This is a transcript of the Pokémon the Series: XYZ episode: "A League of His Own!".

[At Lumiose City, Ash and his friends arrive at the site of the Kalos League.]

Ash Ketchum

Yeah! There it is!

Ash's Pikachu

Pika!

[They see the stadium up ahead.]

Ash Ketchum

Awesome! Kalos League, here we come!

Ash's Pikachu

(Happy) Pika!

Narrator

Ash has won his eighth Kalos Gym Badge, and now our heroes have arrived in Lumiose City, site of the Kalos League. This is where Ash's greatest challenge yet is about to begin.

Malva

(Through speakers) The entire city of Lumiose is celebrating the Kalos League. The city is bustling with excitement, and the fans are eagerly waiting for it to begin. I'm Malva, and I'll be covering the Kalos League and all of its excitement.-

[-Team Rocket - with their backs turned, are recording live on air.]

Malva

I think this would be a great opportunity to interview a trainer who is competing in the tournament. (Gasps)

[Cut to Team Rocket. Meowth is part of a disguise as a working man holding the microphone. The team slump.]

Meowth

Remind me not to be on a TV crew again.

Jessie

(Gets up) Now, now, this will be a golden opportunity to steal some great Pokémon.

James

(Gets up) Right now, there are more than I can count.

Jessie

In the meantime, let's earn us a little cash.

[Jessie runs.]

James

A great way to get food and Pokémon!

[Meowth groans and walks, but wobbles. Meowth pulls the top of his shirt, revealing Wobbuffet as a member of the TV crew.]

Meowth

Keep it steady down there.

Wobbuffet

(Annoyed) Wobbuffet.

[Ash and friends run over and gawk at the stadium.]

Ash Ketchum

Wow. It's huge.

Bonnie

So many people, too.

Clemont

And to think we're finally here.

Serena

Where Ash's Battle of All Battles takes place.

Ash Ketchum

Yeah. Along with tons of strong trainers and Pokémon. (To Pikachu) I'm excited just thinking about it. You too?

Ash's Pikachu

Pika!

Malva

(Off screen) Excuse me!

Ash Ketchum

Huh?

[Malva, holding the microphone, runs over to interview Ash.]

Malva

Are you competing in the Kalos League?

Ash Ketchum

Uh, that's right.

Malva

(Points her microphone towards Ash.) Will you let me interview you?

Ash Ketchum

Huh? You want to interview me?

Jessie

Ah!

[An annoyed Team Rocket turn around and huddle themselves.]

Jessie

She found the twerp.

Meowth

Rotten twerp luck.

Malva

(Calling Team Rocket) Roll the camera!

[Team Rocket hurry over and roll the camera. Malva starts the interview.]

Malva

Your name, please?

Ash Ketchum

It's Ash. I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town.

Malva

Tell me what you hope to accomplish here.

Ash Ketchum

Sure thing. I'm here so I can win it all. Battle by battle, step by step, I'll be the Kalos League champ! (Pauses, scratches his head) Well, you asked.

[Ash's friends laugh.]

Malva

You heard it here first, a declaration of victory. Good luck, Ash.

[Cut to Everett, looking envious.]

Ash Ketchum

Thanks a lot.

Everett

(Grumbles)

[The opening theme and title card plays.]

Serena

You'd better hurry, Ash, or you're not going to be able to register in time.

Ash Ketchum

So many people are stopping to wish me good luck.

Everett

Hold up.

[Everett steps in-front of Ash and his friends.]

Ash Ketchum

So, since you've already decided you're the winner, show me how strong you are.

Ash Ketchum

Huh?

[Everett draws his Pokéball.]

Everett

Let's have a battle.

[Everett deploys his Furfrou. It has a Kabuki Trim. Cut to Ash, with Pikachu looking worried.]

Everett's Furfrou

Furfrou!

Ash Ketchum

Wow! A Furfrou! (Draws his Pokéball) Perfect timing. (Prepares to throw it) This'll be my (A hand blocks his throwing arm) PRE-LEAGUE...

Serena

There's no time for that. You've got to register.

Ash Ketchum

Uh...

Clemont

(To Everett) We're sorry, but the thing is, registration is going to close soon. (Bows) I hope you'll excuse us.

[Clemont walks onward, followed by his friends.]

