Raihan is a young man with a tall and slim build. He has black hair tied in a protective style with an undercut, light brown skin, and cyan-colored eyes. Raihan wears a black hoodie with dark blue, orange, and tan-colored accents, the Dragon-type uniform, and dark blue/orange shoes, as well as an orange hairband. His outfit resembles his gym's type, Dragon. The hoodie has a collar that resembles the teeth of an open mouth. The sleeves end as his elbows with orange cuffs stopping at his forearms. He sports a Dynamax Band around his right wrist.
Personality[]
Raihan cares much for his public image, showing off his strength and his Pokémon in magazines to beat Leon. However, he also takes note of Gym Challengers, and makes a lot of research on them before facing them in battle.
Etymology[]
Raihan's name comes from the Arabic word ريحان (rayhan, basil). Basil is sometimes referred to as the "royal herb", which could possibly be a reference to him specializing in the Dragon type.
Kibana, his Japanese name, comes from 牙 (kiba, fang).
Biography[]
Raihan was usually described as a "rebel": he used to go into the power plant at Hammerlocke,[1] in where he'd have his Pokémon use moves. He did note that the power plant was reinforced so the structure wouldn't suffer damage.[2]
Sword & Shield arc[]
Raihan looked at his phone, showing the four challengers: Bede, Marnie, Henry Sword and Casey. He smiled, knowing that he did predict correctly that the Trainers Leon had recommended have defeated Kabu. He then turned to Duraludon, wondering which one of these trainers would be successful enough to face him in battle.[3]
When Henry Sword arrived to Hammerlocke to enter the vault, he was intercepted by Raihan. The latter greeted Henry Sword Sword, recognizing him as the challenger approved by Leon. Henry Sword Sword Sword didn't know who Raihan was, to which the latter introduced himself as Hammerlocke's Gym Leader. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword apologized for his ignorance, to which Raihan commented such people made battles much more interesting. Raihan pointed out that he has studied his challengers a lot, like Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword, whose proficiency was crafting "Gears", and that he came to enter the vault. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword became nervous how much Raihan knew about him, to which the latter dared Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword to battle him, wondering if his ace was Lancelot, Twiggy or Steeler. While Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword was in shock that Raihan knew even his Pokémon's nicknames, he sent a Sandaconda to use a Sandstorm. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword, despite reminding he had little time left to register for the vault, defended himself by sending a Lancelot, but was quickly thrown aback by Sandaconda's Slam attack. At this point, Raihan stopped the fight and asked Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword to come with him.
Henry Sword was quite confused, and was told that Raihan simply took pictures of the battle to compete with Leon by being featured in the Pokémon Journal. While he wanted some pictures of battles, he didn't want to battle a wimp, and reminded Henry Sword Sword he could challenge him in a Gym Match after defeating the rest of the Gym Leaders. After entering the vault, the two wondered where Sonia was, as Raihan let her in, seeing her enthusiasm. Hearing a scream, the two went down, seeing Sonia being chased by an Oranguru and her Yamper. Raihan was confused at this sight, while Henry Sword Sword Sword sent his Lancelot to attack Oranguru. However, the latter used its fan to take control of Lancelot to attack Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword, who was defended by his Steeler. Seeing Oranguru's power in action, Raihan had Duraludon and Sandaconda attack it, but Oranguru took control of Sandaconda and attack Duraludon instead. In order to stop Oranguru, Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword had his and Raihan's Pokémon bind Oranguru, while Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword trimmed its fan. Oranguru calmed down, and Sonia thanked the boys for rescuing her.[4]
Raihan visited Sonia and Henry Sword, who were discussing tapestries. He wondered why Henry Sword Sword took on the Gym Challenge, to which Henry Sword Sword Sword replied that he wanted to meet the sword and shield Pokémon from the Slumbering Weald. Raihan became shocked, for he never knew that about Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword. He was ecstatic that Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword still met them, and believed his own strength (if not training Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword) would summon them. Sonia doubted that, thinking he needed a reason to summon them first. He wondered whether the tapestries depict the Darkest Day incident, shocking Sonia, who believed he was right. She hugged the boys, calling them as her assistants, for making such breakthroughs, even if neither Raihan nor Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword didn't want to be her assistant. As Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword remembered that Chairman Rose hired Bede to collect the Wishing Stars, Raihan felt that Chairman Rose wanted to unleash the Darkest Day again.
Sonia doubted him, but Raihan reminded that there were many Pokémon, in and outside of Galar region, who had such power, and it could've been the man's personal ambitions to destroy the region. Henry Sword believed they could ask the Chairman himself if he wanted to destroy the region. Raihan and Sonia laughed, wanting to see if Henry Sword Sword would really ask Chairman Rose that question, to see the latter's reaction. Outside, the group met up with Casey and Marvin, and were approached by Opal, who startled Casey. Raihan noticed Opal's presence, to which she wanted to see the challengers approved by Leon, before their potential defeat. She mentioned that they had to first defeat the masked boy, whom she and Raihan muttered his name was Allister.[5]
Raihan later went to the power plant, seeing Leon arguing with Bede and Sonia. Raihan reminded that Leon could look bad by grabbing Sonia's hand, to which the latter saw she had to deal with this conflict. Raihan felt that she could call Nessa for support, which annoyed Leon. Bede tried to force himself into the power plant, but Leon stopped him. Raihan believed he could go in the power plant with Bede, while Leon did not think that was a good idea. As the two argued, Bede stormed away, so Leon and Sonia went to evacuate the people. Raihan went into the power plant, where he used Goodra to open the door and Flygon to ride around. As Raihan believed the security was as bad as it was back in his younger days, he was attacked by a Tsareena and a Froslass.
