The Sky Pillar (Japanese: そらのはしら, Hepburn: Sora no Hashira) is a location introduced in Generation III.
Description[]
The Sky Pillar is a huge tower located at Route 131 in Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version and Pokémon Emerald Version. It is the only place where the player can encounter (and catch) Rayquaza. Many other species of high-level Pokémon also inhabit it, such as Dusclops and Altaria. During the conflict between Groudon and Kyogre, the player travels to Sky pillar separately with Wallace where Wallace unlocks the door so, player can meet Rayquaza at the top floor. However, it's during only this visit that some of the floor is cracked, so the player does not need a Mach Bike to reach to the top floor. After this, when the player goes to the Sky Pillar a second time, the Mach Bike is needed to climb to higher floors and is inaccessible in Ruby and Sapphire until after the Elite Four are beaten.
In Pokémon Emerald Version, it is accessible a second time after Rayquaza has been awoken by the player to confront the Groudon and Kyogre in Sootopolis City. The player does not need to challenge the Elite Four to catch it unless if they are playing Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version.
