Thunder is a damage-dealing Electric-type move introduced in Generation I. In Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, it is available as TM38.

Description

Games Description
GSC An attack that may cause paralysis.
RSE A lightning attack that may cause paralysis.
FRLG A brutal lightning attack that may also leave the foe paralyzed.
DPPtHGSS A wicked thunderbolt is dropped on the foe to inflict damage. It may also leave the target paralyzed.
BWB2W2 A wicked thunderbolt is dropped on the target to inflict damage. It may also leave the target with paralysis.
XYORAS A wicked thunderbolt is dropped on the target to inflict damage. This may also leave the target with paralysis.
SMUSUMPE A massive bolt of electricity is dropped down on the target. In addition, it may leave the target paralysis.

Effect

In battle

Originally, it deals damage and has a 10% chance to paralysed non electric types. It could paralyze electric types In generation II-V, but returned to being unable to paralyze electric types In Generation VI, due to the type being immune to paralysis.

In Generation II, The paralyze chance is buffed to 30%.

Thunder never misses in heavy rain, but has 50% accuracy in intense sunlight. It may also paralyze the target. It also hits Pokémon that are in the semi invulnerable turn of Fly, Bounce or Sky Drop. In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, due to a glitch Thunder has a 30% chance to bypass Protect and Detect in rain, but starting in Pokémon Platinum, Blizzard can no longer bypass them.

Its base power was nerfed from 120 to 110 In Generation VI.

Contests

Startles all Pokémon that have already appealed.

If Charge, Lock-On or Rain Dance was used before Thunder, it gives 2 extra appeal Points in Gen III.

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, if Rain Dance and Charge are used before thunder, the appeals bonus is now 3.

Super Contests

Earn +2 if the Pokémon performs first in the turn.