Serena

No time to waste.

Ash Ketchum

Sorry, next time, promise.

Serena

What will you do if you can't compete because you miss registration?

Bonnie

You can be such a kid.

Everett

(Groans)

Everett's Furfrou

Frou...

[At sunset, Ash and his friends arrive at the registration place. Dedenne and Pikachu enjoy their food.]

Serena

So close...

Ash Ketchum

Yeah, but we made it just in time.

[The camera pans through all the contestants.]

Ash Ketchum

Just think, everyone here has won lots of Gym battles. This'll be great. I can't wait to battle them. (Sees someone) Huh?

[He notices Sawyer on a separate table, and flashes back.]

Ash Ketchum

(To Sawyer) Just watch. I'm going to do it. No doubt I'll get my eighth Gym Badge here. We'll battle at the Kalos League. I'm going to break my losing streak. And then you and I will even the score.

Sawyer

Yeah. You're on, Ash.

[The flashback ends. Ash nods. Sawyer nods in return.]

Sawyer

(To himself) I knew he'd make it here. I've been looking up to him for so long, and he didn't disappoint.

[Suddenly, Ash yelps as he gets pushed from behind. The camera pans to Tierno.]

Tierno

Hey, Ash, good to see you.

[Trevor arrives.]

Ash Ketchum

It's Tierno.

Trevor

Nice to see you, Ash.

Ash Ketchum

And Trevor, too.

Bonnie

(To Tierno, high-fiving) How's it going?

Tierno

Just fine, Bonnie. (To Serena, infatuated) And seeing you is the best ever.

Serena

Uh, thanks a lot.

Tierno

Trevor and I watched you in the Pokémon Showcase. You were so good.

Serena

Thanks, Tierno. I didn't manage to become queen.

[Tierno tuts.]

Tierno

But you'll always be a queen to me.

[Tierno blows a kiss. Serena dodges the floating heart.]

Serena

Oh! (Chuckles) So, where's Shauna?

Trevor

She said she's coming later.

Serena

That's great.

Ash Ketchum

Are you guys competing?

Tierno

I sure am. I'm going to win the whole competition.

Trevor

Oh, yeah? That's what you think! I'm going to win the whole thing, too.

Ash Ketchum

Great! So am I. (Sees someone else) Huh?

[Ash sees the back of Alain in the distance, standing on his own. Sycamore greets him and offers a handshake. Alain just bows. Ash gasps. Alain turns and walks, leaving Sycamore miserable.]

Ash Ketchum

Professor Sycamore and Alain. (Calls) Alain!

[Alain stops and turns to see him.]

Ash Ketchum

I'm competing. Are you, too?

[Alain faces him.]

Alain

Yeah, because I want to battle against you.

Ash Ketchum

(Excited) Really?

Alain

There's the matter of Mega Evolution energy, too.

Ash Ketchum

Huh?

Alain

For now, my goal is to keep on advancing. You make sure you do the same thing.

Ash Ketchum

I will. No way I'll lose. The point is to win the whole thing.

Alain

Alain turns and walks off.

[The announcer speaks on the podium. Professor Sycamore is alongside him.]

Announcer

Ladies and gentlemen, we will now announce the match-ups for the first round.

[Everyone else watches the screen above the announcer.]

Announcer

Up on the monitor, there you have them!

[128 icons of competitors, shown as cards, appear on the screen. The cards are shuffled and arranged with pairs, with a "VS" between them, revealing the draw.]

Announcer

First round match-ups.

[The first match shows Alain vs Trevor.]

Ash Ketchum

Wow. First up are Trevor and Alain.

Trevor

(Unconvinced) Mm-hm.

[Cut to Ash's match-up shown below Alain vs Trevor.]

Serena

Ash, you're in the second battle.

Ash Ketchum

I wonder who my opponent is. (Notices) Huh?

[The trainer looks at Ash and nods. Ash nods back.]

Tierno

I'm in battle twenty-three. All right!

[Cut to Tierno's match-up, then to Sawyer, then to his match-up, and then to an aerial view of the room.]

Announcer

Best of luck, everyone.

[Everyone cheers and applauds.]

Trevor

Oh, man, the first battle.

Tierno

You'll be fine, Trevor...with your secret weapon.

Trevor

Yeah, I know, but still...

