Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are Generation IV's remakes of the original Generation II games, Pokémon Gold and Silver. Nintendo announced that the games are slated for a 2009 Fall release in Japan.

It is expected that these remakes will incorporate the many advancements that the series has undergone since Generation II, much like FireRed and LeafGreen to Red and Green. There is still no information considering the release of these games outside of Japan.

  • There is a new female character replacing [[Kris]].
  • New artwork by Ken Sugimori for the Generation II Pokémon.
  • An event that is activated in Ilex Forest by the special Pikachu coloured Pichu, received in Japan by pre-ordering a ticket for the 12th movie.
  • Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile following the player, revealing that the player's starter Pokémon will follow them much like Pokémon Yellow's Pikachu. But know any pokemon can follow you from Bulbasaur to Arceus.
  • Kyogre will be available for capture in HeartGold and Groudon will be available for capture in SoulSilver and when both are transferred on one game, they unlock Rayquaza for capture.
  • Many pictures show that you one of the Pokemon in your party will follow you around if you choose to let it follow it around. This aspect of the game seems to be related to Pokemon Yellow in which your Pikachu will follow you around.
  • It is revealed that you are once again allowed to explore Kanto, although it is uncertain if Red is available as well.
