Sonia is a character appearing in "Sword & Shield Chapter" of Pokémon Adventures.

Appearance[]

This section, or a part of it, has been transcluded from Sonia; any changes involving it should be made there instead. /

Sonia is a slender young woman with fair skin, ginger hair in a large ponytail, and turquoise eyes. She wears a tan-colored trench coat with four buttons, a teal blouse, and light blue skinny jeans. For accessories, she wears a watch on her right hand, orange sunglasses, a black purse with a white heart, and four white heart-shaped hair decorations. On her feet, she wears black and turquoise high-heeled boots with white hearts. She also wears turquoise acrylic nails.

Personality[]

Sonia is an enthusiastic girl, aspiring to become a researcher, just like her grandmother. While she was a participant of the Challenge Cup, she is slightly embarrassed when someone brings up that topic. In fact, the public saw her as taking privileges when her grandmother worked for Chairman Rose, who gave Sonia endorsement. She was depressed during battles, until her loss in Ballonlea, when she felt a relief. To avoid Pokémon battles, she decided to become a researcher of Galar legends.

Biography[]

A long time ago, Sonia participated in the Gym Challenge, but she doesn't like to speak much about it.[1] Chairman Rose was the one to have endorsed Sonia for her Gym Challenge. However, since he was working with Sonia's grandmother, Professor Magnolia, the public viewed that act as nepotism—giving her family member a favor. Still, she was a powerful Trainer, whom Leon could not defeat. Thus, she set out to win matches by relying on her skill, to prove that the rumors were false. However, the first Gym Battle in Turffield made her displeased: none of her strategies worked, despite working hard and training with Pokémon. While she did not enjoy this battle, she watched Leon's Gym Battle, finding it aspiring that he smiled as he battled. It even came as a shock that he even waved at the audience, who booed him down—at the time, Leon mistook the audience was cheering him on.

She continued on, though there were times she wanted to lose and go back home. fought each other outside stadiums. Thus, she felt relief that she didn't have to battle anymore. She eventually reached Ballonlea, where she lost her first match. Chairman Rose even approached her, comforting her and stating that people would no longer fight over her—her fans and the boo-ers sometimes Many people that she had met before—Gym Leaders like Kabu and Nessa—came to comfort her and give her advice. Listening to Kabu's stories about Legendary Pokémon of Hoenn, it made her think whether Galar region had Legendary Pokémon, and thought of the Galar legend involving the hero. With her grandmother's approval, she left Wedgehurst and enrolled into a university, becoming a researcher, rather than a Trainer.[2]

Sword & Shield arc[]

At Motostoke, Henry Sword, Casey, Marvin and Professor Magnolia heard a voice coming from the statue, as well as barking. Magnolia knew it was her granddaughter, Sonia, playing tricks on them. Sonia and her Yamper appeared, introducing herself as the professor's assistant, even if Magnolia reminded her that she rarely visited her. As Sonia explained the legend of the figure the statue represented, Professor Magnolia was annoyed by Sonia, since she learned little. Sonia defended herself, stating that she didn't have the importance to be invited as a researcher, but Magnolia stated she at had been trying when she was Sonia's age. As the opening ceremony had already finished, Henry Sword Sword proposed that they could catch up to others by entering the Gym Challenge as soon as possible. As the motorhome would not move, Magnolia saw that she would have to remain behind until the engine would be fixed. In the meantime, she let Sonia join Henry Sword Sword Sword, Casey and Marvin to reach Turffield.

Sonia was very happy, and accompanied the group. Sonia led them to Turffield's entrance, where she described it to be the place of the first Gym, led by Milo. There, they met Hop, Bede and Marnie, whom Henry Sword and Casey identified as rivals. Sonia was touched, being reminded of her own Gym Challenge. Per Sonia's suggestion, the group had the Pokémon move the boulder, clearing the way to the stadium.[1] With Henry Sword Sword's Gym Battle having been finished, he and Marvin encountered Sonia, who was searching for treasure around, near some standing stones a girl pointed out to "find onself" there. Sonia showed the boys a mural on a slope, depicting a giant and a vortex. Marvin suspected it had to do something with legend of the darkest night, to which Sonia praised him, for she was thinking of the same thing.[3]

