Pokémon: Black & White is the fourteenth season of Pokémon the Series, and the first season of Pokémon the Series: Black & White. It features Ash Ketchum and his friends Iris and Cilan's adventure through Unova from Nuvema Town to Nimbasa City.

Synopsis[]

A new land, new rivals, new challenges, and all-new Pokémon make the 14th season of the Pokémon animated series one of the most exciting ones yet! When Ash and his mother accompany Professor Oak to the distant Unova region, Ash discovers Pokémon that he's never seen before… and that he can't wait to catch! He may have Pikachu at his side together with new friends Iris and Cilan, but he'll still need plenty of new Pokémon on his team if he wants to challenge Unova's expert Gym Leaders. His quest to become a Pokémon Master just got even tougher![1]

As Ash and Iris continue toward Striaton City, they once again run into Oshawott, who officially joins Ash's Pokémon team! Along the road, they stumble into a deep hole and are rescued by a boy named Dan. He takes them to his family's resort hotel, where they discover that the hotel's famous hot sand spa has been destroyed by several similar holes.

As Ash and Iris continue toward Striaton City for Ash's first Unova Gym battle, Iris tells Ash about the Pokémon Battle Club, a place where Trainers can battle each other to develop their skills. But after Ash accepts a challenge from a Trainer there, the Battle Club is suddenly closed down. It appears that someone—or something—has broken into the storage room where the food is kept! Based on the blurry image on the security tape, Ash thinks the culprit might be an Umbreon (a Pokémon that isn't native to Unova). But when Ash puts some Pokémon food out to lure it, he and Iris are surprised to discover it's really a dirty, skinny Tepig, trying to scrounge for dinner.

Now accompanied by Cilan and Iris, Ash is headed toward Nacrene City and his second Gym battle. On their way, the three Trainers come across a wild Snivy. Of course, Ash’s first reaction is to catch this intelligent and speedy Pokémon, but the wily Snivy doesn’t give up easily, ensnaring most of Ash’s team with a devastating Attract move. After Pikachu, Oshawott, and Tepig all fall prey to Snivy’s charms, Ash enlists the aid of his Pidove, who turns out to be a girl—and thus immune to Snivy’s Attract! Finally, after some intense battling, the weary Snivy finally stays in its Poké Ball, and Ash has his fourth Unova region Pokémon!

After arriving in Nacrene City and discovering that the Nacrene Gym is inside the city museum, our heroes meet a very scared man: Hawes, the museum’s co-curator. He claims to have seen ghostlike apparitions recently, just as the museum is about to launch its Secret Artifact Exhibition. The gang listens to the details of what has been happening, and Iris decides that an “angry spirit” is putting a curse on the museum. Cilan disagrees—he says that there must be a scientific explanation for everything.

Inside, they find a shop where a Pokémon Connoisseur is checking the compatibility between Trainers and Pokémon. Ash lines up to be evaluated as well, but just as he’s getting impatient with the wait, another shopkeeper invites him over. The proprietor is a girl named Burgundy, who insists that she’s a Connoisseur, too. But Ash gets suspicious when Burgundy says he should get rid of all his Pokémon because he isn’t compatible with any of them—even his best buddy Pikachu!

Bianca challenges Iris to a battle! Iris’s new companion Emolga quickly neutralizes Bianca’s Pignite with its powerful Attract, forcing Bianca to send out Minccino. Iris and Bianca try to restart their battle, but Emolga isn’t interested and keeps using Volt Switch to get away.

Druddigon looks dangerous, but Iris isn’t afraid—she reminds everyone that she grew up in a village where people and Dragon-type Pokémon live together as friends. Emmy confesses to Iris that she’s a brand-new Trainer, and asks if Iris can teach her more about Dragon types. Iris suggests that Emmy and Druddigon have a battle, and of course, Ash volunteers to be their opponent!

Cilan explains that this is pretty unusual, because it’s the time of year when large groups of Cottonee visit the nearby Rainbow Valley to pair up and ride away on the Diamond Breeze. It turns out that this Cottonee wandered away from its group to pursue a prospective partner, but was rebuffed!

