Ooh, Shiny!! Legendary Equipment (Japanese: ピカピカ!! 伝説(でんせつ)()()HepburnPikapika!! Densetsu no Mi-gutrans. Shiny!! Legendary Equipment) is the 5th chapter of Pokémon Adventures: Volume 1 (SWSH).

Synopsis[]

Casey and Henry Sword, as they travel to Motostoke to register for the Gym Challenge, recount the story of how they met, and how they encountered the "Sword and Shield Pokémon", which led to Casey's predicament.

Chapter plot[]

Casey starts the story: a year ago, she wanted to visit a place of her choosing: west of Postwick, the Slumbering Weald. Henry Sword visited the place, with his Farfetch'd, where "they" should be deep inside: the rusted sword and shield. He came to a gate, but could not open, as he had to have an adult around to cross through. Henry wondered what to do, until a light ray fell into the forest. As he wondered what that was, a girl—Casey—shouted out for him to move, as she was crossing with her Pokémon. However, she ended up getting herself and her team bashed to the gate. Despite being hurt a bit, Casey asked Henry about the wishing star he had seen. Sou wondered what she meant by "wishing star", to which she clarified it was the light ray that fell. Sou acknowledged that, and pointed to the forest, which they couldn't enter without an authority figure.

Casey was devastated, claiming she had no future without that wishing star. Henry's Farfetch'd simply opened the gate, much to Casey's surprise. Despite the grave danger, Henry closed his eyes, calmly saying there was no way for him to enter, as Farfetch'd was his only Pokémon. Thus, Casey offered herself to enter and investigate. The two sides greeted each other, and entered the area. Inside, Casey encountered and identified a Rookidee, a Flying-type Pokémon, and a Skwovet, a Normal-type Pokémon. Henry remarked that she knew a lot about Pokémon, as Casey mentioned that she worked hard to become Professor Magnolia's assistant, the lead researcher in Dynamax.

Henry Sword asked "Miss Shield" (to which she asked of him to call her Casey) about the part that she'd have no future. Casey replied that "Wishing Star" is an item that allows one to Dynamax, and she needed that item to help the professor with the research. She asked him why was he at the entrance, to which he asked her about the rusted sword and shield. Casey did not know what he meant with that; Henry explained his family were swordsmiths, and he maintained Pokémon's equipment - gears. Henry admitted he never had seen a real sword or armor, so he went to find them somewhere in this Weald. Suddenly, Casey finds Henry's Farfetch'd, who points at two bright lights. Casey becomes touched, for there are two Wishing Lights. Thus, as a reward, she gives Sou one of the lights so he can Dynamax Pokémon as well.

Henry Sword was glad, but was told he also needed a Dynamax Band: League Chairman Rose, leader of the Macro Cosmos, has crafted the band, using Magnolia's theories to develop it. Sou nodded, but Casey realized he hasn't heard of Rose, either. Henry admitted he didn't care much for the Pokémon League, or Dynamaxing. Casey was astounded, since Henry was atypical, and advised him to visit Professor Magnolia about Dynamaxing. Suddenly, Henry noticed that they were surrounded by a thick fog. Sou believed this was the reason why people were not allowed into the Weald. Casey thought they could take a direction to get out, but Sou doubted that was a good idea. Suddenly, Henry felt a presence watching over them, though Casey didn't feel anything. In that moment, the two encountered two large Pokémon, who circled around them.

Henry Sword and Casey felt like these two guardians of the Weald were evaluating them. Sou stated they cannot leave at this moment, but Casey didn't want to remain here for a long time. Instead, she sent all of her Pokémon out: Kilo's Scald, Tera's Shock Wave, Peta's Blizzard, Mega's Metal Claw and Giga's Rock Smash attacks were launched at the two large Pokémon. However, the moves simply went through the two Pokémon, yet Casey's Pokémon were defeated in one attack. Casey was startled, and asked Henry if he also saw that, believing these two to be illusions. Henry noticed something, and pointed to two objects behind these Pokémon: a faint image of a sword and a shield. Sou frowned, and approached the two Pokémon.

Casey was alarmed that Sou approached these two Pokémon. Henry Sword, however, stated that he didn't come to steal the sword or shield, but to take a look. He told Casey that if these two are really illusions, then he shouldn't be hurt from their attacks, since it has no physical appearance. Thus, Sou passed through the two Pokémon, and sighed when he realized he was right. Casey cheered him on, and called her Pokémon back. With the illusions gone, Henry noticed the shield and sword remained. Due to the fog, Casey went to take a closer look, but a bright light overwhelmed them.

"BAM!" Casey shouts, causing Marvin to faint. Casey shakes him, telling that they were the ones that lost consciousness. Henry Sword admits that they didn't lose just consciousness: when they woke up after that bright light, the fog had cleared. The sword and the shield were gone, but more shockingly, all of Casey's Pokémon, inside the Poké Balls, were gone. Casey cried, and the two searched by the river to find these Pokémon, but found nothing. It was why they decided to help Professor Magnolia. The latter admits she does not know why people were prohibited from entering the Weald. She is not certain whether the Pokémon were blasted away by the light, or are simply with the sword and shield Pokémon.

Marvin questions "sword and shield Pokémon", as Magnolia adds that they dubbed these Pokémon that way. Sou wanted to support Casey in finding these Pokémon, thinking it was his fault that the Pokémon got lost, while Magnolia knew Casey since she was young. It was why she took both of them, not only to research Dynamaxing, but to find Casey's Pokémon. Marvin is a bit sad that Casey's Pokémon have not been found, but Casey pats him. She opens her coat, revealing her League outfit, for she is planning to enter the tournament. She reminds they have been supported by a major company so that a rival team has decided to assault them. She believes with such influence, they will be able to spread word about her missing Pokémon, and she'll be able to find them. Marvin sees that might just work.

Magnolia stops the vehicle, for they have arrived to Motostoke. At the stadium, Henry Sword and Casey register for the Gym challenge. The receptionist tells the opening ceremony has ended, but they can rest at the Budew Drop Inn. Henry and Casey accept that advice, whereas Magnolia tells Marvin they can rent a room. The group goes inside, where Casey points at the statue of a knight, wielding a sword and a shield.
