Team Star is a group of rebellious students at the Naranja/Uva Academies led by Cassiopeia that appears in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet as the main antagonists in the Starfall Street storyline.
Overview[]
Founded and led by the mysterious big boss Cassiopeia and their friends and squad bosses Giacomo, Mela, Atticus, Ortega and Eri, Team Star consists of the most rebellious students from the game's academy. Defying norms, their grunts wear a modified school uniform. The helmets contain the team's signature star logo, a yellow star with a white thunderbolt streaking through it. They also wear star-shaped glasses. Their signature phrase is "Hasta la vistar", which is a combination of "Hasta la vista" (meaning “Goodbye” in Spanish) and "star".
In Pokémon Scarlet, grunts wear orange and white, while in Violet, they wear purple and white.
Male grunts wear a tie with a white star imprinted on it along with a white shirt with the signature star logo on their left shoulder. Female members wear a sleeveless shirt that lacks the star logo, but have a tie with the white star on it, as well as a pair of white kitten-heeled shoes.
The grunts serve one of five different squads, each led by a single boss. The boss has their own badge signifying their strength and being the leader of the squad. They in turn are led by a "Big Boss", although the big boss lets them do as they please as long as it respects the code, which was drafted by Giacomo.
The team code states that the big boss is unable to force the others to comply with their requests. However, to serve as a power balance, the bosses can be challenged by outsiders, during which their squad attempts to defend them in a tactic known as a "Star Barrage" - challengers have to defeat 30 of their Pokémon within a 10 minute time frame to force the boss to confront the outsider themselves. If the boss fails to defeat the challenger, they are forced to give up their badge to them and disband their squad.
Plot[]
Prior to the events of the game, Cassiopeia and their friends founded Team Star with the intent of fighting back against the students in the academy who were constantly bullying them with the faculty paying no attention to what was happening.
To fight the bullies, Eri taught the group how to partake in Pokémon battles, with her skill allowing their Pokémon to evolve and become suitable to fighting. Ortega also created the Starmobiles for him and his friends, customized Revavrooms that they could use as a platform for their Pokémon to battle on and also able to fight if the need arose. Once all the preparations were made, they confronted their bullies and declared war on them.
The bullies fled upon the first chance they saw and eventually dropped out of the academy. While Team Star had no intentions to fight, the incident caused a revelation in which they were under the threat of expulsion. Cassiopeia contacted the then-director, Harrington and took responsibility for the incident. Seeing that they had no ill intentions, Harrington "punished" Cassiopeia by sending them to "overseas study" for eighteen months, which was actually a guise for them to return to their home region of Galar to recuperate. However, they did not reveal this to their friends, who never saw them again. This declaration of war changed the academy drastically, as Harrington and the others resigned when they discovered that the deputy director erased all files on the incident, resulting in the academy's faculty being completely replaced by the current staff. The academy no longer had a bullying issue either, allowing everyone to return without getting bullied.
Due to the promise made, the bosses returned to their bases and began tending to them until their big boss could return, which in turn caused Clavell to threaten to expel them for their truancy. During the events of the game, the protagonist's skill in defeating several grunts caused Cassiopeia, who had returned from their hiatus, to enact Operation Starfall to put the team out for good, as she had wanted them to disband after the bullies had been dealt with. The protagonist discovers the bases and defeats the bosses, after which Penny reveals herself to be Cassiopeia and the leader and founder of Team Star, and requests a fight with them. The protagonist eventually defeats her, with Penny's friends discovering her true identity and seeing her in person for the first time, happy to be reunited again.
Clavell, who had been in disguise as Clive, learned the truth of the incident as the protagonist fought the bosses and voided the threat of expulsion on Team Star. However, he could not overlook their other transgressions (such as modifying academy uniforms and unauthorized usage of equipment) and thus had them serve as managers of the newly formed Star Training Centers as community service, as he had been impressed by their battling skills. The group agreed to the request.

Trivia[]
- This marks the first time an antagonistic group would have version exclusive outfits.
- Each of the 5 Bosses keeps their Pokémon in different non-standard Poké Balls: Giacomo uses Timer Balls, Mela uses Quick Balls, Atticus uses Repeat Balls, Ortega uses Luxury Balls, and Eri uses Heal Balls.
- They are also the only Pokémon Trainers other than the two professors (who use Master Balls) to keep their Pokémon in non-standard Poké Balls in Scarlet and Violet outside of the DLC.
- The bosses of Team Star are the only major battles against a human trainer (excluding the DLC), where they don't Terastallize any of their Pokémon in at least one of their battles against you. This is likely because the Pokémon League in Paldea wouldn't grant Tera Orbs to members of Team Star.
- The only exception is Cassiopeia (Penny), who has good grades, and ceased her Team Star activity long before the events of the game.
- Team Star continues the trend of the "evil teams" being redeemed by the end of the story, by ultimately being sympathetic (not evil at all, just misunderstood), and not being responsible for the major threat of the story.
- Though Team Magma/Aqua and N's half of Team Plasma and a Rocket Grunt ultimately turned good after the story concluded, they were still the main threats of their respective games.
- The Starmobiles may be based on dekotora, a kind of decorated truck from Japan.
