Poffins (ポフィン) are a type of item introduced in Generation IV.

Description

Poffins are a special type of Pokémon food. Its name is a portmanteau of "Pokémon" and "muffin," though despite this, its appearance looks nothing like a muffin, but rather a bun or a cookie instead.

Poffins are used similarly to Pokéblocks, their predecessors in Generation III. They can either raise the Beauty, Tough, Cool, Smart, or Cute conditions of a Pokémon in a Pokémon Contest when fed. Poffins are also created from Berries, also determining its flavor.

Pokémon have particular tastes and favor different flavored Poffins dependent on their Nature.

While creating Poffins, one has to be careful of it overflowing or burning because this worsens the Poffin's flavor and the Pokémon may dislike it. The faster the Poffin is created, the more flavor it has, and the Poffin could even become a Mild Poffin.

Poffin levels can be found with this formula:

B is the base level

Core series

In Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version, Poffins can be obtained only by creating them at the Poffin House in Hearthome City. However, the player has to first obtain the Poffin Case from the Pokémon fan club chairman, also in Hearthome City, before they can start creating Poffins. The player can also obtain a Mild Poffin from Jordan in front of the counter at the Super Contest Hall.

In Pokémon Platinum Version, some Poffins can be bought in the basement of the Veilstone Department Store in Veilstone City. In all three games, two to four players can connect to create Poffins wirelessly.

Anime

Poffins first appear in Pokémon the Series during "Oh Do You Know the Poffin Plan!". During this episode, Dawn convinces both Ash and Brock to take a Poffin cooking class. Dawn showed great promise, recounting past experiences cooking Poffins with her mother, however it took her practice before finally developing good-quality Poffins. Brock was also naturally the better of the group on the first try, however Ash was unsuccessful. From this point onward in the anime, Dawn can be seen occasionally making and giving her Poffins to her Pokémon as a treat. Both Dawn's Pachirisu and Swinub are especially fond of them which may lead one to suggest that their Nature is one that enjoys sweet flavors.

In Giratina & the Sky Warrior, a Shaymin also likes the poffin of what Dawn made, and after she ate it twice it causes to blow up the smoke on Ash's head known as Seed Flare.

Pokémon GO

Poffins can be bought in the shop for 100 PokéCoins. The player can use them by playing with their buddy or clicking on quick treat, then on berries, and feeding it to their buddy.
