The Soot Sack is a key item introduced in Generation III.

It allows the player to collect soot from Route 113 and Jagged PassRSE.
In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, the player collects soot by walking through the ash-covered Tall Grass. Each pile of Tall Grass gives 1 step of soot.
In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the player instead collects soot by walking through the ash piles along the route. How much soot an ash pile gives varies.
