Hello. You must be a new challenger. I am Roxanne, the Rustboro City Pokémon Gym Leader. I became a Gym Leader so that I may apply in battle all that I've learned at the Pokémon Trainers' School. If you defeat me in a Pokémon battle, I'll present you with a Gym Badge as proof of your strength as a Trainer. Please take up the challenge. I look forward to seeing you as a challenger. Until then, farewell.

Roxanne is a Rock type Gym Leader in the Hoenn Region. She also teaches at, and helps run the Pokémon Trainer's School in Rustboro City. Her Gym is in Rustboro City. She will award the player character with the Stone Badge if they defeat her.

Roxanne is a girl with red eyes and brown hair, which is tied up into two pigtails with a red bow, with a small black U-stripe. Roxanne wears pink tights and a small tie-like pink scarf around her neck.

Ruby and Sapphire[]

She wears a white shirt with a purple school uniform dress and a pair of purple shoes.

Emerald[]

She wears a gray school sleeveless uniform skirt with a rectangular print, which is white on the inside. Roxanne also wears a white undershirt, with short sleeves, inside her skirt is a white petticoat and a pair of black mary jane shoes.

Personality[]

She loves rocks and loves the Pokémon Trainer's School. During her pre-battle conversation, she tells the player that she practices what she learns from school. This hints that she is a studious type of sorts, and is proud of her abilities to turn knowledge into power.

Etymology[]

The name Roxanne comes from "rock".

Her Japanese name, Tsutsuji, originates from 土 (tsuchi, the Japanese word for "soil"). Following the plant-based naming of most Gym Leaders, it may also literally be 躑躅 (tsutsuji, the Japanese name for the rhododendron genus of trees).
