonnie

(Happy) Daddy!

Clemont

Dad, what are you doing here?

[Meyer puts down a bag of boxes containing tasty food.]

Meyer

I thought I'd bring you some goodies. (Opening the boxes and offering the Lumiose Galettes) Just a little snack before the final.

[Everyone else exclaims in delight.]

Sawyer

Looks so good.

Clemont

Look at all those Lumiose galettes.

Serena

I've heard they're so popular, they're almost impossible to get.

Bonnie

(Blushing) Daddy, you're the best!

Meyer

(Laughs) Nah, it wasn't so hard.

[Flashback to a moment with Clembot in the line with customers outside a shop with a Lumiose Galette banner. Clembot is waiting in the queue wearing a pink maid's uniform and a brown handbag similar in size as the other customers and a green purse.]

Clembot

Because I waited in line to get them.

[The flashback ends. Meyer is still grinning.]

Clembot

A two-hour wait is no big deal.

Serena

It couldn't have been that easy.

Meyer

No trouble. We did it because of all of you. It was a piece of cake.

Clembot

Excuse me, but that's my line.

Meyer

(Laughs) Okay, eat up! (Laughs)

Bonnie

Yippee!

Ash Ketchum

Hey gang. Come on out.

[Ash throws his Pokéballs and deploys his Pokémon.]

Serena

[Serena deploys her Pokémon.]

[Clemont deploys his Pokémon. Chespin takes a closer look at the food in excitement.]

[Murmuring and Munching sounds are heard as everyone eats.]

Ash Ketchum

(Approves) Goodra!

(Approves) Bleh!

[Cut to Clemont and his Pokémon. Chespin has his cheeks stuffed while holding two Galettes.]

Braixen

(Approves) Braixen!

Serena

Glad you like them.

Sawyer

So good! What a sweet way to stimulate my brain.

Serena

I see you have quite a sweet tooth.

Sawyer

Brain too.

Serena

(Giggles)

Meyer

Eat hearty! I'm counting on you to show us a great battle tomorrow.

[Clembot nods.]

Ash's Pikachu

(War-cry) Pika!

Ash's other Pokémon

(War-cry)

Sawyer

Hey, Ash. (Strong arm pose) Good luck in the finals. I'll be cheering for you.

Ash Ketchum

Great. Thanks, Sawyer.

[Chespin and Pancham put their paw on the last Galette.]

Chespin

Ches!

[They look at each other, angrily while holding their paw on the last Galette.]

Pancham

Pancham, Pan!

Chespin

Chespin, Pin-ches!

[They scream at each other. They tussle. Bunnelby comes in and tries to restore order.]

Bunnelby

Bunnelby...

[Pancham and Chespin fall over as the Galette is thrown out of their grasp and rolls down the hill. Pancham pushes Chespin aside and runs to get the Galette. Chespin goes after it too.]

[The opening theme and title card plays.]

[The Galette rolls along the road in Lumiose City. Pancham and Chespin continue to go after it.]

Chespin

Ches! Ches! Chespin!

[They weave past a group of people and Pokémon. Pancham squeezes past two people's legs, and suddenly gets himself lost, looking around.]

Pancham

Pancham. Pancham. (Calling) Pancham!

[The Galette falls flat in the middle of the road. Chespin sees it and picks it up, delighted.]

Chespin

Ches, Ches, pin! Ches! Ches!

[As soon as he's about to take a bite, A Murkrow steals the Galette.]

Chespin

Pin! Chespin.

Murkrow

Murkrooow!

Chespin

(Anguished, looking at Murkrow) Ches! Pin, Ches, Ches!

[Mairin is browsing all the keychains, including a Breloom, a Cresselia, a Jirachi and a Wigglytuff in a nurse outfit.]

Mairin

Which one do I want?

Merchant

They say with one of these, all your wishes will come true.

Mairin

Then I think I'll get one for Chespie.

[She picks up the Jirachi keychain and shows it to the shopkeeper.]

Merchant

Yes, miss.

[Meanwhile, Sawyer, Sceptile and Meyer wave goodbye to Ash and his friends.]

Ash Ketchum

Thank you.

Sawyer

See you later.

[Ash's friends turn around. Serena reacts as she notices something wrong.]

Serena

Hold on!- Pancham?

[-Cut to the Present Pokémon. Pancham and Chespin are missing from the group. Every Pokémon except Pikachu, Dedenne and Bunnelby look down, concerned.]

Bonnie

Chespin's missing too.

[Pikachu and Dedenne start looking around.]