As Nessa has finished her training, Sonia called her on the phone. Sonia told her about the challengers that faced Milo, half of whom lost the battle. Nessa was pleased, thinking she could show that she was stronger than Milo by defeating the rest of the challengers, while Sonia noticed that the two Gym Leaders saw each other as rivals. Sonia wanted to invite Nessa, so they could chat, but Nessa refused, since she was quite busy, working on her video to sponsor Hulbury town. Still, Nessa asked of her to come to her anytime.[4]

After Henry Sword won his Gym Battle, Sonia reunited with him, having received an invite for lunch with Chairman Rose. Henry Sword Sword confirmed that, while Oleana reminded that Chairman Rose was a busy man, who diverted some time to speak with them. The group separated from Marvin, and went to meet up at a restaurant with Rose, who complimented Henry Sword Sword Sword for his hard training that earned him the victory. He turned to Sonia, referring to her as "Nessa's dear friend", which made Sonia a bit nervous. Realizing that it was uncomfortable for Sonia to watch Gym matches, Rose complied not to speak any more of the subject, knowing that he is still indebted to Sonia's grandmother, Professor Magnolia.

After Chairman Rose showed a Dynamax Band, which used a Wishing Star to power it, Sonia deeply admired him, knowing that he became the chairman and the president of Macro Cosmos after his participation at the Galar League. The two were a bit concerned that there was much to learn about Dynamaxing, and was why Rose invited her and Henry Sword to Hammerlocke, where they could unveil such mysteries. Sonia was amazed, since that's where the vault was, while Rose asked of Oleana to make a schedule to visit the vault. The three sides parted ways, though soon enough, Sonia received a call from Nessa that she got defeated by Casey, to which Sonia dashed off to meet with Nessa to tell her more about it.[5]

Sonia went to Hammerlocke to the vault. However, she encountered an Oranguru and accidentally stepped on its fan, messing it quite up. This enraged Oranguru to chase after her, causing her to scream. Henry Sword and Raihan went downstairs to find her, seeing that even Yamper was chasing her. To help her, Henry Sword Sword and Raihan sent their Pokémon to attack Oranguru, who used its fan to control some of their Pokémon, and grabbed Sonia. Instead, Henry Sword Sword Sword snuck behind Oranguru and had the Pokémon bind it, so he could groom its fan to calm it down. Sonia was relieved and apologized to Oranguru for the trouble. As the matter was settled, Sonia took Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword downstairs, to show her two paintings. She reminded Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword of the statue of one hero at the Budew Drop Inn, but pointed out there were two heroes on the paintings.[6]

Sonia described the tapestries to Henry Sword, depicting two youths, who formed a kingdom: they saw a Wishing Star, used to power the Darkest Day. Sonia explained the two youths used the sword and shield to end the disaster. Henry Sword Sword wondered if the sword and shield had the connection with the hero in Budew Drop Inn, or the sword and shield he witnessed in the Slumbering Weald. As Raihan joined them, Sonia felt a connection with the geoglyph in Turffield. However, she felt she needed more evidence to prove all of this. Raihan wondered why Henry Sword Sword Sword took on the Gym Challenge, to which Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword replied that he wanted to meet the sword and shield Pokémon from the Slumbering Weald. Raihan was ecstatic that Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword met them, and believed his own strength (if not training Sou) would summon them. Sonia doubted that, thinking he needed a reason to summon them first.

Raihan wondered whether the tapestries depict the Darkest Day incident, shocking Sonia, who believed he was right. She hugged the boys, calling them as her assistants, for making such breakthroughs, even if neither Raihan nor Henry Sword didn't want to be her assistant. As Henry Sword Sword remembered that Chairman Rose hired Bede to collect the Wishing Stars, Raihan felt that Chairman Rose wanted to unleash the Darkest Day again. Sonia doubted him, but Raihan reminded that there were many Pokémon, in and outside of Galar region, who had such power, and it could've been the man's personal ambitions to destroy the region. Henry Sword Sword Sword believed they could ask the Chairman himself if he wanted to destroy the region. Raihan and Sonia laughed, wanting to see if Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword would really ask Chairman Rose that question, to see the latter's reaction. They went outside, where they met up with Casey, Marvin and Opal, the latter startling Casey.[7]

