Pokémon Scarlet (ポケットモンスター スカーレット, Poketto Monsutaa Sukaaretto, Pocket Monsters Scarlet) and Pokémon Violet (ポケットモンスター バイオレット, Poketto Monsutaa Baioretto, Pocket Monsters Violet) are the first pair of games of Generation IX. They take place in a Iberian Peninsula-inspired region. The Starter Pokémon of the region are: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

  • These are the first Pokémon games to be fully open world, and players can play their stories without restricted to a structured plot.
  • Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the first Pokémon games to:
    • Have the protagonist players wear different colored clothing depending on which version is chosen.
    • Have the protagonist players wear the same outfits for both characters.
    • Have version exclusive professors, they being Professor Sada and Professor Turo.
    • Have professors not named after plant or trees.
    • Have outdoor Pokémon Centers rather than indoor from the past games.
    • Have different art styles and textures on characters and Pokémon’s compared to past Pokémon mainline games.
  • The titles of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are similar to several Japanese trademarks registered by Nintendo, Creatures Inc., and Game Freak in 2008 and 2009. The Chinese titles use the same characters as two of the trademarks.
