Early-Evening Waves (Japanese(ゆう)(なみ)HepburnYounamitrans. Evening Waves) is the 4th episode of Pokémon: Twilight Wings.

Synopsis[]

Nessa, an incredibly popular Gym Leader and model, has always strived to be the best. Her focus is split between the two professions, and Chairman Rose advises her to choose one path or the other if she truly wants to be number one. Will she sacrifice one dream in pursuit of the other?[1]

Episode plot[]

A girl watches a video, where a Drednaw uses Crunch. However, Eldegoss uses Max Overgrowth and defeats Drednaw, giving the girl, Nessa, a loss. Nessa is frustrated, and crushes the plastic cup she holds in her hands. Suddenly, she is visited by Chairman Rose, who comments how close she was to achieving victory. He shows three magazines featuring Nessa, and sees her modelling work is going good. Nessa thanks him, to which Rose places the magazines on the bench, thinking she must be busy being a Gym Leader and a model. Nessa is unsure what he means by that; Rose looks at the screen featuring Leon, and claims it depends on how high they aim their goals.

Nessa is taken aback, to which Rose closes in on her, asking if she feels the same way. At a café, Nessa is with her friend, eating cake. She is frustrated to hear that Rose insinuates that she should quit being a model. Her friend thinks Nessa is just overthinking things. Nessa refuses to believe that, to which her friend snatches the rest of her cake. She reminds it comes down to what Nessa wants to do. Nessa lowers her head, and looks at her reflection in her coffee. Later, at a lake, Nessa makes poses as a man takes photos of her. He tells they should take photos of her with Water-type Pokémon. She kneels down, touching the water, and remembers that she has been here before.

She remembers encountering a hurt Feebas when she was a girl. Neesa still advised it to push harder, to evolve and show others its power. Feebas became much happier, to which Nessa laughed, and asked if she could ride Feebas after its evolution. Thinking about that, Nessa smiles. In the lake, however, a Milotic and other Pokémon swim towards the surface. The photographer takes pictures of Nessa, Lapras and Qwilfish, and compliment her, thinking she is truly a Water-type Gym Leader. On the boat, Nessa takes a break when the director is told that they have no Water-type Pokémon left to finish the photography. Nessa spots something in the water, and quickly dives in, much to the shock of her crew.

Nessa swims to the depths with the Water-type Pokémon, and encounters a Milotic. As the crew attempts to get the camera, Nessa is amazed by the sight. Later, her friend calls her, amazed to see a photography of her riding a Milotic. Her friend is moved, as is Nessa, to encounter a wild Milotic. Her friend reminds while Milotic is a beautiful, graceful Pokémon, many forget that it is also quite powerful. She believes Nessa could be like Milotic, too: Nessa rode Milotic as they dived out and into the lake, swimming with many Water-type Pokémon. When Milotic looked at her, Nessa realized that it must've been the same Feebas she had encountered as a girl, but eventually had evolved.

Nessa walks to Chairman Rose's office. She encounters his assistant, who tells that Rose is out of the office at the moment. Nessa leans forward, asking of the assistant to tell Rose that she aims to reach the top, both as a model and as a Gym Leader. Before walking away, Nessa promises to win today's match, too. The assistant, however, looks at the drawing of Leon and Charizard. Outside, Nessa walks back to the taxi, to which its driver presumes she has done her business. Nessa smiles, and asks of him to take him to the stadium. The taxi does so, passing by a blimp that shows the video of Nessa with Milotic.

At another time, Chairman Rose's assistant presses her hands together as she speaks.
