The Running Shoes are an item introduced in Generation III.
Effect[]
The Running Shoes are special shoes that allow the player to run, which is about twice as fast than walking. They are usually received from the player's mom. In Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version, they are received from an old man in Cherrygrove City instead. The player can use the Running Shoes by holding down the B button.
Running will cause other Pokémon Trainers to look in your direction, so they cannot be used to quickly slip by unnoticed. As soon as they notice the player, they will engage the player in a Pokémon_battle.
There are a few places that cannot be run through, such as very Tall Grass. In the Generation III games, the player cannot use the Running Shoes to run inside of most buildings, though in Generation IV, the player can run while inside of any building. However, deep snow is added in which one can sometimes run but never ride their bike inside of. Running through the tall grass increases the chance of being attacked by a wild Pokémon.
The player can travel even faster while outside of buildings once they have received a Bicycle.
Appearances[]
Manga[]
In Pokémon Adventures, Norman gave Ruby a pair of Running Shoes. Like in the game, it allows Ruby to run more faster than the normal one using compacted air to push him.
