Primarina (アシレーヌ Ashireenu) is a Water/Fairy-type Pokémon introduced in Sun and Moon. It is the second and final evolved form of Popplio. Along with Decidueye and Incineroar.

Primarina is a white siren-like Pokémon. It has pink stars on the sides of its head connected to white pearls and a light blue fin. It has long flowing blueish hair with white pearls in it resembling hair bands. It has a pink nose, and blue eyes with white eyelashes. On its chest, there is a light blue fin wrapped around it. It also has a long blue tail with pink spikes, light blue fins, and a white fin at the very end.

Primarina, as the Pokédex says, sees every battle as a stage, so some people call it a songstress. Unfortunately, it might suffer from sore throats especially when it has to battle in an area with dry climate or doesn't rest between battles.

On Pokémon Refresh, its preferred petting spot is its head decorations, and its disliked petting spot is its left flipper.

Natural abilities

Primarina can skillfully create and manipulate water bubbles and balloons while dancing gracefully. They can also sing and understand variations of songs and operettas which can in turn control the movements of water balloons. Its singing seems to cast a soothing effect on Pokemon that hear it.

Primarina is the evolved form of Brionne as of level 34. It is also the final evolution of Popplio.

Lana's Primarina

Primarina first appeared in Pushing the Fiery Envelope! under the ownership of unnamed trainer. Ida also owns a Primarina that evolved from Brionne offscreen in Evolving Research!.

Lana owns a Primarina after evolving from Brionne in The One That Didn't Get Away!.

  • Primarina is only one of two fully evolved starter Pokémon to not have any legs. The other is Serperior.
  • Primarina's signature move Sparkling Aria heals the burns of the target it strikes. This is likely to counter Pokémon with the Guts Ability, who get a boost when inflicted with a status condition.
  • Its ability to calm others with its singing is similar to Meloetta, which can make people and Pokemon happy with its melodies.

Primarina is based on sea lions, mermaids and sirens/selkies (water maidens in European mythology that took on the form of seals), with elements of performers and opera singers.

Primarina comes from prima donna (an opera singer), marine and ballerina.

Ashirēnu comes from 足利 (ashika, sea lion), siren, and rain. It may also incorporate Irene, the Greek goddess of peace.