Ash's Pikachu

Pika?!

Dedenne

Denenene?

Bunnelby

(Shrugs) Bunnelby.

[An Upset Chespin bumps into Mairin's legs.]

Chespin

Ches!

Mairin

Huh? Are you alone? Where's your trainer?

[Chespin stands up.]

Chespin

Ches? Chespin? (Realizes and calls aloud, upset) Chespin!

Mairin

Don't cry. You lost?

Chespin

(Upset) Chespin, Ches.

Mairin

(Lowers) Wait. Here, I'll help you find your trainer.

[Chespin loses tears and turns around.]

Chespin

Pin?

Mairin

Hi there. Mairin's my name. (Bubbly-eyed) My partner is a Chespin just like you are. I call it Chespie.

Chespin

(Confused) Ches?

[Ash and friends pant in exhaustion as they run around Lumiose City to find Clemont's partner Pokémon.]

Ash's Pikachu

(Calling) Pika, Pika?!

Dedenne

(Calling) Ne-ne-ne-ne?!

[Serena sees her Pokémon up ahead.]

Serena

Ah! It's Pancham!

[Pancham runs and meets up with his trainer. They share a hug.]

Pancham

(Happy) Panchaaam!

Serena

Where's Chespin?

Pancham

Pancham, Pan. Pancham, Pancham.

Clemont

So, you got separated?

Ash Ketchum

Whoa, Oh, man. Let's go look for it.

Ash's Pikachu

(Miserably) Pika, Pika.

Dedenne

(Miserably) Ne-ne.

[Tierno is eating a Magikarp snack along with Shauna and Trevor. In the foreground, Mairin is walking the other way carrying Clemont's Chespin.]

Chespin

(Happy) Chespin.

[Trevor notices.]

Trevor

Hey, that's Clemont's Chespin, right?

[Mairin stops. Chespin sees Clemont's friends and waves.]

Chespin

(Happy) Chespin, Ches!

Trevor

I knew it!

[Cut to Ash, Serena and Bonnie, calling next to the fountain.]

Bonnie

Hey, Chespin!

Ash Ketchum

Where did you go?!

Tierno

There they are.

[Shauna, Trevor and Tierno, with Mairin holding Clemont's Chespin, notice Ash and his friends.]

Shauna

You see? Over there.

Chespin

Chespin! Pin!

[Chespin delightfully wriggles out of Mairin's hands and runs over to Clemont. They hug each other.]

Clemont

(Chuckles) Chespin! What a relief. I'm glad you're alright.

Chespin

Chespin! Pin!

[Cut to Serena, with Pancham still annoyed.]

Serena

Pancham, you're glad too, right?

Pancham

(Protesting to Chespin) Pancham, Pan!

Chespin

(Laughing it off) Chespin, Ches!

[Pancham groans. The rest are seen laughing. Mairin flashes back to her moments with her own Chespin.]

Ash Ketchum

Thanks, Tierno, Trevor, Shauna. You helped us find Chespin.

Tierno

No, it really wasn't us.

Trevor

Yeah, you should thank Mairin.

Shauna and Tierno

Huh?

[Tears fall down Mairin's eyes. Everyone else murmurs.]

Ash Ketchum

What's wrong?

Mairin

Huh? (Rubs her tears) Uh, sorry about that. (Smiles) I'm fine, really. I didn't mean to worry you.

[Ash's friends look at each other, concerned.]

Ash and friends

Huh?

[The group of seven share a double bench over at the Pokémon Center.]

Mairin

The thing is, I've got a partner. It's a Chespin, too. So, your Chespin reminded me of my Chespie. That's all.

Serena

You call it Chespie?

Mairin

Mm-hm. Chespie is the best at everything!

[Pikachu and Dedenne smile.]

Bonnie

Maybe not everything. Our Chespin's the best at eating yummy Poké Puffs.

Chespin

(Proud) Pin! Ches! (Sticks tongue out)

Mairin

That's awesome!

Serena

Huh? So it reminded you. Where's Chespie now?

[Mairin looks at herself.]

Mairin

You see...

[Mairin flashes back to Chespin laying on a bed a Lysandre Labs.]

Mairin

..Chespie has been asleep for quite a while.

[The flashback ends.]

Mairin

It won't wake up.

Serena

Oh, no, Mairin. I'm so sorry.

Mairin

Don't be. It'll be fine. Right now, Chespie's being treated at Lysandre Labs. They're awesome!

Serena

Oh, good.

[The people on the other bench look at each other, concerned.]

Pancham

Pancham, Pan.

