Swaying!! Murky Memories (Japanese: ユラユラ!! 記憶(きおく)(かが)HepburnYurayura!! Kioku no Kagetrans. Flicker!! Figure in the Memory) is the 2nd chapter of Pokémon Adventures: Volume 4 (SWSH).

Synopsis[]

The three Gym challengers have defeated the Circhester Gym Leaders, and move onto Spikemuth. Hop joins Marnie, and the two discuss their relations with their siblings. Henry Sword, however, tests out his new bike extension to train with Kayne, who has joined his team. Marvin returns to the motorhome with Casey, who has a sudden revelation about the events at the Slumbering Weald.

Chapter plot[]

Henry Sword has defeated Melony in the Gym Battle's second half, using Mr. Rime to win so far. However, Mr. Rime's attacks nearly hit Melony, too, who managed to dodge, but the commentator reminds this is the will of Mr. Rime to win the outcome. After Henry's victory, Marnie faced Gordie and Hop battled Melony, and the two trainers won the Gym Battle. Hop is passing by, noting he has to go to Spikemuth next. Suddenly, he is greeted by Marnie, who proposes they could go to Spikemuth together. Hop is startled, and Marnie adds she wanted Henry to join them, but he went off ahead already. Hop calms down, and replies he could go with her if it is not too much trouble. Marnie sighs, reminding herself it's tough to be in the same place as one's siblings. Hop doesn't mind that, so Marnie reminds him that he was the Champion's brother, Leon, and since he never mentioned him, Marnie felt that he disliked him. Hop disagrees, and heartily shouts that he is Leon's biggest fan in the world, and wants to be like him. It makes Marnie wonder if he was too weak to battle Leon so he could endorse him, which makes Hop a bit upset by her blunt responses.

Hop admits that he simply turned Leon's offer down. He wonders if he had a bad battle, it might make his brother bad, too, and would simply make his endorsements look bad, too. Hop admits that he could be mocked, but he'd never permit his brother to be mocked because of his failure. Marnie smiles a bit, seeing Hop is much like her. Hop wonders about her brother, thinking he is a part of the Gym Challenge. Marnie confirms that, but he and the people from her hometown are worried about her. She remarks that the outcome of her success is reflected on her big brother and her hometown. She admits it is a lot of pressure, and Hop understands the way she is feeling. Hop remembers when Leon took on the Gym Challenge, he had a friend with him on the way, who never won a single Pokémon battle since they were young. He remembers Leon had stated that he'd become the strongest in Galar region, but his friend also wanted to be a part of that dream, to show that their hometown, Wedgehurst, was the strongest one in Galar region. However, after the challenger lost to Opal, the former gave up, and lost contact with Leon for a long while. Hop started to sense that Leon hid his negativity after that, out of conflict towards his friend giving up.

Hop clenches his hands, telling Marnie that Leon is still supportive towards Hop, even after the latter turned down his endorsement, and is why he doesn't want to be a burden to him. Hop sees he got carried away here a bit, but asks Marnie why does she want him and Henry Sword to accompany her. Marnie exclaims without her, they won't be able to get near Spikemuth. At Ballonlea, Hop is battling a challenger, while Opal is observing them. Hatenna attacks the challenger's Slurpuff, and just as Bede goes to make his finishing move, the challenger interrupts him with a question. The challenger asks about Fairy-type weaknesses. Bede says Poison-type, and as he goes to say more, his Hatenna gets attacked by Slurpuff. Bede becomes furious, being tricked like that, but Opal presses a button on the remote to show Bede's reaction. Opal shows that Bede got arrogant by answering the person's question, which annoys Bede. However, Opal reminds that these aren't even Gym Challenges, but battles to train Bede to become a Gym Leader, so he should know when to be alert and when to drop his guard like that.

Still, Opal admits that Bede is honest, a part that the chairman had overlooked. Bede cuts the talk, asking of Opal to get to the point. Opal sees he is right, but asks for a break to have Bede heal his Hatenna. As Opal walks away, she remembers that Hatenna usually runs off when it senses strong emotions from its trainer, and yet this one stayed with Bede, being attached to him. In fact, she offered Bede to take the position of the Gym Leader, and didn't expect of him to accept, even after reminding of intense training. Still, despite his arrogance and big mouth, Opal senses that this is Bede's way to defend himself, and should accept his way. She sees despite his rough behavior, he still is kind with Pokémon. It makes her wonder why Chairman Rose treated him like that, for he knew well of Bede's behavior. Feeling that Rose would be dishonest in talking with someone as old as Opal, the latter goes to talk with younger Gym Leaders. At the motorhome, Casey notes that Mr. Rime tried to attack Melony, for it still didn't like her. Henry Sword reminds there wasn't much time left to bond, so they had to give their best in battle to build trust.

Marvin wonders if he'll nickname it. Henry Sword confirms that, and wondered about Kayne, but it is a similar name to Stickyn. Casey suspects he'll name it after its gear, as Canyn. Henry doesn't like that name much, and decides to stick with Kayne after all, which displeases Casey. As they are heading by a highway, Marvin asks how will he train. Since there is only water around the highway, Marvin thinks of using Surf to get around. Henry doubts that, thinking Marvin comes from a region where people use Pokémon to get around. Instead, he shows the Rotom Bike: he rides on it and goes into the water, inflating itself to go around it. Marvin is astounded, and he never figured out that the bike could do that. Casey explains it really can't, for the man that gave Henry the bike thought of it, as Casey gave him this idea. Marvin realizes that all the noise they made the past few nights in their workshop was them working on the bike. Henry admits it's great to be riding the bike this way, but a Mantyke appears and attacks Henry Sword. Henry asks if there is a function to deter wild Pokémon: Casey denies that, reminding him that he still needs to train. Henry sees that, and sends Kayne to battle the wild Pokémon.

Casey and Marvin return to the motorhome, where Casey got a message from Sonia. She checks on the tapestries from the vault and from Uncle Bob's place. With Peta back, Casey can remember more things, and looking at the tapestries, thinks about a shape of a sword and a shield. She zones out, scaring Marvin, who asks for the professor to come. Henry Sword has battled his way near Spikemuth, but a Pokémon nearly attacks him and his bike. Henry identifies it to be a Clobbopus, who investigates things by punching at them. He sends v, who is warned not to get hit by its Fighting-type attacks. Mr. Rime emits a psychic attack, which causes Clobbopus to retreat into the water. Henry, however, sees that Clobbopus hit the tire and deflated it. Mr. Rime steps in and uses ice to patch the hole, pleasing Henry, who thinks of a way to repair it. Moments later, he rides his bike, evading a bunch of Clobbopus, fearing they'll attack his bike, too. He sees the motorhome and enters it, being greeted by Casey. Casey shouts that she remembered a guy that took her Pokémon in the Slumbering Weald. In fact, she remembers two guys' silhouettes, and then mentions "celebrity".
