Totem Pokémon are a variant Pokémon that are faced at the end of Trials in the Alola Region. Totem Pokémon are larger than their normal counterparts, some being four times larger than normal.
Games[]
At the start of a battle, Totem Pokémon are enveloped in a special aura which boosts one or more of its stats by a set number of stages. According to Wicke, their size and aura are a result of being exposed to the energy from Ultra Wormholes, the same kind of energy that the Ultra Beasts use to wield their Ability Beast Boost, which is further revealed in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon to be Necrozma's light. Totem Pokémon are battled in SOS Battles, which allows them to summon a predetermined ally to help.
Totem Pokémon and their allies battle with higher intelligence and strategy, similar to trainer opponents. Due to the island challenge rules, Totem Pokémon and their allies cannot be caught, thought Totem sized Pokémon can be acquired from Professor Oak in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Totem Stickers[]
In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Totem Stickers appear. These were apparently placed by Ilima to guide trainers on their island challenge. These stickers can be used to receive a totem-sized Pokémon from Samson Oak at Heahea Beach. After collecting a certain number of stickers (there are 100 in total), the player can receive totem-sized Pokémon from this list.
| Stickers | Ultra Sun | Ultra Moon |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Gumshoos | Alolan Raticate |
| 30 | Alolan Marowak | Araquanid |
| 50 | Lurantis | Salazzle |
| 70 | Vikavolt | Togedemaru |
| 80 | Mimikyu | |
| 100 | Ribombee | Kommo-o |
These totems are much larger than other members of their species, and have different height and weight, altering some move mechanics (like Heavy Slam). Unlike actual totem Pokémon, however, they do not have a stat-boosting aura.

Trivia[]
- Totems can summon Pokémon that are not of their species. (For example, Totem Mimikyu can summon a Haunter.)
- In Sun and Moon, Totem Pokémon call allies endlessly. In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, they call allies once per species.
- Any of the totem's stats can be boosted by the aura boost.
- Lusamine's Pokémon have a similar stat boost to totems when fought in Ultra Space in Pokémon Sun and Moon. The Pokémon can not summon allies, though.
- In the anime, when Ash was battling the Totem Gumshoos, Rotom says that this Gumshoos was three times bigger than the first Gumshoos.
- This also happens in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon where the Totem Pokemon that can be caught are bigger in size to normal ones.
- The totem-sized Pokémon are not transferable to Pokémon Sword and Shield. If one does come in, it will not be in its totem form, and instead their regular size.