Sonia was in Hammerlocke, and felt the tremors from the power plant. She met Bede, who recognized her as the woman that accompanied Henry Sword for a while. They found Leon arguing with the security to investigate the power plant. Once Leon saw Sonia, she tried to hide behind Bede, but failed, as Leon grabbed her. The latter was warned by Raihan that he was making an uncomfortable scene for himself and Sonia, who realized she had to speak about *it*. Sonia then turned to Bede, who was trying to remove the guards out of the way to reach Chairman Rose. Sonia wondered what was the purpose of his mission to collect Wishing Stars, but Bede replied that he did not know, as he was only tasked to gather them. Bede later stormed off, as Leon and Raihan argued whether he could go to Chairman Rose or stay behind. Thus, Sonia accompanied Leon to evacuate the citizens of Hammerlocke before another shock wave would occur.[8] Sonia spoke with Leon, and later noted that it wasn't as scary as she had thought, and nearly wanted to confess something to him.

She later went near Circhester, and saw her grandmother's motorhome passing by. She wondered if they were investigating the particle leak, caused by the incident at Hammerlocke. It made her briefly think about Leon before reminding herself of her task. Knowing that there were four tapestries at Hammerlocke, she wanted to investigate a fifth one, located in a restaurant at Circhester.[9] Sonia investigated the tapestries at Uncle Bob's at Circhester. She met up with Professor Magnolia, Melony and Marvin to join with Henry Sword and Casey. After Henry Sword Sword obtained Mr. Rime from Melony, Sonia shed the news; after Bede attacked the mural, the people found out that there was a statue of two Pokémon with a sword and a shield. It made her believe that someone wanted to hide these statues and keep them hidden, to prevent the public from knowing that two Legendary Pokémon were involved in the legend. Moreover, she took the group to Uncle Bob's, where they found a piece of tapestry, which was damaged, which made her believe someone didn't want that piece to be shown.[10]

After splitting from the group, Sonia went to investigate about why the two Pokémon were excluded from the Galar legend.[11] She found out that Chairman Rose was plotting something big with two guys, who attacked Casey, which also involved the Darkest Day event. She recorded this on her camera and got out to share this info with her friends.[2] However, Chairman Rose was aware of Sonia spying on them.[12] Sonia called Professor Magnolia's group from a Corviknight taxi, being quite upset. She told the group that she found out who was involved in Casey's incident, where two people kidnapped her Pokémon and stole the Rusted Sword and Rusted Shield. Sonia told out loud she couldn't believe who the person was, and told the group to meet her at the Route 9 tunnel.

As she hung up, she examined an item she had found. From a distance, a Klinklang spotted her and shot a beam that electrocuted Sonia and the Corviknight, causing the taxi to fall down. Leon came to the tunnel, being invited by Sonia as well, but when he arrived there, he found her next to the Corviknight taxi. Before she passed out, she gave Leon an item to pass onto Professor Magnolia's group. Leon carried her when he met up with Raihan and Piers. Leon told that someone attacked her, and while she was unharmed, she needed medical attention. Since medical assistance was better in Hammerlocke, Raihan sent Flygon so he could carry Sonia with Leon and Charizard to that place. Before Leon departed, he passed the item to Piers, so he could give it to Magnolia's group.[13]

Waking up at a hospital, Sonia was greeted by Leon, who was glad to see her well. Sonia was startled, since she did not expect Leon to be there. Leon reminded her that she was attacked by two people with strange hairstyles, and was brought to Hammerlocke. Seeing that she was attacked because she recorded their meeting, Sonia was in despair that the men could attack her again, since she was the witness. Leon swore he would protect her. However, he then remembered he could never have bested Sonia, who reminded he was still the Champion. On that, Sonia apologized to Leon for running away from him. She explained her story: being disapproved by the public, since they believed she was granted a special favor from Chairman Rose, for he worked with her grandmother. She continued on, mentioning that her first Gym Battle in Turffield left her in despair, for she hadn't enjoyed that battle at all.

Looking at Leon's battle, she had been quite amazed that he had smiled as he had taken on the challenge, even as he had been at a disadvantage. Leon nearly blushed, and admitted that he had mistaken the audience cheering for him that he waved towards them, even if they yelled at him to lose. At either rate, she reminisced that she continued to battle until Ballonlea, where she had lost for the first time. However, she felt relief at that point, and had been told that the audience—divided to those that supported and disapproved of her battles—would no longer fight against each other. Leon was surprised, since he was not aware of these news before. Regardless, after a talk with Kabu, she had wanted to become a researcher, and was researching the famous Galar legend. Leon became sad, knowing that was the reason she had left. Sonia admitted she didn't want to participate in battles anymore, and felt she contradicted herself, since she had said that Wedgehurst would become the strongest town in Galar region.

