Sawk (Japanese: ダゲキ, Hepburn: Dageki) (SAWK) is a Fighting-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V. He is Throh's counterpart.

Biology

Physiology

Sawk is a humanoid Pokémon with blue skin. He sports a light blue Gi, a traditional uniform for training and contests in many martial arts. He has two, three-toed feet and he has a very big, bushy, eyebrow on the left side of his face.

Behavior

Sawk is a very stern and secluded Pokémon that is takes his martial arts training very seriously. He will become angered if disturbed in the midst of his training. They tend to seclude themselves in mountains and train without even stopping to rest.

Evolution

Sawk does not evolve.

Trivia

• Sawk and Throh can be viewed as the "Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan" of the Unova Region, Sawk is basically the Hitmonlee of Unova because Karate moves are used for Attack.

Origin

Sawk is based on a karate master.

It may also be based on blue oni from Japanese mythology, as an interview stated that Throh and Sawk originally had horns, but they were changed into eyebrows to avoid a mix up with the Forces of Nature trio's Thunderus and Tornadus, who also had this origin.

Sawk along with Throh may also be based on the Ashinaga-tenaga, a pair of yokai one of which has long arms and the other has long legs with Sawk representing the longed legged of the pair.

Etymology

Sawk is a misspelling of sock (to punch).
