Chomp!! It's Dracovish (Japanese: ガブガブ!! あいつはウオノラゴン, Hepburn: Gabugabu!! Aitsu wa Uonoragon, trans. Chomp-Chomp!! That One is Dracovish) is the 5th chapter of Pokémon Adventures: Volume 3 (SWSH).
Synopsis[]
Casey takes on Opal next, using Tera to Gigantamax. Unfortunately, she ends up losing to Opal's Alcremie, officially being knocked out of the Gym Challenge as a result. After the battle, the group goes over to investigate the trouble with a Pokémon Dynamaxing outside a Power Spot. Much to their surprise, they find a band of Trainers trying to eliminate the Pokémon, Dracovish. Marvin becomes annoyed, and makes a clever distraction to catch it.
Chapter plot[]
Marvin is shocked at the news of a Pokémon Dynamaxing outside its Power Spot, and asks Magnolia how is this even possible. The latter explains that she never heard or read about this phenomenon before. However, she has a clue on it, and believes Marvin knows of it, too: Casey's Dynamax simulation. Marvin wonders where she is, and the group sees on a screen that she sent her Tera out to confront Opal in a Gym Battle. Henry Sword thinks that Casey used her simulator on Route 9. Marvin suspects it was either for training or to scare people away. He doubts she used for malicious purposes, but the professor reminds that she had to explain herself if that is the case. They wonder how did she even get to the stadium, before a voice states that they had seen Casey. The group sees Marnie, along with Team Yell.
She speaks that she went to Stow-On-Side to battle Allister, but since he was absent, she had to fight against Bea instead, and were at a disadvantage. After the battle, she heard that Team Yell wanted to fight Allister because of his absence, and found that Allister and Casey did defend themselves against Team Yell. Marnie scolded the grunts, as did her Morpeko, and the group went to Ballonlea's Stadium. Team Yell grunts remind that they want to destroy the competition to have Marnie win the entire Gym Challenge, while Henry Sword nods to the professor, as they can continue watching Casey's match. Casey battles against Gigantamax Alcremie, so she Dynamaxes her Tera. Much to her surprise, she sees that Tera can Dynamax into Gigantamax Toxtricity, so she immediately has it use G-Max Stun Shock. The attack poisons Gigantamax Alcremie, causing it to take a lot of damage.
Gigantamax Alcremie fires G-Max Finale to strike Tera. Casey stands proud, for the damage from this attack is highly reduced. However, Casey turns around, as Opal mentions it is not a real battle if she anticipates the battle would go her way. Tera becomes confused, and falls down, defeated. Casey thus loses at her fifth Gym Challenge match, and Opal adds that she has failed. Later, driving at Route 7, Casey becomes very disappointed that she lost, thinking if she had won, she could continue asking people on TV if they had seen her Pokémon. Henry Sword promises to do that in her stead, which makes her glad, and she opts to help the group to investigate the Route 9 tunnel.
At the location, Marvin and Henry Sword, the latter in disguise, sneak near the tunnel to avoid getting caught. Henry reminds if they get caught, Henry is already in disguise, so his reputation would be preserved. He turns the antenna on, to gather information. Magnolia and Casey, the latter in disguise as well, collect information, noting that the Dynamaxing reported in the news was true. They suspect that this place temporarily became a Power Spot. Casey wonders if the incident at the power plant had something to do with this, but Magnolia is unsure, since Chairman Rose denied any involvement with the incident, but she has her doubts. Magnolia asks the boys if there is someone else there.
Suddenly, they hear a group of rubberneckers. They have a Steelix battle the Dynamax Dracovish, who is grasped by its tail. However, Dracovish bites Steelix's tail. Marvin doubts that will help, as Steelix's body is made from steel and is quite hardened. However, Steelix flinches and releases Dracovish, due to the latter's powerful jaws. The group sees they have to dispose of Dracovish, since they can't catch it. Marvin is angered by these words, and decides to catch it himself: he sends Sniffler, who uses Tearful Look. Sniffler drops some of its tears and throws them at the crowd and Steelix. The tears cause everyone to become distracted, as they, too, start crying. Once the group comes to their senses, they see Dravoish has disappeared.
At the motorhome, Marvin shows that he had captured Dracovish, and remarks how scary it must've been to become gigantic in a dark tunnel, as it was slamming itself against the wall. He wonders where he could release it, but Casey adds that it doesn't live anywhere. Marvin is surprised, to which Casey blanks out for a second, before finishing her sentence - in a normal tone, instead of her loud one - that Dracovish isn't a Pokémon that exists in the wild. Henry Sword notices that Casey had remembered something: back at the Slumbering Weald, she knew a lot about Pokémon. However, after losing her team, she forgot much about Pokémo and could not remember anything about them. Henry initially thought that she had "locked away her knowledge" so she could remember the Pokémon she had lost, but now with Kilo and Tera retrieved, her knowledge is returning.
Casey admits she didn't notice that, and reminds Henry Sword he could've told her that. Henry felt that it'd be cruel to point out how much she had forgotten. However, neither of them can't remember what happened after the flash in the Slumbering Weald. Marvin believes they will remember once they retrieve more of Casey's Pokémon. Since they can't figure out what to do with Dracovish, Henry and Casey suggest Marvin to keep it on his team. Marvin accepts, and nicknames Dracovish as 'Dracie'. Marvin goes to send Dracie out to heal it, but Casey screams not to. Marvin already sent it out, and due to Dracie's 2,3 meters height, it is too much for the motorhome, which is 2 meters high. The professor stops the motorhome immediately, and scolds the group, reminding not to send any tall Pokémon inside the motorhome, to which the group apologizes.
The group sent to capture Dracovish bows down before Oleana, as they failed in their mission. Oleana sees they have to report to Chairman Rose about their failure, and has one of the team members sent in Wyndon. At evening, Marvin rides Dracie outside, with the motorhome following them. Marvin remarks how fast Dracie is, but wants to push it a bit further. Casey reminds Marvin that it has to either call in its Poké Ball or have it enter a river, since Dracie can't breathe on land. Casey mentions to Magnolia that Marvin has become a bit of a rascal. The professor comments that in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, children can become shy, but once they are treated with kindness, it is not uncommon that their "wild" nature comes out. She remarks that it isn't bad for Marvin to be like this, for it can help Marvin and Dracie - who are in the river - to grow and expand their abilities.
Henry Sword admits that he saw Marvin grow as well, due to his Sniffler, which can create watery bombs. Casey feels that Henry contributed to his growth, as Marvin helped Henry in his training before the Gym matches. She even suggests Henry to take Marvin as his gear apprentice. Suddenly, the group stops, as Marvin found a "customer" for Henry, to use his gear services. The woman, Melony, asks of him to improve her ice cape. Magnolia remarks that this is Melony, and Casey adds that she's Circhester's Gym Leader. Marvin is in shock, for this is the Gym Leader Henry Sword will face next. Henry takes on the job, but Melony has trouble in believing this is Henry. Henry realizes he forgot about his disguise, so he and Casey take their disguises off.
