Re:New Wiki Manager

Welcome here, nice to meet you, Sly! I don't have any questions for now but I'll reach out to you if I have any!--Lordranged7 (talk) 21:48, April 22, 2020 (UTC)

MediaWiki pages

Hey there,

firstly, I do remember there is a MediaWiki page, which stores all css files. Do you remember which one it is? I tried to search for it but found nothing.

Also, I have stumbled upon a number of MediaWiki pages. Those that are based on Chat have been deleted (as chat feature has been disabled for a long time). I'm fairly sure there are more of them that are unused, do you think these can be deleted? These must be obsolete ones.

Energy X 08:40, July 24, 2020 (UTC)

OK, thanks! Most of these have been made before I even joined the site years ago. Energy X 12:46, July 27, 2020 (UTC)

Hey there, I would like some expert knowledge. Is there some sort of list of people that hold user rights (content mod, admin, etc.)? This is just to color their usernames automatically, instead of having to update this page every time someone gains or loses user rights. Energy X 19:38, July 31, 2020 (UTC)

One more thing, how do I place the "Rollback" tag on people with rollback rights, by using MediaWiki pages? Energy X 20:03, July 31, 2020 (UTC)

Since I've been told that the merge with the Gamepedia site will come soon enough, could you offer any advice on this?

And just how will the merge go? This was a site that has been split from this one ages ago, and some of their articles overlap ours. This one, for example, is very outdated, while ours is not. Here the article is shorter than ours, yet has the Errors section that we could really use. Or even this, an article that is named here as RGB001: A Glimpse of the Glow. Energy X 19:43, August 25, 2020 (UTC)

Exactly. Will do that, then. I'm guessing the rest of the pages (like policies or features) is just up to debate? Energy X 14:18, August 27, 2020 (UTC)
It is more about MediaWiki extensions. It was not so long ago that I requested Arrays, Loops and Variables to be installed on this site. Maybe they have something that we don't? Energy X 14:30, August 27, 2020 (UTC)

Well, it was more of an assumption that anything else. I did see that a lot of content from one of the sites on Gampedia called The Vault being transferred to the site on Fandom, named Nukapedia. It was reasonable enough that same could apply for this site. If anything, I've seen these two messages to say it is time to act and prepare ourselves. Energy X 17:13, September 1, 2020 (UTC)

Well, OK, though the initiative has been taken already. Energy X 19:04, September 1, 2020 (UTC)
I contacted the only two people on there, and they said it was OK. It is not an active place, unlike here. Energy X 08:07, September 2, 2020 (UTC)
To be fair, nearly every article that existed during the split of 2012 has remained there unchanged. It's quite frustrating, really, when one can remember how people were very vocal how they'd flourish there, feeling that they were restrained by Wikia's terms and rules. Yet in the end they made no real changes; the only articles of some worth there are about X & Y games. But at least it was nice that they had some rules that we imported here, for we did apply them but were not written out - in detail. Energy X 20:14, September 2, 2020 (UTC)
Well, not at this point. At very least we could review those new articles and import the content. But I doubt they have anything spectacular that we don't have. In any way, I could inform you when we can say that we have imported the important content to this site. Energy X 20:43, September 2, 2020 (UTC)

It's rather typical after such a big change that some old functionalities are broken, as in JavaScript is not working. Any idea when that will be put back? Energy X 21:58, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Here is a good example. The games at the left rail are not stylized correctly with JavaScript. And before you ask, yes, it could've been done with CSS but that would look really messy. Or this table, it should be colored orange. Energy X 22:13, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Normally you'd be right. But do know that we have around 18 types that correspond to each color, and then there's the combination of the two types. Stylizing each template with border, background and other elements would make the CSS page extremely big and hard to maintain. This way there's a simple function that returns a color depending on the type, and the templates can be stylized. It was done to make the CSS page smaller but with still retaining the functionality. I don't want it to turn into a nightmare like this.
Even if we ignore that, the imported JavaScript still isn't working.
As for your question, it's the "Pokédex entry" section on Wikia.js page.
And as a final note, it's extremely hard to do anything on mobile browser. Sometimes I write quick messages or edits, and now this is very hard to do. Energy X 22:51, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
But you do realize this isn't the only template that uses that styling? And do you realize that there's many more templates that also use that switch-case format to display colors? This was done out of convenience, and it has worked for a really long time, until this migration. Again, I don't want to write hundreds of type combinations just to colorize borders, backgrounds and other whatnot, highly impractical. The Pokédex entry is something I could turn the other way around, even if it was better organized the way it was before. Energy X 07:34, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know that. Alan Sycamore! (talk) 17:54, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

And how will one even maintain that? It was around five years ago when the fairy type was added to the franchise, and updating lots of templates didn't go well. It's hardly fair to expect from people to write another css combination of types if another type gets added, to each and every template, and it's hardly effective, either. I recently started a forum regarding the addition of message wall and the theme designing. Is it okay to add the feature in the wiki? Alan Sycamore! (talk) 04:03, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

I am well aware of that. A vote was conducted on the wiki discussion post as well. All what I want to know is do you personally think the message wall should be added to the wiki? As a wiki manager (and a programmer), you have more experience than us in this subject. I only want to confirm whether it is okay to add the feature. Alan Sycamore! Can you start the redesigning? Alan Sycamore! (talk) 10:40, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Posts in Discussions

Hey Sly!, Thanks for helping us out with the user on earlier this morning on Lordranged7 with this outta your delete's:- - I noticed this was from Lordranged7 in regards of a "haacker or not in Discord" certain thng's i know can be mistaken but when you toy with other's especially in real life like mine that can't be forgiven even if it is/was as a silly mistake.

So as long as it is a mistake not hopefully to seen again anytime soon. I hope this hacker or reather Lordranged7 herself learns from this as a mistake and i will forgive her as a moderator, But i don't want to see this Jacked post ^ ever again as a crazy want a be hacker or even a silly stunt from her which may cause a small problem so yes.

Also especially if she went and blocked my user account (As a crazy act due to: i knew it was a hacker) to where i won't editor then i knew she was hacked! So again thank you for truly for helping us out! I hope Lord really learns something from it, Even if she is a hacker! So thanks again i will be in touch in case things go haywire on discussions alright?

But so you know thank you again Sly for helping us out i'll keep in touch in case i ever need you alright Thanks again!Trainer Micah 2 (talk) 21:34, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

About the new infobox layout

Just my honest opinion about the new infobox design, sorry for any offence:

To me, the color scheme is okay, but due to the removal of lines running through each cell, the text looks too spread-out. The title text and header text also looks a bit too large, especially due to it includes Japanese name as well.

Hope you understand what I think of. Thanks! Dominoes I guess? 07:49, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Just one thing to follow: the core cells in article-table should be white, given that the background color for those cells is now deep purple. Dominoes I guess? 08:07, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

I was told to report this here: the page on mobile displays all three images at the top of the infobox, yet the ordinary one should have them separated into two sections. Energy X 22:41, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Can I request a new feature to be turned on through MediaWiki? I've been told that the old semantic MediaWiki that enabled properties is not what the Staff would like to enable, so can I ask this to be enabled instead? Energy X 23:19, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Well I'm just asking because it would greatly help with editing, especially the move pages. It's really quite difficult to look at pages like these. And, well, was hoping it would be enabled by request only. Energy X 08:25, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Infobox Colour

Could you update the infobox colour please. The colour was changed to match the wiki theme, but was reverted to the previous colour of pink. Ellis99 Volcanion 18:04, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

This one. Ellis99 Volcanion 22:12, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
