− | Togedemaru is likely based on a hedgehog, hamster, porcupine or a Ryukyu Spiny Rat. It continues the pattern of electric-type rodent-like Pokémon like Pikachu, Pichu, Raichu, Plusle and Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, and Dedenne before it. It may also be a reference to Hedgeshock (a hedgehog-like robot boss with electrical powers from the video game Mega Man ZX Advent), or possibly a tongue-in-cheek reference to the webcomic "Sonichu" (named after the titular character, a fusion of Sonic the Hedgehog and Pikachu), infamous for its low-quality artwork and bizarre storylines. |

Pokédex entries
- Sun
The spiny fur on its back is normally at rest. When this Pokémon becomes agitated, its fur stands on end and stabs into its attackers.
- Moon
The long hairs on its back act as lightning rods. The bolts of lightning it attracts are stored as energy in its electric sac.
- Ultra Sun
When it's surprised or agitated, the 14 fur spikes on its back will stand up involuntarily.
- Ultra Moon
Its capacity to produce electricity is somewhat limited, so it gets charged up by letting lightning strike it!
- Sword
With the long hairs on its back, this Pokémon takes in electricity from other electric Pokémon. It stores what it absorbs in an electric sac.
- Shield
When it's in trouble, it curls up into a ball, makes its fur spikes stand on end, and then discharges electricity indiscriminately.

Trivia
- Togedemaru has the most Egg-Moves of all Generation VII Pokémon with 9.
- In Super Smash Bros., Togedemaru is one of the Pokémon that can be freed from Poké Balls. During this time, it uses the move Zing Zap.
Origin
Togedemaru is based on a porcupine, hedgehog, or Ryukyu Spiny Rat.
Etymology
Togedemaru is the same name in every language, meaning that it has Japanese origin. It might come from "toge" (spiky), "denki" (electric), possibly "debu" (fat, referring to its chubby appearance) and "maru" (round). It could also come from "toge de maru" (spiked and round). It may also come from togenezumi, the Japanese name for the Ryukyu Spiny Rat.
Names in other languages
