Pokémon Journeys: The Series, int. PJ, known as Pocket Monsters (Japanese: ポケットモンスター, Hepburn: Poketto Monsutaa) in Japan, int. PM('19), and Pocket Monsters W (Hangul: 포켓몬스터 W, Revised Romanization: Poket Monseuteo W) in South Korea, int. W, is the eighth part of Pokémon the Series. It features the all regions from the main-series games, up to the date of premiering. The series shares its Japanese name with the original Japanese series when the anime first premiered in April 1997. A new art style was implemented for the fourth series in a row.
This new series focuses on the two protagonists Ash Ketchum and Goh, along with their partners Pikachu and Cinderace. It also features a young girl named Chloe, who has an Eevee, and her father, Professor Cerise, who runs a laboratory in Vermilion City. It features all the regions that have appeared in the Pokémon games, from Kanto to Galar. Pokémon from each region also appear. The series first premiered on November 17, 2019 in Japan on TV Tokyo.
Pokémon Journeys features the return of several characters that have appeared over the course of the anime, from main characters (like Brock, Dawn, and Serena for example) to some recurring characters (like Gary Oak, Korrina, Butch, and Cassidy, among others), far more than any of the previous series. In addition to this, Pokémon Journeys concludes several storylines created over the years within the anime, such as the story of Mohn, Butch and Cassidy's rivalry with Jessie and James, and Ash's story with Cynthia.

Trivia[]
- The design of the Japanese logo of the series is shared with "I Choose You!" and "The Power of Us", which were set in an alternate continuity to the main series.
- This makes it the first series logo to not have any shade of green, being completely blue instead. It is also the first one without any 3D perspective, having a flat design.
- The series, so far, has the most recap episodes out of all eight series, amounting to four.
- Currently, this is the only series to have a major male companion instead of a female companion.
- This is also the first series:
- To be set in more than two game-original regions.
- Where Ash's outfit is not identical to the male player character's outfit since Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire.
- To not be entirely based around the corresponding generation of games.
- To not feature the words: "The Series" during the opening animation of English dub of the Pokémon anime, unlike previous series.
- Where Ash and Pikachu only have a male traveling companion.
- Where Chloe now goes with a male companion after she catches an Eevee.
- Where none of Ash's companions are Gym Leaders/Trial Captains.
- To have a First partner Pokémon evolve in less than 20 episodes since its capture.
- Since Advanced Generation in the original version (and The Beginning in the dub) not to be named after the corresponding games of the generation.
- To have its broadcast interrupted since Pokémon the Series: The Beginning (in this case, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic).
- To broadcast episodes #23 thru #29 outside of April 26, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan after rerun episodes #1 thru #6.
- To release movie #23 outside of July 10, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan.
- To have the English dub's Who's That Pokémon? segments directly translated and dubbed from those of the Japanese version, instead of using separate segments, and when Pikachu says: "Pika?" during identifying each Pokémon, the Pokémon says its name, and Pikachu says: "Pika, Pika!" instead of featuring the people saying "It's (Pokémon's name)!" during identifying each Pokémon.
- To to be focused on the word "Journey" instead of featuring the lyric "Pokémon" in the first English opening song during Pokémon Journeys, but the lyric "Pokémon" can be heard again in the second English opening song during Pokémon Master Journeys.
- To have the English dub recorded between New York and California. This is because voice director Lisa Ortiz moved to California.
- Also, to be dubbed by Iyuno-SDI Group instead of DuArt Film & Video.
- To be the first series in the anime to be streamed in the United States on Netflix, instead of aired on a traditional television.
- When the English narrator says: "As the journey continues" at the end of each episode of the English dub of the Pokémon anime instead of featuring the "To Be Continued" text at the end of each episode (Japanese and other regional TV broadcasts still include the "To Be Continued" at the end.) On Pokémon YouTube Channel, and Pokémon TV app, Episodes 1 through 5 has the "To Be Continued" text at the end.
- In which Team Rocket owns a Pokédex
- In addition they only use borrowed Pokémon, instead of catching and using their own.
- To feature an episode where Ash and Pikachu are completely absent.
- The heroes Ash, Pikachu, and Goh are absent in some episodes divided into any first and second parts, unlike the six previous series.
- After Goh's Pokémon, Cinderace, fully evolved, it is absent in some episodes.
- Ash catches Pokémon from previous generations since Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl, a Ghost-type Pokémon, a Baby Pokémon, a Regional form and Fossil Pokémon.
- In which also the first Pokémon Ash caught was fully-evolved, was from a previous generation, was not introduced in the current generation, was not caught from a brand new region, and was a pseudo-legendary Pokémon.
- In which a main character catches a Legendary Pokémon.
- In which a main character other than Ash catches more than one starter Pokémon of the current generation.
- In which two protagonists catch the same Pokémon, with both Ash and Goh each catching a Farfetch'd, though Goh catches the Kantonian form, while Ash catches the Galarian form.
- Ash competing in a new Pokémon Competition as his main goal instead of competing in a Pokémon League Conference.
- In which some episodes have a duration of 11 minutes in 2 parts since "Lights! Camera! Pika!/How to Make a Pikachu Movie: Ready… Action! Lightning Fast! Brave and Strong! Super-Pikachu!/The Very Best of Super-Pikachu's Back-Slapping Bloopers!" from "Pokémon the Series: XY Kalos Quest" where it was presented in 4 parts.
- This is the second series that Ash didn't battle Gym Leaders for Gym Badges.
- This is the first series that Ash didn't capture any of the First partner Pokémon from the concurrent Generation.
- In which Ash reunites with his traveling companions from more than one previous series.
- This series features the most of Ash's former traveling companions from previous series out of any series, with sixteen.
- To be dubbed in the Bengali language. [22]
- This is the shortest completed series of the anime franchise, with 136 episodes.
- Frankly in addition to the 4-episode Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles and the upcoming 11-episode Pocket Monsters: Aim to Be a Pokémon Master series, this brings the full episode count of the entire Journeys series to 151, which is a reference to the original 151 Pokémon of Generation I emphasized in the Indigo Pokémon League arc of the original series.
- As of March 2024, Both this and Master will leave Netflix for Horizons: the series. [21] https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/leaving-soon/two-pokemon-series-leaving-netflix-ahead-of-horizons-release/
Dub edits[]
- In the original Japanese version, the footage used for the title card background is of Pikachu hopping over to the right side of the screen, while the episode's title pops out of the Poké Ball. In the dub, the title card background is taken from that of the title cards in the next episode preview segment, which has Pikachu on the left side of the screen.
- In the English dub and dubs that originate from it, e.g. French, German, Italian etc., remove the text that shows where Ash and Goh travel to.
