The sixth season of the Pokémon anime, retroactively titled Pokémon: Advanced by official sources, features the last 12 episodes from the Pokémon: Master Quest subtitle and all 40 episodes from the Pokémon: Advanced subtitle in which Ash Ketchum and his friends Misty and Brock's journey in Johto continues in Mt. Silver, following the conclusion of the Larvitar arc as he faces off in the Silver Conference and against his rival, Gary; after Brock and Misty go their separate ways, Ash and Pikachu sail to the faraway Hoenn region and start their travels with May and Max, who are later rejoined by Brock as they adventure through Hoenn from Littleroot Town to Mauville City.
It is continued by Pokémon: Advanced Challenge, the seventh season of the Pokémon anime; every season from 7 and onward use the same divisions as the subtitles and opening themes. Re-releases starting with the late 2016 addition of the series on Watch Disney XD shorten it to the last 40 episodes (with the first 12 episodes of this season becoming the 53rd-64th episodes of Season 5) to remain consistent with the beginning of Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire.
