Professor Laventon is the regional Professor of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, situated in the Hisui region. He is likely from the Galar region and also associated with the Galaxy Team. He bears a resemblance to the modern-day Galar champion Leon and his brother Hop, suggesting that they are related. He is the inventor of what would eventually come to be known as the Pokédex.
Appearance[]
Concept artwork of Professor Laventon
Professor Laventon is depicted as a man of short to average height with a round, somewhat stout build that gives him a genial, approachable appearance. His face is expressive, often showing a mix of curiosity, warmth, and mild surprise, reflecting his personality as an inquisitive and somewhat bumbling academic. He has a darker complexion and a neatly groomed beard and mustache, which frame his face and lend him a scholarly air. His eyes are large and animated, emphasizing his enthusiasm and genuine passion for research. Laventon's posture is slightly hunched, likely from years spent poring over notes and studying Pokémon, yet it doesn't diminish his energy or determination. His overall bearing exudes both intellect and approachability—the look of someone who is more at home in a field of study than on a battlefield.
Laventon's attire is a blend of practicality and formality, fitting for a man of science in the Hisui region. He wears a long white lab coat that extends to his knees, a signature garment symbolizing his role as a professor. Underneath, he sports a brown vest with gold buttons, worn over a lavender dress shirt that adds a touch of color and personality to his look. A dark purple bow tie sits neatly at his collar, giving him an old-fashioned charm. His trousers are black with fine vertical pinstripes, tucked neatly into sturdy brown boots that suggest he's prepared for fieldwork as much as research. One of his most distinctive accessories is his unique hat—a purple and white cap with a swirling pattern and a large fluffy pom-pom on top, which gives him a whimsical, almost childlike appearance. The combination of his refined yet eccentric clothing perfectly captures Laventon's dual nature as both a serious scholar and a kindly, slightly quirky adventurer.
Personality[]
Laventon is a generally friendly and welcoming hardworker, hoping to give his best to create the very first Pokédex of Hisui. He is able to connect with strangers like the player rather quickly due to having travelled to Hisui from his faraway home region himself, and has much trust in the player. Despite his diligence, he can be somewhat of a scatterbrain, and occasionally has difficulty to interact with the Pokémon he is trying to research of. He speaks in a standard English accent, and has a tendency towards stock British phrases such as "jolly good" and "right on."
Etymology[]
His name is derived from "lavender", a cash crop that was imported from Europe to Hokkaido during the Meiji period.
Biography[]
Games[]
Professor Laventon first appeared at the beginning of the game where he first finds the player watched up on the beach near Jubilife Village with the Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott in his care. Throughout the game, he authors the player's Pokédex.

Trivia[]
- He has been implied to be from Galar:
- In non-English versions of "Legends: Arceus", his dialogues are scattered with English vocabularies.
- His chalkboard inside the Galaxy Team's building is written with Galarian characters.
- He mentioned Copperajah in the Pokédex entry of Raichu, which is known to be a common Pokémon in Galar despite not being a native species there. However, this could also suggest that he is from the Pokémon world's equivalent of India and moved to Galar, since Copperajah is not native to Galar and is implied to be from the Pokémon world's equivalent of India (this reflects real-world British colonial influence in India).
- He was surprised to see a normal Kantonian Ponyta, indicating that the Ponyta he had witnessed in his home region is notably different from other regions'.
- The chimney that connects to his boiler inside his Galaxy Team room's building exterior is shaped like a Galarian Weezing's.
- It is heavily implied that Laventon is an ancestor of Leon and Hop. The fact that his hat seems to depict a crown may be a reference to the crown emblem on the brim of Leon's hat.
- Laventon is depicted on a painting in Paldea's Naranja Academy/Uva Academy during the introductory scene of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. He is also shown on the same screen whenever the player is attending Raifort's history lessons.
- According to various in-game Pokédex entries, Laventon's legacy includes coining modern-day Pokémon terminology such as "scalchop" and "aura."
