Trivia
- Spewpa is the first cocoon Pokémon that is retains the same height as its pre-evolution, Scatterbug.
- Spewpa, along with its evolutionary relatives, are the only bug type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.
- As of Generation VI, Spewpa is the only Pokémon with one non-hidden ability that evolves both from and into one with two non-hidden abilities.
- Spewpa is the first pupa/cocoon type Pokémon in the recurring theme of "caterpillar, pupa then butterfly/moth" (like Metapod and Silcoon) Pokémon that took the least number of levels to became its final form (Vivillon), having only needing 3 level-ups (level 9 to 12) instead of 4 (level 6 to 10).
- In Super Smash Bros., Spewpa is one of the Pokémon that can be freed from Poké Balls. During this time, it uses the move Stun Spore.
Origin
Spewpa is based on a cocoon of a tapestry moth caterpillar. The larval stages eat fabrics from various objects and form cocoons out of them, possibly being the inspiration for the squares on Spewpa's body, as they resemble quilt patches. The cocoons of tapestry moth caterpillar's are also similar to Spewpa, as they form the cocoons around their bodies with their heads exposed.
Etymology
Spewpa comes from spew and pupa.
