Route 1 (Kanto) Routes Route 3 (Kanto)

Route 2 is the second route in the Kanto region. It connects Viridian City to Pewter City and passes through the Viridian Forest. It also has an entrance to Diglett's Cave located on one side.

Description[]

Route 2 has two pathways; one leading to the Viridian Forest at the west and the other leading to Diglett's Cave on the east. Both of the pathways take the player character to the same destination of Pewter City.

The western path is the only path accessible to the player character in the beginning. There are three ledges on this path — two of them in the south just above the entrance, and another one in the north below the entrance gate of Viridian Forest. A large patch of grass is located below the northern ledge, and there is a sign-board with directions located near the entrance. The western path is surrounded by trees on all the sides, except on two sections, where cut-able trees block the path and can only be removed by the use of Cut.

The eastern path can be accessed by the player character through Diglett's Cave, which connects Route 11 and Route 2, and with the use of Cut. In Generation I and Generation III, a man residing in the house below Diglett's Cave offers Mr. Mime for trade in exchange for Abra (except in Yellow Version, where he asks for Clefairy instead).

Another cut-able tree blocks the path leading to the southern gate, where Professor Oak's aide gives the player character HM05 if the player character has ten Pokémon registered in their Pokédex as owned. South of the gate, the western and eastern path merge, separated only by two cut-able trees. There are several items located in this area.
