Ash and his friends encountered a pride of Pyroar during their travels. At that time, one of the pride's Litleo had reached the age when it was time for it to become independent, and so the male Pyroar ordered it to leave the pride and go off on its own. However, he still kept watch over the Litleo from a distance.
The male Pyroar briefly blasted off Team Rocket with a Flamethrower when the latter three invaded the Royal Pokémon's territory. However, the male Pyroar was eventually captured by the trio after he reunited with the Litleo. In a fit of rage, the male Pyroar let out a massive Overheat attack that proved ineffective due to the Mecha's fireproof glass container. However, thanks to the encouragement of Ash and his friends, as well as the Litleo, Pyroar managed to calm down. After being rescued by Ash's Frogadier, both Pyroar and Litleo teamed up with Pikachu to send Team Rocket blasting off for good.