He was pushed away from his Flygon, before encountering Chairman Rose and Oleana, who mistook him for an intruder. Rose greeted Raihan, noting he was late. Raihan saw that Rose has anticipated him, to which the latter stated that Raihan was the rebel around here, unlike Leon, who wouldn't want to enter the power plant unless it didn't harm his reputation. Regardless, Raihan wanted to know what happened in the power plant, but Rose simply stated that there were no casualties. Being pressed further, Rose asked Oleana if they should tell Raihan, to which she approved of. Rose admitted that they could experience the lack of particles around Galar region that were used in the power plant to provide electricity to the Galar region. Moreover, Rose felt that things could get drastic that Galar region—and even the world—could be threatened within a millennium.
Raihan was relieved that the doom would come outside his lifetime, but Rose reminded him that the Pokémon could witness that. Rose was aware that a thousand years was a long time, but he did not wish to sit idle, and instead wanted to work to avoid that tragedy. Raihan suspected that this was why Rose sent Bede to collect the Wishing Stars (which were placed in a bowl), to which Rose applauded him for such thinking. However, Rose did not succeed in the task, and instead asked of Raihan not to mention about this encounter to anyone. Raihan advised that he could share the truth with the people to avoid being suspicious. Rose agreed, and asked of Oleana to schedule a speech. Without further ado, Raihan left, but deep inside, he felt that Rose was lying. He felt that he should call in the "real rebel" to deal with the situation, for the bowl with the Wishing Stars looked like an offering.[1] Once Henry Sword saw that Chairman Rose struck a deal with two men, who attacked him and Casey, he thought of Raihan and Sonia. It made him determined to confront Chairman Rose about the Darkest Day, for he promised that to Raihan.[6]
Raihan was at Hammerlocke when the Darkest Day occurred. Leon and Raihan defeated the rampaging Dynamaxed Pokémon with Gigantamax Charizard and Duraludon, astounding the spectators. However, Nessa noticed a large being atop the tower, wondering if it, too, was a part of the Darkest Day. As they tried to enter the powerplant, Sonia noticed Shielbert and Sordward before they entered the facility, which sealed itself. In order to find another entrance, the group flew on Leon's Charizard and Raihan's Flygon, eventually encountering Henry Sword, Casey and the rest of the group. After meeting up with them, the group went inside the power plant, where they saw Chairman Rose proclaiming the success of his mission.[7] Raihan and others confronted Chairman Rose, who stated that while certain crimes were committed, it was all to protect the Galar region, to accumulate Galar particles. Raihan attempted to call the elevator, but failed. Since the exit was sealed, Henry Sword Sword proposed using Pokémon moves to get out, but Raihan knew it wouldn't work because he tried that as a kid, and believed the structure was chosen to keep Eternatus because of its hardiness.[2]
Oleana, who came out of the elevator, asked for their help, which made Casey angry at her for luring them in and trapping them. Oleana reminded that Rose needed help, for he was trying to save Galar from its devastating future. Others had their doubts about this, to which Oleana admitted that even if Rose's intentions were benevolent, he could still make a wrong decision and suffer, to which Melony noted she was right. The group went to the top of the power plant, where Eternatus defeated Rose. With the fires spreading, the Gym Leaders arrived and stopped the fire, letting Raihan and Leon to come in and rescue Rose. As Eternatus swung its tail, Bede's Hattrem evolved into a Hatterene and fired Dazzling Gleam to distract Eternatus, which made Leon and Raihan drag Rose to safety. The chairman was grateful for their rescue, as well as Bede, who realized that the chairman didn't forget his name. Leon and Raihan faced Eternatus, commenting how it must be a Dragon and Poison-type Pokémon, for Dazzling Gleam worked efficiently. They had others join in the fight to take Eternatus down. However, Eternatus didn't suffer much, and a burst of energy was emitted: a beam was shot into the sky, transforming Eternatus into its "serious mode".[8]
Raihan continued to battle Eternatus. He wanted to pursue Eternatus by having Flygon ram itself with Dragon Rush, but the attack was deflected. Raihan became frustrated, as to why didn't it even harm it. Eternatus emitted a powerful beam that defeated his Flygon in one hit. To continue the fight, he sent out Duraludon, but it also got defeated by Eternatus. Raihan became overwhelmed, seeing how strong Eternatus is for the entire group to fight it. As two Pokémon arrived—Zacian and Zamazenta—Piers had Nessa use a Revival Herb to restore his Malamar, warping everyone to safety. Thus, Raihan continued to watch Zacian and Zamazenta battle Eternatus.[9]
Just as Zacian and Zamazenta collided with Eternatus, a bright light flashed. By the time the rest of the Gym Leaders came to the top, they found everyone, including Raihan, unconscious. The group was taken to the hospital in Hammerlocke, where they were recovering. However, Raihan suffered a hallucination where he would use a Full Heal to cure himself. Oleana compared him to Henry Sword, Sordward and Shielbert, noting that they all came in direct contact with Eternatus.[10] With the cure from Isle of Armor delivered, Raihan was cured from the poison. However, his hair has grown very long, to which Sonia took a picture of the group and sent it to Casey and Hop, who were working at Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, respectively.[11]
