Confronting the Darkness! (ミアレシティ捜査線!シトロイド対ブラック・シトロイド!!, The Lumiose City Investigation! Clembot Against Dark-Clembot!!?) is the 18th episode of Pokémon the Series: XY Kalos Quest.

Synopsis[]

Ash, Serena, and Bonnie have finally rejoined Clemont in Lumiose City. Ash can’t wait to get their Gym battle started, but it’s quickly interrupted by Officer Jenny...who places Clembot under arrest! Security footage shows a robot that looks just like Clembot vandalizing several businesses around the city. Clemont sets out to prove Clembot’s innocence with the help of the journalist Alexa, who’s been trying to track down a mysterious man in a Blaziken mask as a possible witness.

At Alexa’s advice, Clemont investigates the Prism Tower computer where Clembot’s blueprints are stored. Sure enough, a robotics researcher known as Doctor Belmondo has hacked into the computer and stolen the blueprints to create a Dark Clembot of his own! Our heroes catch the pair red-handed at the Lumiose Museum, where Clembot defeats Dark Clembot in a Pokémon battle and Belmondo confesses everything.

With Clembot’s good name restored, the stage is set for the Gym battle between Ash and Clemont![1]

Episode plot[]

Ash, Bonnie and Serena run towards Prism Tower and meet up with Clemont and Clembot. Pikachu and Chespin are happy to see each other. Bonnie hugs her brother, admitting a lot has happened and she proposed a lot of girls to be his girlfriends. Clemont says he is ready for the Gym match. Before Serena sends out Braixen, showing Clemont that Fennekin evolved. Clemont is pleased, knowing Serena will have better performance combinations for the next showcase. Ash sends out Goodra, replying they became stronger as well. Later, Ash and Clemont stand on the battle field, ready for battle, while the others watch at the side. Suddenly, Officer Jenny appears and shows Clemont and Clembot a warrant for the latter's arrest, shocking everyone. Soon, Clembot finds itself inside a jail cell, while Clemont thinks this is all a misunderstanding.

Jenny shows them footage of a robot resembling Clembot taking a star from a three-star hotel's sign and desecrating a boutique's mannequins. Clemont points out the robot on the video does not have a dent on its head, while Clembot does, and that Clembot was with him all the time. Jenny says this isn't strong enough evidence to release Clembot, but Ash promises Clemont that they will find a way to prove Clembot's innocence. The heroes exit the police station and meet up with Meyer, who heard the news of Clembot being arrested. Alexa also appears and has been investigating this case. She knows Clembot is not involved, but has information that Blaziken Mask is also investigating the case, making Meyer nervous. Meyer replies he never heard of Blaziken Mask, but Ash and Alexa are certain he exists, since Ash was saved by his Mega Blaziken, making Meyer even more nervous. Nevertheless, Clemont believes someone made a copy of Clembot. Alexa thinks a robot can be made with the right blueprints, so the heroes go to check Clemont's computer at Prism Tower, which contains Clembot's blueprints.

Clemont checks the computer and finds out it has been hacked and the blueprints have been copied. He soon finds out that someone used the computers from Lumiose University on the robotics department server to copy the data. He discovers that Clembot's blueprints have been stolen from that server before discovering the copy of Clembot, painted in a black color. Clemont also finds floor plans for an electronics storage and the Lumiose Museum. Clemont plugs a wire to the computer to get this info and give it to Jenny, but as he does, he discovers a name shown on the screen, "Belmondo". Meanwhile, Dark Clembot enters the electronics storage and is ordered by a man to cause mischief. The robot sends out Magneton, who uses Discharge to destroy the electronics stored there. Team Rocket also came to the warehouse to steal the electronic appliances and see Dark Clembot in action. Seeing the robot, they plan on stealing it for their benefit. Later, Jenny receives the data from the heroes and is certain that the robot that commited the crimes is not Clembot. She asks where Clemont got the data, and he says that Prism Tower's computer was hacked and the hacker stole Clembot's blueprints, so he kept tracing furthur back until he discovered the name "Belmondo". Jenny is familar with that name, as it is the name of a robotics researcher. Clemont also shows Jenny the floor plans for the electronics storage and the Lumiose Museum and she gets surprised, and tells the heroes that another incident took place there.

