Chapter plot[]

Casey finds that the readings are coming from the a nearby tower. They do ponder about it, thinking the railway station and the dojo were the only buildings on the island. They still have to cover 50% of the island to find the Rusted Sword and Shield. Marvin is sad there's a lot of it left to explore, but Henry Sword points out at least they didn't have to do the entire island. As it was getting dark, the group decided to continue in the morning, so they return to the dojo. At dinner, everyone wonders where Klara and Avery are and were told of what's happening at the station. Suddenly, an email from Oleana came up, she said the sap was delivered and an antidote was successfully created, by two fellas that wanted to "boost their image". Honey stops Mustard from playing a video game to get him to come to the table, reminding that he is the Dojo master and should take a sit. The two hear knocking on the door: Avery and Klara collapsed with exhaustion. Mustard realizes that they have restarted their first trial: chasing three fast Slowpokes to get their gi back. The two are too exhausted to say anything, but Mustard understands that they decided to do it tomorrow and have dinner with the rest of them.

In Hammerlocke, Oleana tells Sonia that some of the gym leaders are recovering faster than others, but there were some side effects. Sonia is supicious, and is told not to be too shocked by the sight. Sonia comes in to see Leon, and becomes startled. A moment later, Freezington, Hop has received the photo from Sonia about the recovery. He shares the photo with Marnie and Bede, and the trio becomes shocked to see everyone has very long hair. Sordward and Shieldbert have that hair too, they were at the police station hoping for interviews. The next morning, Klara and Avery resume their trial: chasing Slowpoke to obtain their outfits. Honey tells Henry Sword that the two are their most promising students, but they stopped taking their training seriously and began slacking off. Before the group went back to the tower, Honey heard them and asked which. They spoke about the one on the hill, to which Honey adds that tower is Tower of Darkness, though she is hesitant on them going there, she concedes without telling why.

Once they get there, Casey flies her Vikavolt drone to the roof. However, something there crushes the drone and destroys it. A female student at the doorway then tells them that tower is build Kubfu's strength and they could only go to highest floor through gradual training. Marvin is very upset, for they are in a hurry to save Galar region. Mustard comes by and wonders which is more important: people, Pokémon, or the planet. He's not sure whether little things should be sacrificed to save bigger things, claiming that it is not known whether people and Pokémon responsible for the crisis could be protected. As a former gym leader and champion, Mustard knows that some levels can't be reached without practice and/or discipline. He thought it would be interesting to observe the bonds formed and crossed fortunes. Despite Henry Sword and Kubfu aren't close to each other yet, he'll allow the two of them to train to the top, but they have to defeat the girl first.

Henry Sword decides to accept the challenge and battle the trainer guarding the door first. Unfortunately, she uses an Impidimp: Marvin complains but Casey stops him worrying that it will only make things worse for Kubfu. Impidimp fires a Dark Pulse to strike Kubfu, then leans on it and uses Play Rough. The Wushu Pokémon ultimately loses the battle, as the group leaves Mustard apologizes to the trainer, she is from Ballonlea and actually wanted to let them through to save her hometown, but rules are rules. The trainer then whispers something to Mustard, which surprises him. Casey isn't worried about her destroyed drone, as she has an app on her Rotomphone that can detect the Rusted Sword and Shield too. Henry suggests the search the Training Lowlands and apologizes to Kubfu for putting him through that fight. He sees a Tauros and starts battling it, prompting Henry and Casey to train him for an upcoming rematch.

Upon returning to the dojo, they find that Klara and Avery successfully completed their first trial: they are wearing the Dojo outfits. Avery and Klara patronize each other, but Mustard states their second trial is tomorrow. Mustard notices that Kubfu has taking a liking to Henry Sword: it pays attention to Henry's emotions and expressions after having a number of battles. Later that night, Kubfu secretly sneaks onto the roof of the Tower of Darkness. While it doesn't find any entrance to the tower, it instead comes face-to-face with what crushed Casey's drone.
