Rystal is a recurring character appearing in Pokémon Horizons: The Series. She is Lucius' wife, and Liko's great-great-grandmother.
Appearance[]
As a young adventurer, Rystal had shorter dirty blonde hair tied into a bun, dark blue eyes, and her cheeks had two square shaped marks. She wore a green fedora with two long feathers in white and orange, white gloves, a green jacket and a pair of shorts with grey accents, a grey bodysuit, a carrier bag of blue and grey colors, black leggings, and a set of silver and grey boots.
As a mother, Rystal had longer hair that resembled a bobcut. Her ears were donned with a pair of orange, white and green patterened earrings. Her cheeks no longer had markings. She wore a dark green and maroon blouse, a long black skirt with maroon streaks, and dark brown shoes.
Personality[]
Like her husband Lucius, Rystal is a kind and adventurous person, and very compassionate to Pokémon in general. She had a deep bond with her Terapagos when she was alive. However, after being betrayed by Gibeon and losing her husband during her adventures in Laqua, Rystal decided to give up adventuring for the sake of her daugther Layla and in hopes of living a peaceful life.
It also appears that Rystal has passed down some of her hot-blooded temper to her some of her family members, like her granddaughter Diana, when she temporarily took offense to being called a great-great-grandmother despite the fact being one.
Biography[]
When Rystal was younger, she met Lucius, who saved her and Terapagos from a group of poachers. She befriended him and went on a journey with Gibeon, who was also interested in exploring the legend of Laqua. With that, they became the founding members of the Explorers.
Eventually, Rystal and Lucius fell in love with each other and got married. However, the couple later found out that Laquium, a special mineral from Laqua, was responsible for causing wild Pokémon to go rampant. Rystal and Lucius wished to end their adventure to avoid any potential danger caused by the mineral, but Gibeon thought otherwise and continued experimenting on Laquium. Soon, Gibeon disappeared after falling into a crevasse during his battle with Lucius, and both Rystal and Terapagos were devastated after Lucius vanished. Rystal then returned to the mainlands with a ship, but was still despondent after all.
Rystal later had to raise her daughter Layla on her own, ever since Lucius was gone. Believing that her husband had died, she never told Layla about him to protect her child's safety. Unfortunately, Rystal would later die young to an unknown cause, and Layla never got to know her name properly.[1]
The Rising Volt Tacklers and Diana would summon her spirit into the present day at the Crystal Pool. Diana then realized Rystal was related to her family when she realized Layla was the name of Rystal's daughter. Although she briefly took offense to being called old, Rystal was happy to see Terapagos again, and recounted her story with Lucius. She then thanked the Rising Volt Tacklers for letting her see Terapagos once more, before saying Lucius' name and returning to the afterlife.[2]