Jenny shows them the warehouse's electric appliances were damaged. She is certain Clembot is not involved, and heroes convince her that it isn't, so she frees it. The heroes are pleased, while Clemont asks Clembot for assistance to capture the real troublemaker, to which Clembot agrees to. Soon, they are at the museum, where the heroes remain until trouble arises. During the night, Dark Clembot helps the man break into the museum. Ash and Pikachu notice them and warn the others. Dark Clembot goes to break in, but is attacked by Clembot, sending them both crashing down into the ground. The heroes come and see the man, Belmondo, as well as Dark Clembot, to which Serena goes to inform Jenny of this. Clemont asks Belmondo what he was planning to do with Dark Clembot, to which Belmondo admits that it was to frame the original Clembot as a criminal. Belmondo says he makes the very best robots, but after seeing Clembot, he believed it wasn't complete, so he made Dark Clembot as a result, calling it the greatest robot ever created. Clemont denies this, saying that his Clembot is a masterpiece of robotic design. Belmondo does not care and says it is time for a Pokémon battle between the robots to see which one is the greatest. Angry at Belmondo for abusing the power of science for his own selfish ambitions, Clemont accepts his challenge, as he won't allow science to be abused for such things. Dark Clembot sends out Magneton and Clembot sends out Heliolisk, and the battle immediately ensues.

Magneton uses Thunder Shock, but misses. It uses Electro Ball, but is reflected back by Heliolisk's Dragon Tail. Magneton goes through and hits Heliolisk with Tackle. Meanwhile, Alexa sees something moving on the roof. During the battle, Officer Jenny appears and demands that Belmondo and Dark Clembot come with her, but Belmondo simply smirks. Magneton uses Flash Cannon, which Heliolisk dodges and retaliates with Parabolic Charge, but is hit by Magneton's Tackle. Heliolisk gets back to shape, while Dark Clembot orders Magneton to be faster despite its visibly critical condition. Clemont exclaims that the battle is over, and that Dark Clembot already lost, as it does not care about the condition of the Pokémon it battles with at all, only caring about winning, while the original Clembot battles alongside the Pokémon it uses in battle. Belmondo laughs at this and calls Clemont a fool, saying that the only thing that matters in battle is winning. That was how he programmed Dark Clembot and he says that was what made it the most powerful robot ever. Clemont replies back that the robot that is best at battling cares about the Pokémon it uses instead of getting the win, and that this definition was what perfectly describes Clembot. Suddenly, Clembot and Dark Clembot get sucked up by a magnetic force, as Team Rocket appears, having binded both robots to their magnet. However, Team Rocket gets burned by Mega Blaziken. Alexa appears as well, noticing Blaziken Mask is also present.

Mega Blaziken uses Flare Blitz, freeing the robots from the magnet. Using Blaze Kick, Mega Blaziken pierces the balloon, blasting Team Rocket off. Clemont calls Heliolisk back and Belmondo switches Magneton for Magnezone. Clemont sends out Luxray, and a final battle between Clemont and Belmondo ensues. Magnezone uses Zap Cannon, which Luxray dodges. Luxray uses Wild Charge, knocking Magnezone down. Belmondo orders Magnezone to stand up and use Electro Ball. Luxray repels it with Electro Ball. Magnezone goes to tackle Luxray, taking Electro Ball's damage. Luxray jumps and uses Swift, defeating Magnezone. With Belmondo cornered and powerless, Clemont tells him that he knew how he fought because his style was the same as Dark Clembot's and suggests that he treat his robot and Pokémon with more respect. Ash and Bonnie are amazed by Clemont, complimenting him, to which Clemont smiles back, while Officer Jenny arrests Belmondo. Blaziken Mask asks Clemont and Ash if they have a Gym match soon. Ash asks how he knows, and Blaziken Mask tells Ash that he knows everything that goes on in Lumiose City and departs with Blaziken.

Alexa tries to follow Blaziken Mask, but loses track of him and takes a wrong turn. Blaziken Mask, who is revealed to be Meyer, speaks to himself, wishing Clemont good luck in the Gym match, as he remembers that Clemont made a promise to Ash. The next day, the heroes eat with Meyer. Clemont reads an article on the newspaper about the events that took place the previous night and Meyer considers Clembot a celebrity, who is embarassed. Nevertheless, Ash and Clemont are certain today is the day for their Gym match.