Ash Ketchum

Hey, awesome! What's your secret weapon?

Trevor

Can't say. If I were to tell you what it was, it wouldn't be a surprise now, would it?

Serena

Huh?

Ash Ketchum

Come on, tell me already! Do you know, Tierno?

Tierno

(Stutters) Huh, me?

Trevor

Let's keep it a secret until tomorrow. I might have to battle Ash, you know.

[Cut to a top down view of the stadium. Fireworks go off. Inside, two volunteers open a giant Pokéball, releasing a large flock of Fletchling. The crowd cheers.]

Announcer

A beautiful, clear blue sky marks the beginning of this much anticipated event. The Kalos League is on! first up, our opening ceremony. Kalos Champion Diantha will deliver the opening speech.

[The crowd continue cheering. Diantha stands up from the judges' desk and walks in-front of it to deliver here speech.]

Diantha

To all our trainers, your efforts and experiences are treasures that will always be with you.- And now is the time to put all of that yo the test. The Kalos League demands that you give everything you've got and demonstrate all your hard work and dedication.

[-Trevor walks along the tunnel towards the platform. Cut to Diantha.]

Diantha

It is my great honor to declare this year's Kalos League...open!

[The crowd cheers and confetti glitters down. Trevor continues to make his way towards the podium.]

Announcer

The two trainers competing in this opening battle are Trevor and Alain. The battle format will be three on three until the semifinals. In addition, the battlefield will be randomly selected. So, the field for our opening battle is...a water and rock battlefield!

[As the two trainers face each other, a water and rock battlefield is inserted into the stadium. The crowd cheers.]

Referee

Trainers, please bring out your Pokémon.

[Trevor breathes deeply and draws his Pokéball.]

Trevor

Charizard, come on out!

Charizard

(Roars)

Clemont

That's amazing. His Charmeleon evolved.

Ash Ketchum

Now for Alain's choice.

Alain

Charizard, let's go!

Alain's Charizard

(Roars)

[Alain's Charizard, fired up as it lands, has a Mega button attached to its necklace. The crowd cheers.]

Announcer

Wow! Both trainers are using Charizard. Without a doubt guaranteed to be a memorable battle.

[The scoreboard shows Trevor on the top row with Charizard and two other Pokéballs, and Alain on the bottom row with Charizard and two other Pokéballs, separated by a "VS" in the center. Both Charizard are in their combat stances.]

Announcer

Now, which Charizard will make the first move?

Trevor

Well, I'll make the first move if you won't. All right, Charizard, Fire Spin!

[Trevor's Charizard roars and then pounds his fists on the ground. Flames blitz toward the opposing Charizard.]

Alain

Dodge it, Charizard!

[Alain's Charizard leaps and flies just as the flames create a twister that follows him.]

Alain

Now, Flamethrower!

[Alain's Charizard fires flames through its mouth.]

Trevor

Use Dragon Claw!

[Trevor's Charizard glows green claws and shield its face with them to block Flamethrower. They stop.]

Trevor

Hm!

[Trevor picks up his camera, which has a Mega-button attached to the clicker.]

Trevor

Okay, time to show off right from the start. Let's get to it, Charizard!

[Trevor activates the Key Stone on his camera. It lights up. The corresponding Mega Stone, on a ring attached to Charizard's tail, activates and lights up. Charizard starts transforming; its growl grows deeper. Ash and friends gasp in shock. Charizard completes the transformation to Mega-Charizard Y, with a Mega symbol appearing at the center of the screen.]

Announcer

Trevor's Charizard has just Mega Evolved!

Ash Ketchum

Wow!

Clemont

So the secret weapon Trevor mentioned yesterday was Mega Evolution.

Tierno

That surprises you?- Trevor's been training really hard for the Kalos League.

[-Harsh Sunlight activates on the battlefield.]

Trevor

My Mega Charizard's ability is Drought. You're going to be hit with some extra powerful Fire-type moves, so get ready. Charizard, Heat Wave!

[A current of fire rages toward the opposing Charizard.]

Alain

Quickly, splash water!

[Alain's Charizard flicks its tail into the water, sending a column up into the air, blocking Heat wave and creating an explosion of steam.]

Announcer

Alain blocks with a pillar of water. Quick thinking.

