Ruinous Shrines are the shrines where the Ruinous Quartet were sealed away. They can only be opened by, and once all, Mysterious Stakes are collected. The color of the Mysterious Stakes and Ruinous Shrines correspond with what member is sealed away inside:
The shrines are sealed by four chains that prevent it from being opened. For every two stakes of the corresponding shrine removed, one of these chains will be removed. When the last stake is pulled, a roar will come from the shrine as it becomes unlocked, where the Pokémon can be fought. Once the Pokémon is caught, the shrine will remain opened.

- Chi-Yu's shrine, the Fireblight Shrine, is the only shrine where wild Pokémon can spawn in front of its entrance. All other shrines do not spawn Pokémon.
