Request for promotion

Alan Sycamore! (Administrator)

— Alan Sycamore! / Message Wall / Contributions
This is going to be my second and last request to be done on this forum. I will explain the reasons for making this request.

I joined this place in February 2017 and was given a chance to prove myself to be a good discussions moderator on November 2017. I proved that I'm capable enough of managing the Pokémon wiki discussions and have always lent a helping hand to all my fellow moderators. I have spent most of my time thinking about and caring for the wiki, implementing new ideas to keep the discussions alive, which everyone can attest to. Believe it or not, I've been a very active member on there and my activity proves it. I promptly take action on the troll and spam posts.

What came across my mind was that we moderators should have the blocking permissions as well in order to keep the offenders away and block them quickly on discussions whenever they come. Unfortunately, this permission is limited to the administrators only and we are unable to do anything more than just locking and deleting the posts. Other than that, we have to wait for the admins to come online and block. I understand that everyone can't be active 24/7 but there should be an admin who hails from the discussions to reduce the burden of other admins by helping out with the blocking of errant users, while the other admins will not be distracted from their other work. So in late 2019, I decided to enquire about the administrator rights with one of the bureaucrats, Energy X, and was told to do some edits and meet the requirements of the administrator.

I now meet the requirements of 500 edits(i have more than just 500 quality and mainspace edits) and I'm a rollback now. My discussions moderator badge proves it that I've been trusted by the administrators regarding the discussions here.

I am not asking for the admin rights because I want the admin rights and simply enjoy being one, but I'm asking them for blocks and some more helpings. After having an experience in editing area for more than a few months now, I've learned that I could do more than just blocking and I need a chance to prove myself worthy of it.

I believe this is the right time for me to apply for admin. And I will say it, if I prove to not be a good administrator, I will accept the removal of rights without voting.

I understand most of the things about administrator, content moderator and a discussions moderator and rollback as well. The wiki has two very important sides. A content area and a discussions area. A content moderator is someone who has the rights to delete/lock pages on the wiki side only. A discussions moderator is someone who has the rights to delete/lock posts and undelete/unlock rights on the discussions side only. The mutual rights between both roles is deleting and editing articles comments. An administrator has the privilege of both moderator classes with a few extra rights like blocking, changing wiki theme, editing css, editing wiki navigation and making categories. We discussions moderators are provided with the admin dashboard of this wiki, although we can only use a few tools from there.

I have said this before and will repeat again, I've been working hard on the discussions to make it good. I've suggested the existing categories there, and the rules that everyone sees now. I can take actions very quickly since I've been a very active discussions moderator on the discussion.

Although I've written everything about why I'm applying for the adminship, I'd like to clear up some queries regarding myself. I'm not some random person who popped up in the forum and asked for the adminship. I was appointed as a discussions moderator on November 13, 2017 and was trusted with the rights. I never misused my rights and have been helping the wiki discussions out with all I can do.

About the trust, I've been trusted by our veteran administrator Energy X regarding the moderator rights on here, not to mention the administrator rights on this wiki's discord server.
Please do not think that a Discussions Mod is incapable of handling the admin rights. I'm never interested in any additional rights, but I have to ask for them when I feel I need to help the place out by regulating the spams or vandals.
I need the tools which both the content moderator and discussions moderator individually lack. The blocking permissions. I happen to be a really mature user when it comes to using the tools and I never misuse them.
I believe I'm capable of the tools, but even if there is a voting for an administrator, I'll let the whole community decide it.

Support

Support Support: If we are to take into account the Discussions, I support and, as AS has stated, he could block nuisance trolls. Ellis99 Volcanion 11:16, May 2, 2020 (UTC)
Support Support: I agree with this as he stated. He could help with ban/blocking users like trolls spammers nonsense Vandals and any users or user who violates the rules and so on if our other mods are busy to help them detail reports and take necessary actions only if necessary to block or ban them..Trainer Micah (talk) 14:49, May 2, 2020 (UTC)
Support Support: I believe Alan Sycamore would prove out himself to be one of the best administrators of the wiki. Oppose Oppose: While you have been active and contributed a lot. I don't see enough yet to already be promoted to Administrator. If you keep it up, I would be supportive in the future. Misch60 (talk) 10:55, May 3, 2020 (UTC)

Comments

Comment Comment: If I were you, I would apply for Content Moderator rights. First, let this go through, then apply for the Content Moderator rights. Ellis99 Volcanion 09:12, May 2, 2020 (UTC)
Comment Comment: I would like to remind the users of the voting requirement we have. Two of those points are: You must have over 100 mainspace edits. and You must not have a ban history on the wiki. Which unfortunately means that Victory Kiddo, PJ2Dialga, RISHIDEEP 92264, Arghya Chowdhury and Ellis99 don't meet those requirements. I know Ellis99 has voted in the past while he has a ban history, so there may be an exception but he has been blocked not too long ago, and that this concerns the Discussions mostly as well. However, the requirements have not changed at this moment of time which means that the votes for at least Victory Kiddo, PJ2Dialga, RISHIDEEP 92264, Arghya Chowdhury don't count unfortunately because they don't meet one or more points of the requirements. AND don't forget to sign your message by using ~~~~.--Lordranged7 (talk) 11:33, May 3, 2020 (UTC)
Comment Comment: I understand what you are saying, Lord. Please feel free to remove their supports. But not for Ellis99, since they were blocked for a day only and they are a regular trusted contributor of this wiki. I hope, you understand and consider it. Alan Sycamore! (talk) 13:21, May 3, 2020 (UTC)
I have removed them and left Ellis for now. Unfortunately, Lance Faulkner doesn't meet the requirements as well to vote, so I removed his as well. They can vote, of course, when they do meet the requirements.--Lordranged7 (talk) 13:55, May 3, 2020 (UTC)
This would need to be discussed before implementing this change: but I propose removing the "no ban history" requirement for voting altogether. It doesn't affect anything, anyone who's going to vote with a ban history is not going to suddenly have their vote swayed towards one side or biased just because of it, it'll just prevent people like in this case who should still be perfectly eligible to vote from voting, and the lack of an asterisk next to it makes it ambiguous as if there's no exception to it.