Ash Ketchum

(Impressed) That's Alain for you.

Ash's Pikachu

Pika.

Clemont

Skillfully using the field to his advantage.

Trevor

Charizard, you've got to keep up the pressure. Use Dragon Tail!

[Trevor's Charizard leaps - Its tail glows green - and somersaults toward the target.]

Alain

Now, dodge it!

[Alain's Charizard leaps and flies up at the exact moment Trevor's Charizard hits the ground with the move, creating a plume of dust.]

Announcer

The entire stadium is feeling the heat, too.

Alain

Right. There's no holding back.

[Alain activates the Key Stone attached to the ring on his wrist. It lights up.]

Alain

Respond to my heart, now Key Stone, beyond evolution, MEGA EVOLVE!

[The Mega Stone activates on Alain's Charizard. It roars as it completes its transformation to Mega Charizard X.]

Ash Ketchum

There it is!

Clemont

Alain's got a secret weapon, too.

Announcer

This bout has now turned into a Mega Charizard battle! Who could've imagined the first battle of the Kalos League would turn out to be this incredible?

[The segment "Who's that Pokémon?" plays.]

Trevor

Now, Charizard, use Fire Spin!

[Trevor's Charizard breathes fire towards its opponent.]

Alain

Use Flamethrower!

[The two moves collide, causing an explosion of white smoke which lingers.]

Announcer

The smoke is blocking our view. What in the world's happening inside that smoke cloud?

Trevor

Charizard, fly up.

[Trevor's Charizard flies up.]

Announcer

Trevor's Charizard is flying above the smoke cloud.

[Alain smiles.]

Alain

Straight ahead, angle fifty-three degrees, use Flamethrower!

[Cut to a top down view of Trevor's Charizard looking down at the smoke. A Blue Flame protrudes through the smoke and hits it, causing an explosion of black smoke.]

Trevor

Charizard, no!

[Trevor's Charizard, having been blasted from the attack, uncontrollably falls. Ash and friends gasp in shock.]

Ash's Pikachu

Pika!

[Trevor's Charizard crashes to the ground and faints.]

Referee

Trevor's Charizard is unable to battle. Alain's Charizard is the winner!

[The crowd cheers.]

Ash Ketchum

That's that.

Clemont

An attack that intense needs a really strong bond between Trainer and Pokémon to co-ordinate.

Bonnie

Really strong.

Serena

Huh? Hey, Ash, I think you'd better get going now.

Ash Ketchum

Right.

[Ash stands up. His friends look up to him.]

Serena

Lots of luck, Ash.

Tierno

Go show 'em who's boss.

Clemont

We'll all be here cheering you on.

Bonnie

Yeah, show them how to battle!

Ash Ketchum

I will. Thanks, you guys.

[Ash makes his way up the stairs, but not before he sees Alain one more time, smiling.]

Trevor

Aerodactyl, let's go!

[Aerodactyl is deployed next. It screeches.]

Announcer

Trevor's second Pokémon is Aerodactyl.

[Ash runs along the corridor - where coverage of the battle can be viewed on the monitor, but stops at the other end, encountering Everett once again.]

Everett

So we meet again.

Ash Ketchum

Huh?

[Everett and Ash face each other, the forming holding a Pokéball.]

Everett

Let's have a battle.

Ash Ketchum

(Losing temper) But I've got a battle out there.

Everett

You promised.

[A flashback plays of Ash walking past Everett.]

Ash Ketchum

Sorry, next time, promise.

Everett

Running away again?

Ash's Pikachu

(Upset pleading) Pika-Pika!

Ash Ketchum

I know, but I did say the next time.

Ash's Pikachu

(Panicking) Pika! Pika-Pika!

Ash Ketchum

I'm keeping my word. (Straightens his cap) I have to do it.

Everett

That's what I want to hear from a trainer who's won eight badges. A one-on-one battle, no holding back!

[Everett deploys Furfrou from his Pokéball.]

Everett's Furfrou

Furfrou!

Ash Ketchum

Let's do this.

[Pikachu confronts Furfrou.]

Ash's Pikachu

(Angry) Pikachu!

Everett

Who cares about badges? I'm going to beat you and prove how strong I am. Furfrou, Sand Attack!

Everett's Furfrou

Furfrou!

