The Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon IX (Japanese: VS カイオーガ & グラードン IX, Hepburn: VS Kyogre & Groudon IX) is the 9th chapter of Pokémon Adventures: Volume 20.
Synopsis[]
Winona and Flannery battle Matt and Shelly to rescue their friend, Wattson. However, they find themselves unable, with their strategic moves. Brawly fights Blaise, who uses the power of illusions to defeat Brawly, but Brawly shows off new strategies he learned from an old friend.
Chapter plot[]
Wattson and Manectric are drowning into the sea. Winona goes with Altaria to rescue them, but Altaria does not listen to her. Matt is thankful his Sharpedo used Taunt on Altaria, so it cannot focus on anything else. Shelly is fond they are the sea scheme subleaders, known as the SSS. Flannery has Vulpix attack Shelly's Ludicolo, but is hit back by a force. Flannery gets attacked once more, since Ludicolo used Nature Power, which can harness the power of nature - it can use Hydro Pump or Surf on water, Razor Leaf or Stun Spore at land or even Earthquake or Shadow Ball. Shelly replies this attack came from the sea, which they want to expand, thinking that is a noble goal. Shelly tells the sacrificies like Prof. Cozmo, or the Gym Leaders, are for greater good and will be remembered well, as her Ludicolo attacks.
At Lilycove City, Brawly fights Blaise, whose flames surround Brawly and burns his Machoke. Machoke leers Slugma, then uses Revenge, hitting Slugma. Brawly is glad Slugma is defeated, but realizes Slugma is gone and the pictures surrounding them turn to life and attempt to take him and Machoke. Brawly tells these pictures are just illusions. Blaise wonders why doesn't he give up, since Blaise is only here to stall Brawly to make Groudon rampage throughout the land. Brawly is not pleased Blaise does not attack, since Brawly specializes in martial art, jū, to counter the incoming attacks. Since Blaise does not attack, Brawly takes his nunchucks out, claiming he met his old friend and learned the martial art of gō - he sends out Hariyama, who uses Fake Out.
Brawly's Hariyama dispels the illusions and attacks the Slugma using Knock Off repeatedly. Brawly invokes the power of his friend, Bruno, to defeat Blaise.