Professor Sycamore

(Off-screen) Ash, hello!

Everyone

Huh?

Professor Sycamore

Planning for tomorrow?

Ash Ketchum

Professor Sycamore!

Professor Sycamore

(Looks at Mairin) What's this? Hi, Mairin!

Mairin

(Happy) Professor!

Professor Sycamore

Good to see you. Are you here to cheer for Alain?

Mairin

Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

Ash Ketchum

Wait. You're Alain's friend?

[Mairin giggles. At the training center...]

Alain

Charizard, Flamethrower!

[Charizard executes the move. Malva arrives.]

Malva

Congratulations on making it to the finals. I guess winning will be easy. Easy for you.

Alain

Don't bother me now. I'm fine-tuning.

Malva

I'm sure. I never thought you'd enter the Kalos League. Knowing that you want to become the strongest trainer of all, I guess that wouldn't make sense.

Alain

Being the strongest trainer has nothing to do with this. I want to battle him. That's all.

Malva

Are you talking about Ash? You're giving him all this attention. The boy should be flattered.

Alain

What do you mean? Just tell me. Is that the real you talking?

Malva

Hmm. I hear the Mega Evolution energy gathering is nearly complete. So after you save Chespin, then what do you do?

[Alain flashes back to various moments of himself and Mairin. The flashbacks end.]

Alain

None of your business.

Malva

Hmm. Yes, you're right.

[Malva leaves. Cut to Team Rocket.]

Jessie

So tired. Please tell me we're done for today.

James

I'm starving.

Wobbuffet

(Muffled) W-W-W-Wobbuffet!

Meowth

Hey, stifle it!

Malva

Here we go! Let's edit!

[(Team Rocket exclaim, exhausted.)]

Meowth

I thought we were done!

Malva

(Angrily) Then how are we going to get it on air in time? (Parenting) Come on, get back to work.

Team Rocket

Yes, ma'am.

[Team Rocket set off slowly.]

Jessie

Hmm! Wait till you see what tomorrow brings. We'll give you some big news.

James

The Pokémon who have made it to the finals are quite a country of especially strong specimens.

Meowth

We'll catch them all and then we can...

Wobbuffet

Wobbuffet!

Meowth

Turn it down! (To Malva, snickers)

[Cut to Ash's group.]

Professor Sycamore

(To Mairin) Have you seen Alain already?

Mairin

Not yet. I'll see him after the finals are over. I know he's got to concentrate. Don't want to bother him. (Smiles) There'll be plenty of time to bother him later!

Ash Ketchum

Got it.

Ash's Pikachu

Pika.

Clemont

By the way, Professor, why are you here?

Professor Sycamore

Well, I've been doing quite a bit of research, (Raises his tablet) and I found out about Greninja's powers.

[The segment "Who's that Pokémon?" plays.]

[In an IT room, Sawyer, with Sceptile is watching another Pokémon battle on the computer.]

Breloom

(On-screen) Breloom!

Sawyer

So that's a Drain Punch.

[On-screen, Scrafty is hit by Breloom's move.]

Sawyer

It's a powerful move that drains an opponent of its energy.

[Breloom glows green, healing health.]

Sawyer

Now, if they decide to use Leech Seed, they could possibly turn the battle around in their favor.

Sceptile

Sceptile!

Sawyer

It's so amazing. There are so many battle tactics I don't know yet. Yeah, it sure is a big world out there.

[Cut to his notepad.]

Sawyer

Pokémon battles are deep, all right.

[He holds his pen and starts twitching.]

Sawyer

Being able to battle Ash at the Kalos League, I've gained more experience here than I could have imagined. And it was so much fun too. My greatest battle yet. But that's it. My Kalos League challenge is over now.

[Tears fall on his notebook.]

Sawyer

I told Ash that I'd cheer him on with a smile on my face. (Sniffles, using the pen to hold his nose) And I will. But it hurts. It really hurts.

Sceptile

(Consoling him) Tile, Sceptile!

Sawyer

I wish I could have battled more. Just a little bit more.

Sceptile

(Understanding) Tile!

Sawyer

Oh. (Rubs tears off his eyes and stands up) I know what to do! I'll get more experience. This is no time for crying.

Sceptile

Sceptile!

[Meanwhile, Lysandre and a Team Flare admin are in the VIP room.]

Stadium Manager

What do you think, Lysandre? We'll be happy to provide this area for you to view the final match tomorrow.

Lysandre

I appreciate you arranging this so quickly. Thanks very much.