[Sand whips up into Pikachu's eyes, blinding him. He rubs his eyes.]

Ash's Pikachu

(Uncomfortable) Pika!

Ash Ketchum

Oh, no!

Everett

There are lots of strong trainers, you know,- trainers without eight badges.

[-On the monitor, Aerodactyl is blasted by a Flamethrower from Alain's Charizard.]

Everett

Now, Furfrou, Giga Impact, go!

Everett's Furfrou

Fur-r-r-r!

[Furfrou glows a white aura and charges toward the target.]

Ash Ketchum

Dodge it, Pikachu!

[Furfrou hits and blasts Pikachu with the move. At the same time, on the monitor Aerodactyl crashes and faints on the ground by Trevor's side.]

Trevor

Aerodactyl!

Referee

Aerodactyl is unable to battle.

[The camera zooms out to Ash.]

Ash Ketchum

Are you okay? Pikachu?

[Pikachu gets up slowly.]

Ash's Pikachu

(Recovering) Pika!

Everett

Furfrou, now, Take Down!

Everett's Furfrou

Fur!

[Furfrou obeys.]

Ash Ketchum

Pikachu, Iron Tail!

[Pikachu leaps backward and glows its tail, hitting the target with it.]

Ash Ketchum

Keep it up. Electro Ball!

[Pikachu sets up the move.]

Everett

Furfrou, use Cotton Guard!

[Furfrou glows white. Cotton cloud puff up followed by a blue aura. Pikachu releases Electro Ball, creating an explosion. Everett flinches.]

Everett

Ah!

Everett's Furfrou

(Spluttering)

Everett

That was close.

Ash Ketchum

You're strong, all right. But I'm just going to have to beat you so I can get out there. I didn't make it to the Kalos League for nothing, you know. I've got a lot of memories associated with each and every Gym Badge I've won. Get ready for this. I'll show you what they all mean.

Ash's Pikachu

(Fired Up) Pikachuuu!

Florges

Florges!

[Cut to Trevor's battle. A White-Flower Florges loads up and shoots a green orb. Charizard intercepts it and hits the target Pokémon with Flamethrower, causing an explosion that rattles the battlefield.]

Announcer

Alain's Mega Charizard nails that Flamethrower.

[Florges crashes down and faints.]

Trevor

Florges!

Referee

Florges is unable to battle, Charizard wins, which means the winner is Alain!

[The crowd cheers and applauds as on the scoreboard, an icon of Alain with the text "WINNER" shows. Alain does not celebrate his victory.]

Announcer

And Alain grabs the first win of the league, showing us he's a cut above.

[Trevor returns Florges back to his Pokéball.]

Trevor

Well, I guess it's over. My Kalos League's done.

Announcer

Moving on to the next battle, presenting Titus and Ash!

[Titus appears on the podium. The crowd cheers. The proposed battlefield raises up the arena.]

Announcer

The next battlefield...it's covered in grass! Uh... what's going on here?

[Titus' jaw drops in confusion as their opponent is still not showing up.]

Announcer

Ash has yet to appear on the battlefield.

[Cut to Ash's friends, all sweating.]

Serena

(Annoyed) What? What now?

Clemont

Something must have happened along the way.

Bonnie

What if he doesn't show up?

[Clemont lights up his glasses.]

Clemont

His opponent will win by default, and Ash's Kalos League will be over before it starts.

[Bonnie shudders and Serena groans and facepalms.]

[Cut to Team Rocket.]

Jessie

Does that twerp think he's got better things to do?

Meowth

What a dumb way to throw in the towel.

James

Completely caving at the crunch. What nerve.

[Tense music plays; cut to the battle.]

Announcer

Will Titus win by default?

[The referee looks at his watch, and puts his hand up indicating a signal.]

Referee

Time is up, which means Ash has...

Ash Ketchum

(Calling) Wait! Wait!

Referee

Hmm?

[Ash and Pikachu are running across the tunnel towards his place on the battlefield.]

Ash Ketchum

I'm sorry.

Ash's Pikachu

(Calling) Pika-Pika!

Ash Ketchum

(While running) I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town, and I'm here!

Ash's Pikachu

(Calling) Pikachu!

[Cut to Ash's friends, relieved.]

Bonnie

There he is!

Clemont

(Sighs)

Serena

Thank goodness. I could do without the stress, though.

