Simisear (Japanese: バオッキー, Hepburn: Baokkii) (SIH-mee-seer) is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Biology

Physiology

Simisear is a bipedal monkey-like Pokémon. Most of its fur is fiery reddish in color, and it has yellowish tan fur on its face, belly, fingers, and toes. It has ovular eyes with black pupils, a round black nose, and long rounded ears (with orange insides) that are quite large compared to the size of its head. Unlike its pre-evolution, Pansear, Simisear has more hair atop its head; the tufts of red fur on its head resemble flames. Its thin arms protrude from shoulders that are covered in fluffy white fur that resemble clouds of steam, alluding to its fiery, volcanic nature. It has a thick furry red tail that resembles a swirling flare of red flames. It also has a plump, rounded belly that is mostly a yellowish-tan; the lower part of its belly is red with a zigzagging pattern separating it from the tan fur on its upper belly.

Behavior

Simisear is a very hot-tempered Pokémon that is easily angered. It also loves to eat sweets because the sugars fuel the fire blazing inside its belly and helps to provide the Pokémon with sufficient energy for battle. When it becomes distraught, embers rise from its head and tail, which rapidly increase in temperature.

In addition, Simisear are very enthusiastic Pokémon. They will often approach foreigners entering their territories, holding out handfuls of Berries as peace offerings.In artificial settings, Simisear have been shown to be intelligent enough to grow and harvest their own Berries if provided with the necessary tools and instructions. However, they appear to only be willing to farm their own food if no other options are available; they will let their crops wither as soon as a more available food source appears.

Natural abilities

A flame burns inside its belly (much like Pignite), and eating sweets fuels this internal flame. It scatters the embers that sprinkle from its head to sear its opponents in battle.

Simisear is the evolved form of Pansear by use of a Fire Stone.

Trivia

• Simisear, along with Simisage and Simipour and their respective pre-evolutions are the only Pokémon able to get the abilities solely used by the starter Pokémon. Simisear gains the ability Blaze, previously only attained by Fire-type starters.
• Chili's hairstyle slightly resembles that of Simisear's.
• Simisear placed last in a poll to determine which Pokémon were the most popular to be distributed for the movie, Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel.

Origin

Simisear is based on a monkey and a flame. Along with the other elemental monkeys, it seems to be based on the Three Wise Monkeys, with Simisear representing "hear no evil", represented by how it has large ears with the flame pattern on them appearing as though they are covering them.

Etymology

Simisear comes from simian and sear (to burn or scorch).