Stadium Manager

Not at all. It's an honor to have such a well-known resident of Kalos come watch our event. (Bows) We all thank you.

[The Admin's communicator beeps.]

Stadium Manager

Well then, I must be getting along. If you need anything, please call.

[The communicator reveals a hologram of Xerosic.]

Xerosic

Lysandre.

[Two trucks park outside the stadium. The Team flare grunts open the back doors to each of them. Cut to Sycamore, who has a hologram of Lysandre on his communicator.]

Xerosic

We've taken control of central Lumiose. The gym is closed for the duration of the League, so it will be easy.

Lysandre

Tell me when preparations are completed.

Xerosic

I will, at once.

[The admin hangs up. Lysandre sees someone in the room with him.]

Lysandre

What's Mairin doing now?

Admin

She made contact with the trainer who will be battling in the finals.

Lysandre

Oh. That's Greninja's trainer. Good.

[Cut to Ash.]

Professor Sycamore

I was looking at this old manuscript. I found something. Look at this.

[Sycamore puts the tablet on the desk to show Ash and friends.]

Professor Sycamore

They call it the "Bond Phenomenon".

Ash Ketchum

"Bond Phenomenon"?

Ash's Pikachu

(Curious) Pika.

[Everyone else looks at the tablet.]

Professor Sycamore

Here's what it says. "It's a rare phenomenon that happens between trainer and Pokémon when the bond of trust between them grows. In addition, it appears the Pokémon's latent skills matter too." So it's not something that happens with every Pokémon.

Ash Ketchum

And that means Greninja's special, huh?

Professor Sycamore

I remember saying how Greninja chose you right from the beginning. At the same time, Greninja may have been aware of its many latent skills all along. It may have known that you, Ash, would be the one who can draw out its true powers. Perhaps your encounter was truly meant to be.

Ash Ketchum

Yeah.

[Cut to Team Flare. Xerosic is giving orders to a group of grunts.]

Xerosic

Hurry with the set-up!

Grunts

Sir!

[The grunts take off their protective kit, revealing their uniforms and get to work. One admin plugs in a socket, another types on the keyboard, two grunts carry a chamber and open the doors. Inside the chamber is a cylinder with Z-2 inside of it. Another chamber opens, revealing a group of cells trapped inside. Outside at night, Bonnie, Clemont's Chespin, Mairin, Serena and Pancham are having a stroll. Z-1 pops out of Bonnie's bag and whimpers, seeing the red light at the top of the Prism Tower.]

Mairin

Thanks. I'll be fine from here on.

Bonnie

Stay with us, please. We want to talk with you more.

Serena

Mm-hm.

Mairin

But Lysandre is waiting for me, and I'd really rather not bump into Alain. (Strokes Clemont's Chespin) Chespin, you're so sweet. I'm so glad I met you.

[Chespin bends back, trying to look tall.]

Chespin

Chespin-pin!

[He bends back too far, wobbles and falls over.]

Chespin

Ches!

Pancham

(Runs in, to Chespin) Cha-cha!

Mairin

You're a bit different than my Chespie. You act kind of silly, you know? (Chuckles) You're kind of like me.

Chespin

(Scratching his head, embarrassed) Pin-pin Ches.

Serena

One thing, Mairin.

Mairin

Huh?

Serena

If there's anything we can do, just let us know. We'll do whatever we can to help.

Bonnie

(Nods) Mm-hm. We sure will.

[Bonnie and Mairin smile at each other.]

Mairin

(Nods) Mm-hm.

Serena

Good luck. I hope Chespie gets well soon.

Mairin

(Nods) Mm-hm. Chespie is going to be fine. It'll get better soon. I'm sure of that.

[Bonnie picks up Clemont's Chespin.]

Bonnie

When it gets better, please bring your Chespie over, to play with Chespin!

Chespin

Ches!

Mairin

Thanks a lot, you guys, I will. See you soon!

[Mairin runs up the stairs, but stops after a few steps and waves back to them.]

Mairin

Wow! This was a fun day.

[Serena and Bonnie wave back.]

Bonnie

See you tomorrow, okay?

Mairin

(Nods) Mm-hm.

[Mairin leaves. Meanwhile, Ash is with his Pokémon at the training ground.]

Ash Ketchum

We're finally going up against Alain. What do we want? We want to win! And we're going to do just that. Ready?

[Ash's Pokémon punch the air and warcry. Cut to Alain. His Charizard swoops across and lands by him. Alain strokes Charizard's chin.]

Alain

Tomorrow is our battle against Ash. I just can't wait. not sure why, but that's how I truly feel.

