Not to be confused with Pokémon Ranger, a type of Trainer class featured in the core series.
Not to be confused with Pokémon Trainers in general.

A Pokémon Ranger is a type of job featured in the Pokémon Ranger series.

Description[]

Pokémon Rangers are a specialized type of police that ensure law and order in the Fiore, Almia, and Oblivia regions. To do this, they catch wild Pokémon for a short time using a Capture Styler and use them to harm enemies or remove obstacles. After being assisted, a Pokémon Ranger releases the Pokémon again; for this reason, Pokémon Rangers are not a Trainer class, let alone a Pokémon Trainer. However, some Pokémon Rangers have a partner that choose to join them and are not necessary for them to release back into the wild.

Appearances[]

Pokémon Ranger series[]

Pokémon Rangers first appear in the titular game, Pokémon Ranger. They are stationed in various Ranger Bases around Fiore, monitoring and protecting certain areas, and such Pokémon Rangers are titled Area Rangers. They report to the higher ranked Top Rangers, who assign missions and introduce Pokémon Rangers to their profession. Every aspiring Pokémon Ranger has to pass a test before they even receive a Capture Styler, although the player receives one earlier.

In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, set in Almia, it is shown that Student Rangers attend Ranger School, which they have to graduate before they can become a Pokémon Ranger. There is also the Ranger Union, led by Erma, and it is the location where the rangers' activities are directed from in both the Fiore and Almia regions, as well as rank promotions. If a Pokémon Ranger does their job well enough, their Ranger Rank increases, and they can use the Fine Styler. The player is promoted to a Top Ranger.

Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, set in Oblivia, has Rand as the only other Pokémon Ranger besides Ben and Summer.

Anime[]

Only a few Pokémon Rangers appear in Pokémon the Series. The first of them is Solana, who appears in "The Green Guardian" to help an injured Celebi, and later in "Pokémon Ranger—Deoxys' Crisis! Part 1" and "Pokémon Ranger—Deoxys' Crisis! Part 2" to stop a Deoxys from interfering with the environment.

The next Pokémon Ranger to appear is Kellyn, who joins Solana in protecting Aura Sphere Riolu from J in "Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Part 1" and "Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Part 2".

Another Pokémon Ranger who appears is Ben, who tries to stop a Heatran from endangering the surrounding area in "Pokémon Ranger: Heatran Rescue!".

Jack Walker, one of the protagonists of Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, is the only Pokémon Ranger who appears in the anime but not in the Pokémon Ranger series. His role is to protect the Manaphy Egg.