Clemont

If he could just be a little more on top of things.

Jessie, James and Meowth

Twerp time!

[Ash makes his way to the platform, panting in exhaustion.]

Announcer

Well, well, Ash finally makes his appearance.- And not a moment too soon, I must say.

[-Cut to Everett, slumping next to the wall in the tunnel. A flashback of Ash's battle plays.]

Ash Ketchum

All right, Quick Attack!

Everett

Here goes. Use Cotton Guard.

[Pikachu hits Furfrou with Quick Attack immediately after it sets up Cotton Guard.]

Ash Ketchum

Let's finish this with Thunderbolt!

Ash's Pikachu

Pikachu-u-u-u!

[Pikachu hits Furfrou again with Thunderbolt, fainting it as the smoke clears.]

Everett's Furfrou

(Groans)

[Everett consoles Furfrou.]

Everett

Furfrou, no!

Ash Ketchum

Thank you for the battle.

Everett

You really beat me.

[Everett returns Furfrou, still kneeling on the ground, his fist shaking and starting to cry wth tears falling down.]

Everett

I couldn't get all eight badges in time. The thing is...there are lots of trainers like me who wanted to compete here. All those trainers with all their dreams and all their hopes. You better win, no matter what.

Ash Ketchum

I'll win, all right.

Ash's Pikachu

(Fierce) Pika!

[Ash walks. The flashback ends. The crowd cheers.]

Ash Ketchum

(Aloud) I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town! I want to become a Pokémon Master. That means... (Raises his arm up)..win the Kalos League!

[Extra cheers override the cheers in the crowd. Cut to Serena smiling, Bonnie, Clemont and Tierno laughing, then to Trevor, Sawyer and Alain smiling.]

Announcer

There it is, a declaration of victory! Now, let's see what kind of battle Ash has in store for us.

Titus

Altaria, let's go!

[Altaria is deployed from Titus' Pokéball.]

Altaria

Altaria!

Ash Ketchum

Altaria, huh? Pikachu, you get some rest, okay?

Ash's Pikachu

Pika.

Ash Ketchum

(Drawing his Pokéball) Greninja, I choose you!

Greninja

Greninja!

[The icons on the scoreboard show Altaria and Greninja in battle.]

Referee

Now, second battle, begin!

Titus

Altaria, use Dragon Pulse!

[Altaria hits Greninja with the move.]

Announcer

Greninja's hit hard with a Dragon Pulse.

Ash Ketchum

Greninja, you okay?

Greninja

Greninja.

Titus

Altaria, Draco Meteor!

[A shower of meteors begin to form.]

Announcer

Wow, an especially powerful Draco Meteor. Is this it for Greninja?

Ash Ketchum

Yeah, so let's bring out everything we've got. Stronger... Even stronger! Here we go!

[Ash-Greninja activates, generating a whirlpool. Greninja is surrounded by a bubbly aura as it makes its way across the target, dodging the Draco Meteors. Greninja leaps and roars, generating its signature shuriken on its back.]

Greninja

Greninja!

[Ash-Greninja shows its combat pose. Ash's friend squeal in delight.]

Sawyer

(Happy) All right!

Trevor

Ash had a secret weapon, too. Awesome.

[Titus and Altaria shudder. The crowd cheer.]

Announcer

What's going on?! Greninja...changed!

Alain

(Smiling, to himself) So, they mastered it.

Ash Ketchum

Greninja, Water Shuriken!

[Greninja flings its upgraded shuriken and directly hits Altaria, fainting it.]

Titus

Altaria!

Altaria

(Weakly) Altaria...

Referee

Altaria is unable to battle. Greninja's the winner!

[Squealing can be heard over cheering.]

Announcer

Ash and Greninja have taken their first win. Looks like an unexpected new star trainer has appeared.

Serena

Wow! Ash did it!

Bonnie

Yay! Ash and Greninja are so cool!

Clemont

He's got two more wins to go.

Ash Ketchum

All right. Let's wrap this thing up as quick as we can.

[Sawyer writes on his notebook.]

Sawyer

That's great. I'm glad they finally figured it out. That shuriken on Greninja's back is proof of its strength. But I haven't just been twiddling my thumbs. (Fiercely) I'll hit Ash with all I've got.

Narrator