Charizard

(Grunts)

Alain

(Nods) Mm.

[Cut to Ash, who nods too; then to Pikachu.]

Ash's Pikachu

Pika?

[Lysandre meets up with Ash. Cut to Alain.]

Alain

Charizard, very soon... (opens his communicator)..we'll have enough.

[A hologram of a line graph shows.]

Charizard

(Grunts)

[He looks at his watch.]

Alain

Hmm. Huh?

[Another person comes to meet him. Cut to Ash and Lysandre.]

Lysandre

Hi, there. You must be Ash.

Ash Ketchum

That's right. Who are you?

Lysandre

Lysandre. It's a pleasure to meet you.

Ash Ketchum

Ah! Mairin mentioned you.

Lysandre

Oh? So you know Mairin?

Ash Ketchum

Yeah. We were just hanging out with her. She left for her hotel.

Lysandre

I came here to see you.

Ash Ketchum

Huh? See me?

[Cut to Sycamore, meeting up with Alain and Charizard.]

Professor Sycamore

Got a sec? Let's catch up. (To Charizard) Wow, Charizard, you look so strong.

Charizard

Woo! Woo!

[Sycamore strokes his chin. Charizard purrs.]

Professor Sycamore

So much to say.

Alain

Eh?

Professor Sycamore

There's a lot I want to tell you. But now the words escape me.

Alain

Are you angry I didn't come back?

Professor Sycamore

Angry? Oh, no. I heard you've been working with Lysandre on his work.

Alain

I have been. I didn't want to put you in any kind of danger.

Professor Sycamore

Huh?

[Cut to Alain's Mega-ring.]

Alain

They say there's great value in the energy that's produced during Mega Evolution.

[Cut to the Mega-button necklace on Charizard.]

Alain

But there are those who will use that power for evil and do anything to get it.

Professor Sycamore

You did that so you could protect me.

Alain

And I can't return. I lost far too much after I left for my journey. Until I can get them back...I have to become much, much stronger.

Professor Sycamore

Hmm. Do what you need to do.

Alain

Huh?

[Cut to Lysandre and Ash.]

Lysandre

The talk of the Kalos League is totally about you and your Greninja.

Ash Ketchum

Mm. About the Bond Phenomenon, right?

Lysandre

Oh? The Bond Phenomenon?

Ash Ketchum

That's right. You see, Professor Sycamore looked into it. So was that it?

Lysandre

Such power is amazing. It's a new possibility between people and Pokémon. It's sure to be a guiding light that ushers in a new world. Mega Evolution. I'm interested in it, and the bond that exists between people and Pokémon. I'd love to hear your story in detail after the League is over. (Touches Ash's shoulders) Can we make a promise to meet?

Ash Ketchum

Sure.

Lysandre

(Lets go) Thank you. Until then, I wish you the best of luck in the finals.

[Lysandre turns and leaves.]

Ash Ketchum

Thanks.

[Ash has a worried look on his face. Pikachu jumps on Ash's shoulder.]

Ash's Pikachu

(Suspicious) Pika?

[Lysandre looks at the red light atop the Prism Tower. He smiles. Mairin spots him and waves.]

Mairin

Hi, Lysandre.

Lysandre

Mairin, I have good news.

Mairin

Huh?

Lysandre

Everything will be better tomorrow. (Mairin goes bubbly-eyed) Chespie too. All because of the Mega Evolution energy Alain has gathered.

Mairin

Thank goodness! (Teary-eyed) I'm so relieved.

[The next day, a helicopter patrols the stadium. Cheering can be heard in the crowd.]

Announcer

The final round of the Kalos League is upon us. After one fierce battle followed by another,- one last battle remains!

[-Serena, Bonnie, Clemont and Sawyer are sat next to each other on the back row. Shauna, Trevor and Tierno are on the row in-front of them. Mairin, Lysandre and the Male Team Flare Admin are watching from a separate room. Team Rocket have their recording equipment, with Malva next to them. Diantha and Sycamore are also sat next to each other in the booth.]

Narrator

As the entire Kalos region watches, two trainers will battle in the finals. Who will emerge victorious? Will it be Ash, or will it be Alain?

[The two competitors make their way up the steps through the tunnel towards the battlefield.]

Announcer

Both trainers, please enter.

[They both step on the podium, smiling at each other.]

Narrator

As the Kalos League reaches its conclusion, both questions will soon be answered, as the journey continues.

[The caption "TO BE CONTINUED..." appears at the bottom of the screen. The credits appear.]
