Cyrus using the Red Chain in Pokémon Platinum Version

The Red Chain is used by Cyrus to control Dialga in Pokémon Diamond Version, Palkia in Pokémon Pearl Version, and both in Pokémon Platinum Version to create a new universe for him. It was crafted from the extracted gems of Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. The Red Chain exists as an unused key item in the games' code.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player has to obtain the materials for the Red Chain from the Lake Guardians during their exile from Jubilife Village. It is used to calm Dialga or Palkia from having Adaman or Irida as their partner, respectively. It is composed of Uxie's Claw, Mesprit's Plume, and Azelf's Fang. The Red Chain is created a lot more ethically than in Generation IV, since the Lake Guardians willfully help by making it for the player.

Pokémon the Series[]

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl[]

The Red Chain is featured in some episodes of Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl. Team Galactic wants to use the Red Chain to control Dialga and Palkia, just like in the core series. However, a difference is that the Red Chain is created from meteorites in Veilstone City, not the Lake Guardians. Team Rocket had finished making the Red Chain by "Unlocking the Red Chain of Events!".

In "The Battle Finale of Legend!", Cyrus summons both Dialga and Palkia on Spear Pillar before trapping each of them in a Red Chain, putting them under his control. However, Giratina appears and manages to destroy the Red Chain. The Red Chains resemble Arceus' ring while being controlled by Cyrus from a glove with a red jewel.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series[]

Another Red Chain is featured in "The Gates of Warp!" and "Showdown at the Gates of Warp!". It is created by the Alternate Team Rocket to engage Palkia and Dialga in a battle, giving them control over both Legendary Pokémon. The Red Chain is destroyed simply after Ash and his friends make a prayer to Arceus for Dialga and Palkia to stop fighting.

Pokémon Generations[]

The Red Chain has a role in "The New World", where it more closely resembles an actual chain, except red. Like in other media, Cyrus uses the Red Chain to take control over Dialga and Palkia. However, Giratina emerges and destroys the Red Chain by using Shadow Ball, after evading attacks from Dialga and Palkia. When the Red Chain is destroyed, Dialga and Palkia become no longer under the command of Cyrus.

Red Chain D&P069

A Red Chain in "Halting Honchkrow"

In Pokémon Adventures, two Red Chains have a role in the Diamond & Pearl Chapter, and both of them look like regular chains. It is first mentioned in "Stopping Sableye" by Charon to Cyrus when he explains that he needs wisdom, emotion, and will to create the Red Chain, hinting to the Lake Guardians, and therefore control Dialga and Palkia.

The Red Chain is constructed during the course of a few chapters. It begins in "Besting Buizel I", after Cyrus and Charon had caught the Lake Guardians, necessary to create it. In the following chapter "Besting Buizel II", Cyrus informs the other members of Team Galactic that scientists are busy working on creating the Red Chain. The Red Chain is mentioned in "Encountering Elekid" by a member of Team Galactic when he asks Cyrus how many chains are needed, to which Cyrus says two, for time and space respectively. Cyrus explains the two Red Chains intervene as a double helix and are necessary for the creation of the universe. The first Red Chain is completed by "Halting Honchkrow" and admired by both Cyrus and the Advanced level Grunt.

Two Red Chains are ready by the end of "Creeping Away from Cradily". In the following chapter, "Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia I", Cyrus uses both Red Chains to summon Dialga and Palkia and tries to make them create a new world. In "Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia II", the Gym Leaders join the fight against Dialga and Palkia and manage to break one of the Chains. In the very last chapter of the arc, "Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia VI", the other Red Chain is destroyed through the efforts of Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure![]

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!, the Red Chain appears in "Clash! Hareta vs. Mitsumi!!", where Cyrus managed to have created it using energy from the three Lake Guardians. In the next chapter, , Cyrus uses the Red Chain to take control of Dialga only, like in Pokémon Diamond Version, but the Lake Guardians later arrive to destroy it, freeing Dialga.
