Trivia[]

  • Her birth name was 「中川 しようこ」Nakagawa Shiyōko, as her parents initially intended to name her 薔子 based on their appreciation of roses (薔薇), but due to her and her mother being in the hospital at the time, her maternal aunt filed her birth registration on their behalf. 「薔子」 was rejected due to not being in the list of jōyō or jinmeiyō kanji approved for names at the time, and since her name was written in hiragana 「しょうこ」 upon arguing and frustration, the small yo (「ょ」) accidentally ended up being printed in full size and her name was registered as 「しうこ」.[1]
