Sky Fortress is a location in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs.

Overview[]

In ancient times, the Sky Fortress was built by Sabios using a pilfered orb powered by Pokémon energy to power it. With the power of the fortress and the golden armor, Sabios brought destruction upon the world and used Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos to erect in impenetrable barrier around the fortress. A hero with the power to connect with the hearts of Pokémon opposed him used the power of the Rainbow Grail, to summon Ho-oh and freed Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos from Sabios's control. Sabios was eventually defeated, and both the golden armor and the fortress were lost to time, the fortress ended up lying dormant inside a lake near the Oblivia Ruins. The three legendary birds were put into a deep sleep to prevent their power from reawakening the sky fortress.

In the present, the Societea managed to awaken all three legendary birds and revive the fortress. In a demonstration of their new power, the Socitea used the sky fortress's main cannon to destroy Dolce Island and have the legendary birds create another barrier to protect it from infiltration by Pokémon Rangers. The Player learns how the barrier was destroyed in the past and history is repeated when they use the Rainbow Grail to destroy the fortress's barrier and they and the Partner infiltrate the fortress. After Kasa, Arley, and Hocus are defeated and the Rangers (including Rand and Nema who infiltrated the fortress as well) confront Ed "The Thinker", he threatens to destroy Renbow Island like he did to Dolce Island, but Rand reveals he disabled the weapon with one of Nema's inventions. After Edward and later Purple-Eyes, the latter wielding the full set of the golden armor he stole from the Societea, are defeated, the golden armor scatters itself across the region and it's control over the fortress is lost, senting it plummeting into the ocean. The impact of the falling fortress threatens to swallow all of Oblivia in a tidal wave, but the Player manages to summon Ho-oh again and use its power to harmlessly lower the fortress into the ocean. In the Post Game, the Sky Fortress continues to float harmlessly on the ocean's surface and can be explored, though an early section is cut off due to it being flooded.

In the event mission "Pledge to Arceus", Arceus and the creation trio arrive at the fortress and their presence create distortions in reality. It is revealed that Arceus's anger over being used by Ellios in the past has been reawakened after the return of the sky fortress. Arceus is prepared to destroy the fortress and the entire Oblivia reason which housed it, but it is talked down by the Rangers who came in investigate the distortions. However, Purple-Eyes appears and reignites Arceus's fury by asking it to erase humanity and wiping the slate clean. Arceus is captured by the Player and its wrath is soothed once again when the Rangers promise the fortress that caused it so much pain will be never used again. Arceus spares the region and disappears, taking Purple-Eyes with it until he truly reforms.
