Sobble (Japanese: メッソン, HepburnMesson) (SAH-bull[1]) is the Water-type First partner Pokémon of the Galar region. It is one of the three First partner Pokémon revealed for the core titles Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Sobble resembles a light blue lizard with a yellow fin on its head. Its belly and face are lighter blue than the rest of its body, with dark blue tearlike circle markings under its large, oval-shaped blue eyes. It has a long, curled tail with a darker blue tip. Its legs are skinny with small feet, all of which have no visible toes.

Behavior[]

Sobble is timid in nature. It will begin crying or turn invisible whenever it is scared, hurt, or threatened. Trainers that do not mind a challenge will be able to handle raising these timid yet clever Pokémon.

Natural abilities[]

Whenever a Sobble comes in contact with water, it will blend in with its surroundings. Its sweat also allows it to turn invisible as well. Their tears have the effect of 100 onions, so whenever Sobble cries, it makes others cry as well.

Evolution[]

Sobble evolves into Drizzile at level 16, then into Inteleon at level 35.

    Appearances[]

    Anime[]

    Goh Sobble

    Goh's Sobble.

Sobble debuted in the role of a small cameo at the end of "Toughing It Out!". It then had a major role in "Sobbing Sobble!", where it became Goh's Pokémon.

    Trivia[]

    • Sobble is the only Galar First partner Pokémon that doesn't share its category with another Pokémon.
    • Sobble is the lightest Water-type basic starter Pokémon.
    • Sobble, along with the other Galar First partner Pokémon, Scorbunny and Grookey, are the only regional First partner Pokémon that Ash Ketchum hasn't caught.
    • Despite having a Tail, Sobble cannot learn any tail attacks, like Slam, Aqua Tail, or Iron Tail.

    Origin[]

Sobble is based on a chameleon. It also resembles a basilisk lizard which are able to run across water, possibly being the inspiration for its typing.

    Etymology[]

Sobble comes from the words 'sob' (cry) and 'bubble'.

Messon may be a combination of mesomeso (Japanese onomatopoeia for sobbing) and chameleon.
