Crunch!! Snowy Battle (Japanese: ザクザク!! 雪上のバトル, Hepburn: Zakuzaku!! Setsujou no Batoru, trans. Crunch!! Battle in the Snow) is the 6th and final chapter of Pokémon Adventures: Volume 3 (SWSH).
Synopsis[]
Meeting up with Gym Leader Melony, Henry Sword accepts her job to repair her Mr. Rime's cane. He and Marvin are visited by the other Gym Leader, Gordie, who wants to have a friendly match with Henry, but instead takes Marvin on. However, Gordie suddenly falls ill, and as the cane is taken by a group of Eiscue, Henry goes after them with Casey, who has an idea where the Eiscue are going to.
Chapter plot[]
At Circhester, Casey has Tera and Kilo swim in the Hero's Bath, and notices they are pleased with the warm water. Casey is envious, wanting to go in, to which Magnolia reminds that the bath is meant for the Pokémon to enter, even if the Hero entered first heal the fatigue. She notices even Raboot is comfortable with the steam, since it can't enter the bath, being a Fire-type Pokémon. She asks Casey for patience, for they could reunite with Henry Sword and Marvin soon and go to Hotel Ionia, where their bath is waiting. Casey is nevertheless surprised that Henry has taken Melony's gear to fix, and that she asked him to. She is reminded that like on Stow-On-Side, Circhester also has two Gym Leaders, so if Henry chooses not to battle Melony, he could face the other one. Still, Magnolia remembers that Melony entrusted them with a Pokémon using a gear, which won't come out. In fact, she sees that Henry is merely helping Melony, but not to give her an advantage in the Gym Battle.
At Steamdrift Way, Henry Sword and Marvin are in a tent in a snowy environment, studying the Pokémon, called Mr. Rime. Marvin doesn't recognize this Pokémon, and believes it to be a regional variant from Mr. Mime. Marvin wonders why it won't come out of its Poké Ball, to which Henry identifies the cause of it being its ice cane broken. Marvin is surprised, and is shown a crack in the cane. Sou notes that he will have to repair the cane, seeing that it wasn't enough that it got put back together when it broke, and hopes that to be enough for Mr. Rime to come out. Henry goes to place the cane in the snow, so the cold should fill in the crack to let Mr. Rime harden the cane even further. Henry gives the cane to Marvin, so he turns it around to fill the crack with snow. While the cane has gotten some snow, Henry reminds they have to repeat the process, before he can remove the excess snow to harden the cane. He reminds he'll have to also adapt the cane to Mr. Rime's height and arm length, so Mr. Rime has to come out at one point.
Since this should take a while, Henry Sword lets Marvin enter the tent, while he remains behind to fix the cane. Suddenly, Marvin hears someone sneezing behind him. He turns around, and a man emerges from the snow, introducing himself as Circhester's Gym Leader Gordie. Gordie wants to ask Henry for an unofficial match, since he will challenge the other Gym Leader, for whom he is repairing the cane for. However, he notices it will take a while for him to repair it. Henry explains that he hasn't yet decided whom to challenge, but Gordie claims that he would certainly like to battle someone whom he had repaired the gear for. Henry sees he is right, and accepts Gordie's challenge, which pleases Gordie to face against the Trainer, who got the Champion's endorsement. He also wanted to ask Sou after he finished maintaining the gear, but starts to sneeze. Henry sees he'll catch a cold if he'll make him wait, and instead asks Marvin to face Gordie.
Marvin feels insulted by this, but Henry Sword reminds that this way they'll at least respect his wish. Marvin decides to do so, to which Gordie accepts, feeling that he'll have to take on the challenge or rumors that he's spreading lies would roam around his fans. Gordie sends a Stonjourner, and explains he is a Rock-type expert. Marvin sends SNiffler out, who has the type advantage. Sniffler fires a Water Gun, but the water freezes itself from the low temperature. Thus, Stonjourner retaliates with using Stomp, but Sniffler dodges. Marvin is nevertheless alarmed by Stonjourner's strong power, and Henry reminds him of Stonjourner's weight. Marvin notices its stable legs, and makes a plan to throw it off-balance. Sniffler jumps away from Stonjourner, who starts moving towards it. Sniffler then places watery bubbles, which freeze, and as Stonjourner goes on them, it falls down. Gordie, however, smiles, as Stonjourner uses Rock Slide on the ground to maintain its balance.
Stonjourner goes to use Heavy Slam, but a berry hits its eye. Casey yells at Gordie (with her Raboot having kicked the berry), for what did they did to him for him to be attacking them. Casey comes to Henry Sword, and sees he is busy with repairing the cane. He takes out his Twiggy, and combines Raboot and SNiffler for a combo attack. Raboot fires Heat Wave, which lets Twiggy use Poke Branch to create holes in the ground. Sniffler fires Water Gun into the holes, which strike Stonjourner, causing it to fall down. Gordie is pleased, for he fought against Casey, who was endorsed by the Champion, too, even if she lost in Ballonlea. He also thanks Marvin for fighting valiantly. Casey wonders what is going on, and asks Henry, who is sad that the cane nearly melted from these attacks. Marvin goes to explain to Casey, who later apologizes for the trouble she caused, as she believed he was attacking Marvin and Henry. Gordie dismisses that, for he is still motivated by her passions.
Casey explains that Raboot felt there was trouble, so they went from the Hero's Bath to here. It surprises Marvin, since it must've felt that Sniffler was in trouble. Gordie reminds them of the Dynamax incident, and explains that nobody is suspecting Casey and her Dynamax Simulator. In fact, he adds that Dynamax particles were detected in Hammerlocke, too, and such an incident could've occurred there. Marvin feels relieved towards Casey, who is a bit disappointed she won't have to disguise herself anymore. Gordie asks Henry Sword for a battle, who accepts. He asks of Casey and Marvin to watch over Mr. Rime and the cane, but notices that the cane has disappeared. He sees a number of Eiscue must've stolen it, so he sends Twiggy to grab it, but the latter is surrounded by Eiscue. Twiggy is overwhelmed, as Eisue fire an Ice attack, freezing it. Henry panics a bit, since Melony entrusted him with the cane, and goes after it. Marvin decides to accompany him, but notices Casey's blank stare.
Marvin asks Henry Sword what to do, but he already dashed off after Eiscue. He turns to Gordie, but the latter sneezes even more, and Marvin senses that he got a fever from being underdressed in the cold environment, and got doused by Sniffler's Water Gun. He starts wondering what to do, seeing the sleeping bags are too big for him. He and Raboot pull Gordie into the tent, and Marvin goes to call the professor. He steps outside, but notices Casey has disappeared, too. Henry is on a hill, observing the Eiscue. He doubts they have stolen the cane to use it as a toy, but instead are taking it with great care. He wants to observe their movements first, but gets startled by Casey, who runs to him. Casey explains she can remember their movements, as she has been here before. Henry realizes that she has remembered something about Pokémon, to which Casey adds that they are all going to the place where she met her Eiscue, Peta.
Elsewhere, Sonia passes by, and notices her grandmother's motorhome driving by her. She wonders if they are investigating the particle leak. She remembers due to the incident, she got to talk with Leon, which wasn't as scary as she had thought, and nearly wanted to "let it all out". She slaps herself, thinking about her next task: investigating the four tapestries from the vault, she found a clue about a fifth one in the restaurant she is about to enter.
