The second season of the Pokémon anime (known when it first aired simply as Pokémon, and retroactively titled Pokémon: Adventures in the Orange Islands by official sources) features 27 episodes from the Pokémon: Indigo League arc and 25 episodes from the Pokémon: Adventures in the Orange Islands arc in which Ash Ketchum and his friends, Misty and Brock continue their travels through Kanto, with Ash finally earning the rest of the badges and challenging the Indigo League. He and Misty then head to Ash's next destination, the Orange Islands, where they meet Tracey Sketchit and start traveling with him.
It is continued by Season 3, the second season of the Pokémon: Adventures in the Orange Islands arc which includes the entirety of the Pokémon: The Johto Journeys arc. "Princess vs. Princess" and "The Purr-fect Hero" were held over from Season 1. Re-releases of the series starting with the late 2016 addition of the series on Watch Disney XD extend it to 60 episodes (63, including the banned Jynx episodes) to include the Season 3 portion of the Orange Islands arc, ending with "The Rivalry Revival", which falls under the series Pokémon the Series: The Beginning.
