Teary!! The Voice of the Master (Japanese: ウルウル!! 師の呼び声, Hepburn: Uruuru!! Shi no Yobigoe, trans. Misty-eyed!! Master's Call) is the 1st chapter of Pokémon Adventures: Volume 3 (SWSH).
Synopsis[]
Henry Sword continues his battle against Allister. The latter's Gigantamax Gengar has the power to summon souls from the afterlife, leading Henry to confront his master, who is his father. Bede, who has watched this battle, goes to excavate Wishing Stars from the town's mural, and gets approached by Chairman Rose and his assistants. However, they didn't come on friendly terms, and the outcome does not go in Bede's favor.
Chapter plot[]
Allister declares Max Ooze: the Poison-type attack surrounds Oranguru, shocking Casey and Marvin. Henry Sword has Oranguru dodge the attack, and nearly got hit by it. The announcer revises the situation: Gigantamax Gengar is on the field, and while that is Allister's final Pokémon, Henry cannot switch out his Dynamax Oranguru, due to it being affected by G-Max Terror. Henry is in trouble, thinking he could wear Gigantamax Gengar from using its three moves before reverting to its original form. He thinks of improving Oranguru's fan, but then starts thinking he shouldn't always rely on its weapon. Suddenly, a voice tells him that simply relying on the weapon alone will not bring any improvement. Henry turns around, as the voice continues: Henry starts thinking it is his master.
Casey and Marvin are uncertain why Henry Sword isn't fighting back. Suddenly, Bede appears, noting how much damage Oranguru has taken. He points out that Max Ooze has a similar effect to Venoshock, and despite Oranguru was not poisoned (and therefore didn't take extra damage), Gigantamax Gengar's strength does give the move some power. Bede believes despite Gengar being able to use only one move, Oranguru will not withstand another hit. He starts wondering if Henry is just taking things lightly, since he has another Pokémon on his team, despite being able to use a super-effective move against Gengar. Bede remarks Henry still hasn't researched his opponent, and this has now just costed him. Bede leaves, seeing he was wrong about Henry's capabilities.
Casey shows her RotomDex: Gigantamax Gengar can show apparitions to steal people's lives. The announcer believes, too, that Henry Sword is hearing someone close to him in Gigantamax Gengar's mouth. The master apparition explains to Henry that despite a sword being able to shatter any defense and any shield being able to deflect any attack, it is not enough on its own. The apparition reminds Sou that seeking strength alone from a weapon can also warrant a weakness. In fact, weakness by itself is not something bad, and Henry is told that one should always be reminded of weaknesses, instead of rejecting it. The apparition disappears, and Allister has Gigantamax Gengar use another Max Ooze.
In that moment, Henry Sword has Oranguru use Max Guard, which protects it from this attack. As this was the third Max attack, Gigantamax Gengar reverts to its original form. Henry's Dynamax Oranguru uses Max Darkness, defeating Gengar in an instant. As the announcer goes to proclaim Henry as the victor, Casey yells out in excitement for Henry's victory. Allister, who has been defeated, is at the lack of words to praise Henry. Allister approaches him and admits this was amazing, but then starts thinking of the words of praise he should've said. Henry Sword nevertheless thanks Allister, and leaves the stadium. Henry later regroups with Marvin and Casey, the latter reporting that Marvin has run off somewhere, and cannot battle him at the moment.
The two wonder about Henry Sword if he has heard the voice of someone close to him, fearing he'd pass into afterlife to reach them. Henry admits he heard his master's voice - that of his father's. Marvin is shocked, to which Henry reminds Marvin that he comes from a family of swordsmiths. He explains that he was chosen as the successor, and every skill regarding swordsmithing was passed from his father - the master - to Henry. However, Henry thought of the job being interesting, and helped his father in the craft, which makes him now reflect that he was a swordsmith just for the interest of it. He admits he forgot that Pokémon's tools in battle are part of them, instead of weapons that use, and his father reminded him of that. Henry Sword believes that his father is pleased to see his son having improved himself, but wonders if this was just Gigantamax Gengar making a hallucination.
As Henry Sword is dragged by the announcer for an interview, Casey and Marvin step outside, seeing Professor Magnolia having returned. They find Allister looking through the window, who is admiring Magnolia's Sinistea and Polteageist. He wonders if he should ask her to take a closer look, for he admires both of these Pokémon, but then starts worrying in case she refuses. Casey taps Allister's back, startling him and making him and Gengar run away for a bit, until they all feel tremors. Magnolia comes outside, wondering what was just that, to which Allister and Gengar go to the mural to find out more. He finds Bede having Copperajah making a hole in the wall, as his Hatenna can sense Wishing Stars behind it.
Allister confronts Bede, reminding this is an important mural. Bede turns to Allister, for he barely heard him. Casey, however, shouts to Bede to stop destroying the mural. However, her loud noise causes the mural to be damaged even more. Bede smiles, for Chairman Rose has entrusted him with this task. Magnolia and Allister do not believe him, and suddenly, two assistants of Rose arrive. Bede asks of them to take Casey and others away, but the two assistants grab Bede, surprising him, as the assistants explain that Oleana has contacted them about his behavior. Bede reminds Rose has tasked him to do this, but Oleana comes as well, explaining that Rose has asked of them to stop Bede. Bede is annoyed, believing she is a useless assistant, until Chairman Rose comes to the scene as well.
Rose confirms that he had sent his people to stop this man, and Oleana reminds Rose that this is Bede. As the commotion increases, Magnolia confirms to Marvin that this is Rose, president of Macro Cosmos and the chairman of the Pokémon League. Rose reminds that he did lend Bede his Copperajah to collect the Wishing Stars, all to secure the future of Galar region for a millennium. Rose reminds this is to protect Galar's nature, people, cities and Pokémon, but now Bede had his priorities mixed up and is now damaging murals, the thing that had to be protected. Rose points out he saw a potential in Bede, and had him sent to the Pokémon School to build up the talent, seeing a future in this Trainer. However, Rose now sees that this talent has just been damaged.
Rose finds it unfortunate, believing someone damaging Galar region has no right to take part in the Gym Challenge. Rose orders Bede to stop the task to gather Wishing Stars, as well as to give the remaining ones to his assistants, and to return to Hammerlocke. Bede is furious, for he was supposed to battle Allister. The assistant adds that this is where his Gym Challenge ends: Chairman Rose (who is reminded of Bede's name) explicitly orders Bede to give the Dynamax Band, for he is now disqualified. At all of this, Bede becomes greatly upset.