Late one night, Ash and his pals are awakened by a UFO! The next day they stop at a café to discuss the sighting. Some townspeople there tell a story of a friend who had a vision of outer space. The townspeople had visited Professor Icarus, who lives over the mountain, to ask him about the event. Very little is known about this professor (a UFO specialist), but when the townspeople confronted him in the past, they all experienced severe head pain. Cilan is a huge fan of the professor and his work, so he decides they need to go to the professor’s laboratory themselves to get to the bottom of the mystery. While crossing a bridge on the way, everyone in the group has another vision—a premonition of danger.

During playtime, Scraggy encounters a group of Foongus and—as usual—greets them with a headbutt. The angry Foongus respond by shooting poison spores at our heroes’ Pokémon, making Pikachu and the others ill!

Ash and friends meet a Trainer named Georgia, who’s obsessed with defeating Dragon-type Pokémon. This “Dragon Buster” challenges Iris to a battle, and her Beartic quickly beats Iris’s Axew. Georgia demands to fight against Iris’s other Dragon-type Pokémon, but of course Axew is the only one. Iris sends out Excadrill instead, and at first it actually seems willing to fight...but a Rock Smash from Beartic quickly sends the stubborn Pokémon back into hiding.

While our heroes are having lunch, a Roggenrola comes crashing down on them, ruining their feast! Ash decides he wants to catch it, so he makes a couple of attempts with Tepig and Oshawott. The Pokémon are unsuccessful, and they end up needing to visit a Pokémon Center. All this time, the Roggenrola seems to be urgently trying to tell them something. However, in a hurry, our heroes ignore the Roggenrola and leave it behind.

Lost in a thick fog, Ash and his friends come across a wandering Audino who appears to be in a trance. Suddenly, they are stopped by Officer Jenny and two young detectives, Christie and Doyle, who accuse them of having something to do with the recent disappearance of several Audino. A background check reveals their innocence, and when Officer Jenny tells our heroes what’s been happening, they offer to help.

Our heroes have just seen the trailer for a new movie they all want to see, when the main character for the movie unexpectedly appears! It turns out the character is actually a Zorua, who has been working with a budding young filmmaker named Luke. Because Zorua can look like any person or Pokémon it wants, it has been playing all the roles in Luke’s movie. But this Zorua is a girl, and the idea of playing the male characters is not appealing. That’s when our heroes volunteer to take over the rest of the roles, and so the shooting begins!

Our heroes think they’ve finally arrived in Nimbasa City, but their new friend Luke informs them that they’re actually in Nimbasa Town, home of the Pokémon Battle Tournament. As the Nimbasa Battle Tournament rages on, Cilan is up against Trip, who once defeated Cilan’s brother Chili at the Striaton City Gym. Burgundy, Cilan’s rival, wants him to lose in the worst way, and Trip and his Gurdurr battle with power and excellent timing. But Cilan prevails, delivering a tasty smackdown. Wrapping up the first-round battles, Stephan’s Zebstrika makes short work of Bianca’s Minccino, and Luke and Iris both win their matches. Then it’s on to round two!

The battling is fierce, and it appears Golett will be victorious, keeping Axew on the run from its powerful attacks. But the tables turn when Axew learns the powerful Dragon-type move Outrage, and it battles back with a vengeance to defeat Golett!

As Meowth and our heroes arrive in Nimbasa City, Jessie and James prepare to unleash a sinister plot under the guidance of Dr. Zager. At the remarkable Nimbasa City Pokémon Center, Meowth tells Ash, Iris, and Cilan about the local specialty, a soothing Pokémon massage, and convinces them to send all of their Pokémon into the secure Pokémon Center Vault for the treatment. Meowth then makes an excuse to stay behind while our heroes head off to explore—giving him a chance to contact Dr. Zager. It turns out Meowth is still working with Team Rocket, and his apparent change of heart when he joined our heroes was nothing but a ruse!

Team Rocket’s sinister plot to steal all the Poké Balls from the Nimbasa City Pokémon Center continues at a frenetic pace, and our heroes, along with Subway Bosses Ingo and Emmet, are in hot pursuit! They chase down one decoy after another, until Cilan figures out that the real Ghost Train must be heading for the rail yard in Anville Town.