Leon added that he believed in that, but now was looking at it from a different angle. He mentioned that he changed his mind, thinking that Galar region could become stronger by having strong people help the ones in need. Sonia teased Leon a bit, for he had a change of heart after becoming a Champion. Leon stated that he merely listened to Chairman Rose's speeches, and reflected on the words that Galar region could become strong by having people live without worries. He previously thought of having strong Pokémon Trainers would give prosperity, but then saw Chairman Rose take action. Sonia became frustrated, gritting her teeth that Chairman Rose helped her as well, and even Galar itself. It made her very confused as to why he then spoke to the people that attacked her. Leon gasped, for Sonia confirmed that two men were working with Chairman Rose to bring back the Darkest Day.[2] Once Henry Sword saw that Chairman Rose struck a deal with two men, who attacked him and Casey, he thought of Raihan and Sonia. It made him determined to confront Chairman Rose about the Darkest Day, for he promised that to Sonia.[14]

Sonia was at Hammerlocke when the Darkest Day occurred. Leon and Raihan defeated the rampaging Dynamaxed Pokémon, astounding Sonia. However, Nessa noticed a large being atop the tower, wondering if it, too, was a part of the Darkest Day. Sonia became concerned, as all of the events they witnessed were the Darkest Day, as the legend had described. As they tried to enter the power plant, Sonia noticed Shielbert and Sordward before they entered the facility, which sealed itself. It made her more upset to hear that they weren't even done with their plans. In order to find another entrance, the group flew on Leon's Charizard and Raihan's Flygon, eventually encountering Henry Sword, Casey and the rest of the group. After meeting up with them, the group went inside the power plant, where they saw Chairman Rose proclaiming the success of his mission.[15] Sonia and others confronted Chairman Rose, who stated that while certain crimes were committed, it was all to protect the Galar region, to accumulate Galar particles. Before Rose left, Sonia asked whether Sordward and Shielbert were of noble origin. Rose confirmed they were, but also mentioned that their family kept sources that confirmed their bloodline as a secret.[12]

The group went to the top of the power plant, where Sonia, Casey and Henry Sword encountered Sordward and Shielbert. They had a talk, where Sordward and Shielbert admitted to have planted false evidence, and hiding the real clues about the Galar legend. She did support Casey, who stated even with their attempts, they wouldn't be remembered as heroes, which upset the brothers. Upon using Rusted Sword and Shield, Sonia believed they didn't activate because of these two "phony" heroes. After the talk was over, Sonia noticed how quiet it was, and went to the top, but Nessa held her off. They watched as Eternatus shot a beam into the sky, transforming itself into its "serious mode".[16] Sonia observed as the Trainers fought against Eternatus. When Zacian and Zamazenta arrived, she compared them to the statues at Stow-on-Side, realizing they were part of the Galar legend. However, since they didn't have the sword or shield equipped, she went to Henry Sword Sword and Casey to report her findings, and to present these Pokémon with these artifacts. Henry Sword Sword Sword, however, refused, and clung on to the artifacts. Sonia gasped, seeing that Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword levitated with the artifacts, which floated to Zacian and Zamazenta, as they fought Eternatus.[17]

Just as Zacian and Zamazenta collided with Eternatus, a bright light flashed. By the time the rest of the Gym Leaders came to the top, they found everyone, including Sonia, unconscious. The group was taken to the hospital in Hammerlocke, where they were recovering. However, Sonia recovered quickly, and met up with the rest of the group, where they shared the news of what happened.[18] Sonia was at the train station with Oleana and Magnolia, watching the group depart. Sonia herself wished the group luck in their mission to find Henry Sword.[19] Henry Sword Sword later explained to Casey that she and Sonia couldn't convince Henry Sword Sword Sword to give up the artifacts even without the poison's effects, for he was focused on gears above anything else.[20] Oleana was later contacted that the cure has been delivered. She then told Sonia that Leon and the Gym Leaders were recovering, albeit Piers and Melony were not yet able to walk. Sonia inquired about certain side effects, to which Oleana briefly smiled, stating that she shouldn't be too shocked when seeing the group. Sonia went in, and was startled. She later sent the photo to the groups that went to Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra: all of the group's hair has overgrown from the cure.[21]
