Sheer Cold (ぜったいれいど Absolute Zero) is a Ice-type move introduced in Generation III.

Effect

In Battle

The foe is attacked with a blast of absolute-zero cold. The foe instantly faints if it hits, unless it's protected from One-hit KOs thanks to Sturdy, Focus Band or Focus sash. It won't knock out a target behind a substitute, or a target with Wonder Guard that doesn't have a type disadvantage against Ice-type.

The accuracy of Sheer Cold is variable, and can be calculated by the following formula: (Lvl User - Lvl Target) + 30. If the difference between the levels of the user and the target is 70 or higher, Sheer Cold will always hit. If the user and target have the same level, the accuracy will be 30%. Sheer Cold's chances of hitting cannot be altered by accuracy or evasion modifiers, but will always hit if any of the Pokémon in battle have No Guard, or if Lock On or Mind Read is active.

It will fail if the target has a higher level than the user.

Contests
