Synopsis[]
Speaking with Sonia and Raihan, Henry Sword starts to believe the Chairman wants to re-enact the Darkest Day. Meeting with Casey and the rest, Henry goes to Stow-On-Side, where he faces the next Gym Leader, Allister. Despite his young age, Allister tries to use tactics to disable Henry's Pokémon, to which Henry tries to outmaneuver him.
Chapter plot[]
Sonia describes the paintings to be mythological tapestries, which depict the founding of the kingdom of Galar region. They depict two youths, watching a Wishing Star, before a disaster stroke. The two youths eventually took upon a sword and a shield to stop that disaster. Henry Sword notices the depicted sword and shield look very much like the one on the statue the hero carried in Budew Drop Inn, as well as the rusted sword and shield in the Slumbering Weald, too. Raihan questions that, since swords and shields look much alike. Henry confirms that, but with certain different details, like the angle of the sharpness of the blade, or its hilt. He suspects these three could all be referring to the same weapons. Sonia ponders these thoughts, comparing the tapestry to the disastrous event they saw on the geoglyph in Turffield. She concludes this depicts the event known as the Darkest Day.
However, they don't see a giant Pokémon depicted in this, which makes Sonia believe she needs more clues to prove that theory. Raihan questions Henry Sword why is he then taking on the Gym Challenge, which makes Sonia wonder about that, too. Henry admits he wants to return to the Slumbering Weald and fight the sword/shield Pokémon. Sonia is excited, but Raihan is bewildered, for he has not heard this story before. After Raihan is told about these events, he sees that Henry wants to build a team to lure those powerful Pokémon out. Raihan thinks of sparring with Henry, but then suspects his own strength will be enough to draw them out. However, Henry declines to go there right now, as Sonia suspects these Pokémon will only go after the people that truly want to find the rusted sword and shield. Raihan understands this, and suspects that those two Pokémon have a connection with this Darkest Day disaster.
Sonia gasps, seeing he is right. Henry Sword then wonders if the disaster and the Wishing Star are linked, too. Sonia hugs the two boys, believing the giant Pokémon and the Wishing Stars are linked, too. She calls them as her assistants, startling the boys. Henry suddenly remembers that Bede and Chairman Rose are apparently searching for the Wishing Stars, and suspects the latter could unleash the Darkest Day again. Raihan mutters the chairman might even bring the Darkest Day for his own ambitions. Sonia doubts that, but Raihan remembers that using the power of Legendary Pokémon ended badly, in other regions, and Galar doesn't have to be an exception. Henry believes they could directly ask the chairman if he wants to bring a disaster to Galar region. Raihan and Sonia smirk, doubting that would yield good results, but dare Sou to ask the chairman to see his reaction.
Outside, the group meets up with Marvin and Casey, the latter gladly showing she found Kilo. Henry Sword is glad, but wonders how it got from the Slumbering Weald to the swamp. Still, Casey is confident she'll get the rest of her team back. Suddenly, someone places a hand on her shoulder, admiring her deep desire. An old woman appears, to which Casey screams, causing the woman to fall down. Raihan recognizes the woman as Opal, Ballonlea's Gym Leader. Casey is relieved, as she at first thought the old woman was a witch. Opal smiles, thinking that's the best compliment Casey would give to her. Raihan wonders why is she here, as she can fight them after their fourth match. Opal admits she wanted to see the challengers Leon endorsed, as she won't be able to see them if they would lose. Turning around, she bets that the two thought they'd defeat this old woman and continue on, to which Casey confirms.
Opal simply asks that they visit the "silent boy" first, making Henry Sword and Casey wonder what she's talking about. She and Raihan add that they need to face Allister, the masked boy, in Stow-on-Side. Moments later, the group with Opal reach Stow-on-Side. Opal asks of the two Trainers to do their best in defeating Allister, while she will take a ride to Ballonlea. Henry and Casey come out of the motorhome, while Marvin sees Magnolia being annoyed, due to the way to Ballonlea being hard to drive, with many corners and bumps. On the stadium, Henry arrives in his Gym outfit, as the Gym Battle is about to start. He faces the masked challenger, who barely mutters "Allister", his name. Henry notices Allister is quite silent, who is the Ghost-type expert. Casey notices Allister is quite short, and Marvin thinks he might be the same age as he is.
Allister sends a Yamask, who carries a rune: Marvin recognizes it to be the Galar variant. Casey identifies it to be a Ghost/Ground-type Pokémon. Henry Sword sends Lancelot, but Yamask grabs its weapon and uses Brutal Swing to toss it, inflicting harmful damage. Lancelot focuses itself, and releases a Solar Blade that defeats Yamask in an instant. Allister returns his Yamask, having many thoughts of not disappointing the viewers that cheer him on. Despite wanting to go home and play, Allister sends out a Cursola. Henry has Lancelot attack quickly, but Casey notices something, and screams out to Henry not to attack, causing many viewers - as well as the commentator - to be deafened by her loud voice. The viewers are annoyed by Casey, since she shouldn't give advice to Henry during the Gym Battle, though Casey reacted too quickly: she wanted to keep this to herself. However, Lancelot has been immobilized: Allister mutters that touching a Cursola gets the enemy stiff as a stone.
Henry Sword realizes he should've made his research on his opponent first, and tries to reverse the situation. He switches his Lancelot with Fannyn. Cursola goes to attack Fannyn, who attempts to evade, but fails. Henry revises the situation: he wants to defeat Cursola with a super-effective move. However, Fannyn only has Foul Play, which is a contact move and will be immobilized if it uses that move. at least on Cursola's rock. Thus, Fannyn goes under Cursola and uses Foul Play on its face, defeating it. Allister mutters that he's lonely, having one last Pokémon at hand. He sends Gengar, and ordering it to swallow everything in darkness, he Gigantamaxes it. Gengar uses G-Max Terror, which locks Henry from swapping Fannyn. Henry admits he doesn't even plan on switching, and Dynamaxes his Fannyn. Henry promises to defeat Gigantamax Gengar with Fannyn, to which Allister wonders if it will go like that.
