With her Geodude defeated, Roxanne sent Nosepass to battle Ash's Pikachu. Pikachu managed to strike a direct hit on Nosepass with Iron Tail. Pikachu repeated its attack, but failed, since it did not master the move. Nosepass managed to encase Pikachu by using Rock Tomb, though Pikachu broke free by using Thunder. Nosepass managed to use Sandstorm and track down Pikachu by using its electromagnetic nose and nearly crushed it. Pikachu dodged and used Quick Attack to evade Nosepass' Rock Tomb and Thunder Wave. To finish the battle, Nosepass launched Zap Cannon. However, Pikachu absorbed the electricity and charged towards Nosepass, causing it to take the Zap Cannon attack. Being paralyzed, Nosepass could not use Rock Tomb and was defeated by Pikachu's Iron Tail, thus making Ash win the Gym battle.
While sailing towards Dewford Island, Ash saw his Pikachu relaxing with other Pokémon. Max reminded Ash of Pikachu's intense battle against Roxanne's Nosepass, claiming they could rest a bit. While fishing out for a Whiscash, nicknamed Nero, who stole his Badge Case, Ash recalled battling Roxanne and her Nosepass. While they were floating in a river, Ash and Pikachu (the latter having amnesia) recalled their battle against Roxanne's Nosepass.
Before arriving to Slateport City for May's Grand Festival, she and Ash remembered their past adventures so far. Ash recalled battling Roxanne, who sent Nosepass. Nosepass tried to stomp on Pikachu, who dodged the attack Pikachu also tried to attack Nosepass off with Iron Tail, but had some complications with that move. Thus, Pikachu tried to escape with Quick Attack, but got hit with Rock Tomb. However, Ash remembered Pikachu circled around Nosepass and took Zap Cannon attack and bashed into Nosepass, then finished it off with Iron Tail.
